An autistic adult speaks for himself, part one Professionals, gather around and hear what an actual autistic adult thinks of the manner in which the autistic are being treated in society. Yes, it is our world, too. Curebie parents, prepare for a grisly preview of what your children will become when they hit adulthood unless you get your head out of your colon now. Good portrayals of the autistic, Volume 01 Sometimes, it is hard to recognise that something is incredibly bad unless you have been provided with an example of what is good. In that spirit, I present the first in a series of videos that explains the best portrayals of people on the autistic spectrum (especially if you are not the passive, lay down and die type) occur entirely by accident. There are no less than seven characters shown in Blade Runner that resemble people on the autistic spectrum, and they are not necessarily who one might think. Not bad for a film that recently celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. Tags: autism civil rights anti-curebie |

A year on... what has changed? This is a video that follows up on An Adult On The Autistic Spectrum Speaks For Himself. The same featured adult talks about what he sees as one of the virtues of autism, how he responds to questions from parental units, and other such stuff. Do you know what it is like to BE an autistic child? Yet another idiot pretending to grok our best interests, you know, the ones that we are only made aware of having by them, asked me if I know what it is like to be the parent of an autistic child. Wrong question. With parents making videos in which they describe their children as having no feelings or being alien simply because of differences in communicative methods, the question really ought to be "are you monsters aware of how much pain you bring into your autistic child's life?". An autistic adult speaks for himself, part two "Don't do anything about it, it will not have any lasting effect..." Ever hear those words come out of a teacher's mouth? Well, here is a video that shows abuse from a teacher can have a very lasting and powerful effect. The subject in this video (me) might not remember birthdays, funerals, or even some relatives, but he remembers the name of the teacher he is talking about, and has sworn an oath on that teachers life in public on many occasions. Exceptionally bad portrayals of the autistic, episode 01 Did you know that there are people on the autistic spectrum who go to university, earn PhD.s, and give lectures? Apparently, director John Boorman, and writers William Goodhart and Rospo Pallenberg did not. Tags: Autism civil rights anti-curebie |

An autistic adult speaks for himself, finale Most of the time, when real charities like Diabetes Australia solicit money to research a cure, they have the full support of every individual with diabetes, often in more countries than they are advertising in. Yet Autism Speaks and Cure Autism Now are almost universally hated by the individuals who live with the condition they are seeking a cure for. This video finishes the sequence by stating the director's reasons why he says "cure me and I will kill you". (Please excuse the lighting, it was an early project.) Tags: autism rights anti-curebie |

A tribute to Harpo Marx Harpo Marx remains the most widely-known silent comedian. Able to say more with a few quick gestures than morons like Chris Rock can say in a half-hour speech, Harpo almost never spoke on film. One thing that keeps me awake at night with some frequency is the question of what great artists or thinkers of years gone by would think of the world we live in now. Considering the manner in which children on the autistic spectrum are being treated, my guess is that Harpo, and probably his brothers too, would not think much of us. Users of the "You don't know what it is like to be the parent of an autistic child" defence, listen to this quote from a recent chat that says it all: "I tell them that Harpo Marx didn't either, but he knew what it was like to be set apart from the rest of a society, abused without actual cause, and marked for total destruction by a powerful entity, so I submit he knew more about what it was like to be an autistic child than any autistic child's parents ever will". Is that enough of a spoonfeeding for you to get the conclusion? Tags: autism civil rights anti-curebie |

MY reaction to diagnosis They say that variety is the spice of life, and nowhere is this more true than in perusing the hundred different answers you will get when you ask a hundred people on the autistic spectrum a question. This is a quick video I shot in response to questions about my feelings about being diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum. As always, the answer itself is not necessarily very pretty, but it would improve the world a bit if those employed in a professional capacity paid some attention to it. Autism Speaks: shut the *!@& up! A very simple message to a charity run by people so moronic they cannot understand when their actions are not appreciated by the people they claim to be representing. Or why. Very occasional coarse language is used in order to highlight the fact that in a just, well-run world, I would not have to be putting out this message to begin with. Exceptionally bad portrayals of the autistic, episode 02 Josh Hartnett can protest to his heart's content that Mozart And The Whale was treated like a hot potato by the studios because they did not understand the subject. The more likely reality is that people who understand the subject better than he does would have come out in force to scuttle the film's chances of turning a profit. For it is one of the most exaggeration-ridden portrayals of autistic characters ever committed to film, and it is as deep as a puddle to boot. Film stars and studios alike should realise by now that to participate in a film based on a Ronald Bass script is to make a pact with the devil, so to speak. A note for defenders: Do not bother trying to tell me this film was based on real people. I know already. I have had online conversations with one of them, and if I were given a choice between letting him speak for me to a government that is about to decide whether or not to give Autism Speaks the time of day or going to prison for the rest of my life for gutting him and parading his corpse around in front of said government, I would pick the latter. This is because in his manner of conversation, he makes it abundantly clear that he thinks his is the only kind of autistic individual that deserves to be spoken for. He is a coward and a creep of the highest order. Tags: autism civil rights anti-curebie education anti-ignorance |

