Arrests at U.S. Capitol in Antiwar Protest Thirty-three antiwar protesters were arrested on Capitol Hill late this afternoon. They brought traffic to a complete halt at the intersections of New Jersey and Independence Avenues for nearly an hour. The Longworth and Cannon House Office buildings are also located there. The demonstrators refused to disperse from a sit down in the middle of the street. Under a huge blue banner that read, "Not one More Mothers Child," they defied the police order to disperse. They held high an American flag as the police moved in for the arrests. Led by Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, they shouted out: "Arrest George Bush! Arrest Dick Cheney!" At noon, the protesters had held a rally at Lafayette Park, opposite the White House, to launch the "SWARM on Congress" campaign." See, http://www.democracyrising.us/ for details. They then marched to Capitol Hill where the arrests took place. Tags: iraqi War Protest Activism Arrests Capitol Hill Cindy Sheehan Gold Star Families for Peace Code Pink William Hughes |

Adam Kokesh, Tina Richards Arrested for Defying Poster Ban On September 6, 2007, Adam Kokesh (IVAW) and Tina Richards (Grassroots America) were arrested in Washington, D.C. for defying a federal government ban on posting promotional material for the September 15th Antiwar Rally, to be held in this city. The rally is sponsored by the ANSWER coalition. The arrests took place at the corner of H. St. and Jackson Place NW, near Lafayette Park, just north of the White House. Mr. Kokesh is the co-chair elect of the Iraq Veterans Against the War. Marine Mom Richards is the CEO of Grassroots America. The activists placed promotional posters on a traffic box, which supposedly falls under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Interior and the National Parks Service. Recently, the District of Columbia government imposed draconian fines on the ANSWER coalition for placing political literature around town. As a result, the ANSWER coalition has filed a lawsuit in Federal Court challenging the Constitutionality of the local government's action. For more background on this important First Amendment issue, go to: http://answer.pephost.org/site/PageServer?pagename=ANS_homepage, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoXkowG_XiY, http://www.ivaw.org/ and http://grassrootsamerica4us.org/. Chaffey College- Unprovoked Police Brutality and Arrests On the Chaffey Community College campus, during one of our most peaceful days, the police arrest and brutalize Joey, James, and Jason after we all complied with school policy, during one of our most peaceful days of activism and free speech. Partial transcript of difficult-to-hear audio: -"He's choking him! He's choking him!"-Jason, as the camera is first pushed away from the door. You can hear him continuing to yell this for about a minute on both sides of the room, including the reception area. -"I'm not resisting!"-James, after he is slammed down on the table, supposedly for resisting the officers. The arrestees: 1st) Jason 2nd) James 3rd) Joey The context: -Listen to what Kortney, the camera person, is saying; she fills it all in. -Toward the end of this video, you can see the main entrance is closed, because they locked down the entire building, closed all the blinds, blocking that side door window with paper, ALL DURING THEIR NORMAL HOURS OF OPERATION, with all three arresttees locked inside for between 20 minutes (Joey) to over an hour (James and Jason). -These are the most talkative and brave members of our team, especially concerning injustice, even when under fire, as you can see at the beginning of the video. By the end of the video, you can see that they aren't saying anything. What did the police say/do to them to so drastically change their normal reactions? -None of them were informed what they were being arrested, nor given prior warning to being arrested, but rather complying with everything the police asked of them (except surrendering our recording devices, one of which they stole and refused to give back). The present situation: -2 of the 3 arrestees are still in a detention center under felony charges. Joey, the one whom they stole the recording device from was brought up on lesser charges. -When the normal police showed up, including San Bernardino Sheriffs and the Fontana police, both of which were informed of the assaults and offered to be shown the videos, talked with us a little, but then left without helping us. The campus police are free to continue doing as they please on the Chaffey College campus. If any of you would like to contact the Chaffey Campus Police Department, or the administration, here is the information: http://www.chaffey.edu **Phone numbers: *Campus Police: 