In my six years at Simply You, I have never seen a bad Trelise Cooper show and this year was no exception. Delivering close to 100 looks, Trelise sent dreamy Titanic-inspired silhouettes down the runway with seriously cinched waists and three-quarter ruffled hems. The only real problem I have with this collection is how exactly I'm going to pay for it. Hmmm. TREND TO WATCH: Early 20th Century suiting. BEST IN SHOW: Navy and cream ruffles. A positively dreamy combination. NOT SO HOT: The state of my bank balance once I place my winter order. POINT OF DIFFERENCE: No gimmicks are required when garments command centre stage. BEST ACCESSORY: The multi-layered beaded necklaces. ON MY SHOPPING LIST: A full painterly printed skirt and matching purple puff-sleeve blouse. Delicious. STORY: Many of New Zealand's crème de la crème and emerging fashion designers are showing their collections at Air New Zealand Fashion Week. Her "Cooper Lifestyle" collection was inspired by a trip to Tokyo for the Blossom Festival. Expert Eye: Stolen Girlfriends Club - Marc Moore Stolen Girlfriends Club has a cult following among Auckland's young urban hipster set, with their take on low-fi "take the piss" cool. Many have already compared them to Ksubi, the Australian brand which describes itself as a "collective" rather than a label. I can see the similarity. I could also see plenty of similarities to other labels in the collection they debuted last night at the DHL dispatch warehouse. Ripped stockings: Rodarte. Wool beanies: Burberry. Grungy oversized shirts and a general sense of post punk: Alexander Wang. Tight dresses and animal print: Balmain. But will their fans, who are almost as cultish as Trelise Cooper's band of followers (just at the other end of the fashion scale), care? Definitely not. Because regardless of some of the similarities to other international labels, SGC's blend of sexy and street has filled a niche in the local fashion market, especially in Auckland where nearly every person under the age of 20 owns something from the brand (they're usually mates with the team too).