aspie182 to world: I am not dead yet Having recently purchased an iMac in the hopes of addressing some shortcomings in the process of making videos, I slapped together this little announcement in a matter of a few hours. More of a test for the new software and equipment, this video does effectively demonstrate one major problem I have. I cannot think up things to say on the spot for love or money. A very frustrating thing, and a major contrast to how I used to speak when I lived in urban centres and, while still unrecognised, at least received an appropriate amount of sensory stimulation to my needs. Yes, that was a hint for certain people who might be watching. Anyway, if this turns out well I will produce more videos using this new computer. A rebuttal to a curebie It seems that in the mind of a curebie, there is no distinction between autistic and retarded, even when they are in direct communication with an autistic adult. Nor, it seems is there a distinction between protesting the disemination of medical information that is false to the extent of being potentially lethal, and the incoherent protests of a distressed child. This is about as polite as I get when trying to educate someone about the difference. Tags: autism rights anti-curebie |

AutTV: An Aspie Explains His Creative Hobbies, Part 3 Many people who have never completed a novel-length manuscript before think it is an easy process. Given that the average manuscript is around 100,000 words in length, and is usually rewritten at least twice before submission to an agent, the question of how one can do this without dedication, irrespective of its source, is begged. Exceptionally bad portrayals of the autistic, episode 03 Rain Man. Say those two words among real people who are autistic yet do not scream and cry if you break wind in their general direction. You will get some very memorable, intense, and possibly downright dangerous reactions. Ronald Bass is easily the single most hated man among the autistic. If his more recent effort to confuse the distinction between autistic and retarded did not clarify the reason, then this specially designed video will leave no room for ignorance. The effort Bass went to in his screenplay to make one of evolution's most complex questions seem a simple matter of disability is mind-boggling. Those of us kept in the dark for not being low-functioning enough have every reason in the world to desire Bass' body thrust upon a fifty foot spike. If this video fails to make you understand why, maybe it is YOU who should be segregated from the rest of the world. Tags: autism civil rights anti-curebie autistic human |

An Aspie Explains His Creative Hobbies, Part 4 The first video shot by Aspie182 in High Defintion Video, this is an explanation about why one would go to the trouble of shooting in high definition. The video was originally in 1920 x 1080I, but the limitations of YouTube (and the Internet in general) obviously make it impossible to distribute the video in that format. Hopefully this will change in the years to come as HD becomes more widespread, but it is like Heinlein said, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch. That aside, the ability to record in HD promises many great things for the future. Watch this space. Tags: autism civil rights anti-curebie autistic human |

The Worst Of John Best John Best, for those who are not already aware, is a pathological liar and coward who cannot open his mouth without slandering the neurodiversity movement or autistics in general. That he does it at all is bad enough, but that he claims he is doing it for the benefit of a son that he is chelating instead of getting appropriate help for makes it all the worse. This is a small series of real statements that Best has made on the web, along with some of my personal comments and responses. I chose a certain scene as an introduction because Brian Cox does a brilliant John Best impersonation without anyone on the set, including himself, being aware of it. aspie182 recommends Stranger In A Strange Land People seem to think they can gain any kind of understanding into the lives and feelings of persons on the autistic spectrum by reading books, as opposed to direct communication with people on the spectrum. This may, in fact, be true, but not in the way that these people think. Just as films that portray the autistic accurately do so by accident, such is also generally the case in literature. By far one of the best novels to create a character that may have anything in common with individuals on the autistic spectrum is one of Robert Heinlein's four Hugo award winners, Stranger In A Strange Land. Through the use of speech and video, I try to give some idea of why this is. Of course, you will have to pardon my inability to speak a whole sentence without fumbling for the next word, but my cognition continues to deteriorate in my present living situation. This is the second video I have composed, edited, and of course shot on my new iMac. Mac users out there are welcome to provide suggestions regarding how to get better results. Anyone else can and will piss off. Tags: autism civil-rights anti-curebie personal perspective literature heinlein |

AutTV: An Aspie Explains His Creative Hobbies, Part 2 An Aspie who changes DVD burners about once a year (this is called frequent upgrading) talks about why he goes through more recordable discs in a month than most people he knows go through in a year. This was made while in a bit of a mood swing, as is evidenced by the frequent shift in emphasis with the narration. Also illustrates the severe economic cost that personal electronics companies would experience in the face of an autism cure. Tags: autism rights anti-curebie |

Things autistic people would like to say to Autism Speaks This is more of an experiment than anything else, and limited in length by the fact that trying to combine footage from multiple films with a consistent volume on an IBM PC is like trying to build a tank out of Play-Doh. The concept started as the result of observing one reaction to a three-second snippet of footage from the Cheech & Chong film Up In Smoke. What if I were to take every piece of film footage that I could find in which a person says something that I would like to say to Suzanne Wright's face, throw them in a blender, and stir? The first essay in such a craft is what you are basically looking at. Oh yeah, and this video does contain profanities, so do not say I did not warn you. If you enjoyed this rough version, check out the new cut that was created using better hardware/software combinations at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DruXJxMqLTA ... Now with even more quotes in which a film character says something that Bob and Suzanne Wright go out of their way to shield themselves from hearing from the same people they claim to represent!