909-652-6632 *Administration: 909/652-6161 *Public Relations: 909/652-6115 **The College Newspaper [#s and website]: (909) 652-6934 [Newsroom], (909) 477-8490 [Story Ideas], (909) 652-6934 [Editors and Staff] http://www.chaffeybreeze.com/contact/ -Call, e-mail, or whatever else you can do to complain, comment, and question to any or all of these departments concerning this obstruction of justice, unprovoked brutality, and spontaneous arrests of peaceful, cooperative prolife activists/free speech advocates performed by the Chaffey College Campus Police on duty on Tuesday, November 13th, 2007 between 10am and 2:30pm in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Here is the more detailed Survivors blog of this event: http://survivors.la/blog/index.php?id=62 One of the reasons we don't have film before the arrests started was because of how sudden they were, and because many of the CLT team had just talked a student out of aborting her baby, and dialoging with other students (for example, the young man giving the oddly-timed commentary about this injustice next to the door while this was all happening is a Chaffey student who had been talking with us before this scene errupted) We'll keep you updated as this story progresses. You don't see how much your rights in this country have really eroded away until you exercise them, and it is only by publicly exercising our rights that they remain secure. Apologies for the poor quality for most of the video; our equipment for porting video cassettes to computers wasn't working. We'll upload an unabridged high-quality version as soon as we can. Armenia: Arrests in Yerevan's Northern Avenue The "political walks" taking place in Yerevan's Northern Avenue are followed by arrests every day. Today more then a dozen citizens were arrested. The video above shows a woman crying and telling the police, that she had come there with her husband with no "political" intent - just to walk, to which police respond, that there is probably a mistake and they'll release her husband soon. Arsen Kharatyan a prominent member of the youth "Sksela" movement is among the arrested today, along with Lyudmila Sargsyan, chairwoman of Social-Democratic Hunchakian Party and Gagik Nersisyan, member of governing body of "Democratic Fatherland" party. The plan for today's "political walk" was to read books and newspapers standing in a line for 15 minutes, starting from 18:30. The police are not giving any reasons for this pointless measures they are undertaking, which are only designed to completely scare people, but are apparently only serving to make people hate the authorities and police even more (if that is only possible at this point). This is not just appalling, this is plain stupid! Source of video and information: http://www.echannel.am/?topic_id=1684 Tags: Armenia Police Human Rights Democracy Morons |

NYC Arrests Artists 2 A Mr. Unhappy Face Film © In 1997 Street Artists won a four year battle in the Federal Courts system , affording them full First Amendment protection when selling art in the public spaces of NYC. In 1998 Giuliani retaliated by privatizing the public park system and initializing yet another unconstitutional permit system against artists of NYC. Those unwilling to submit to this system were again subjected to arrest and confiscation. A.R.T.I.S.T ( Artist Response to Illegal State Tactics) staged a 65 day long protest and consequent Federal Lawsuit in response. This video documents parts of that protest. Civil Disobedience Brings Arrests at U.S. Capitol On Saturday, September 15, 2007, the ANSWER Coalition, a progressive antiwar group, sponsored a Mass March and Die-In in Washington, D.C. Its purpose was to raise the consciousness of enough people in this country to stop the illegal and immoral Iraq War and to prevent the Bush-Cheney Gang from launching a war against Iran. The rally took place in Lafayette Park, just north of the White House, where a number of prominent speakers were heard. It was followed by a march by the demonstrators to the U.S. Capitol, where a symbolic "Die-In" took place. The later affair was led by members of the Iraq Veterans Against the War. An estimated 1,000 of the protesters took part in the "Die-In" part of the event. Some of the demonstrators were also arrested by Capitol Hill police for failing to obey a police order, or for crossing a police line, and/or for possibly various other charges, too. One of the protesters arrested was Brian Becker, National Coordinator for the ANSWER Coalition. For additional details, and updates, on the Sept. 15th rally, and for the exact number of arrests, please see: www.ANSWERCoalition.org. At 11 PM, on 9/15/07, ANSWER was reporting that there had been about 200 arrests at the Capitol and that about 5,000 protesters had ended up participating in the "Die-In." Missouri Drug Bust Nets 247 Arrests Missouri law officers have arrested 247 people in a statewide drug crackdown. Missouri was one of 38 states participating in Wednesday's one-day drug enforcement operation. It was part of an effort to highlight a U.S. Justice Department grant program that law officers fear could be cut in the federal budget. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said law officers around the state seized nearly 17 pounds of marijuana, more than 4 pounds of cocaine, a little more than 5 ounces of crack cocaine, 691 various pills, 24 weapons and more than $8,000. The effort also resulted in 16 meth lab busts. The crackdown resulted in 72 arrests in the Kansas City area. Several have already been charged. "At the end of the day, 19 search warrants were served at locations most affected by narcotics activity. What you see represents what our cooperative efforts can do in just one day of drug enforcement," Kansas City Police Chief James Corwin said. Police said those arrested included three known gang members, two federal fugitives and a rape suspect. KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that it was called Operation Byrne Blitz after the federal Byrne grant that funds the fight against drugs. In Kansas City, the Byrne grant money pays for four undercover narcotics officers. However, the Byrne money is in danger of being cut out of the federal budget. The Byrne grant is named after Edward Byrne, a New York City police officer who was killed by drug traffickers. Tags: KMBC Kansas City Missouri drug bust crackdown |

New York City's Marijuana Arrest Crusade In Spring, 2008, the New York Civil Liberties Union released the report, The Marijuana Arrest Crusade in New York City: Racial Bias in Police Policy 1997-2007. The report, written by Prof. Harry G. Levine, a sociologist at Queens College, and Deborah Peterson Small, an attorney and advocate for drug policy reform, is the first ever in-depth study of misdemeanor marijuana arrests in New York City during the Giuliani and Bloomberg administrations. The results were stunning: Since 1997, the NYPD arrested and jailed nearly 400,000 New Yorkers for possessing small amounts of marijuana, tenfold increase over the previous decade. Fifty-two percent of those arrested were black, and 31 percent were Latino. The arrests were also heavily skewed by gender - 91 percent of people arrested were male. 911 Explosive laden van 2-3 arrests 911 Explosive laden van 2-3 arrests http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/fiveisraelis.html On the day of the 9-11 attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked what the attacks would mean for US-Israeli relations. His quick reply was: "It's very good.......Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)" The Five Dancing Israelis Arrested On 9-11 As the world watched in disbelief Mossad operatives were seen dancing with joy. A Mossad surveillance team made quite a public spectacle of themselves on 9-11. The New York Times reported Thursday that a group of five men had set up video cameras aimed at the Twin Towers prior to the attack on Tuesday, and were seen congratulating one another afterwards. (1) Police received several calls from angry New Jersey residents claiming "middle-eastern" men with a white van were videotaping the disaster with shouts of joy and mockery. "They were like happy, you know ... They didn't look shocked to me" said a witness. [T]hey were seen by New Jersey residents on Sept. 11 making fun of the World Trade Center ruins and going to extreme lengths to photograph themselves in front of the wreckage. Witnesses saw them jumping for joy in Liberty State Park after the initial impact (5). Later on, other witnesses saw them celebrating on a roof in Weehawken, and still more witnesses later saw them celebrating with high fives in a Jersey City parking lot. "It looked like they're hooked in with this. It looked like they knew what was going to happen when they were at Liberty State Park." One anonymous phone call to the authorities actually led them to close down all of New York's bridges and tunnels. The mystery caller told the 9-1-1 dispatcher that a group of Palestinians were mixing a bomb inside of a white van headed for the Holland Tunnel. Here's the transcript from NBC News: Dispatcher: Jersey City police. Caller: Yes, we have a white van, 2 or 3 guys in there, they look like Palestinians and going around a building. Caller: There's a minivan heading toward the Holland tunnel, I see the guy by Newark Airport mixing some junk and he has those sheikh uniform. Dispatcher: He has what? Caller: He's dressed like an Arab. (*Writer's note: Why would this mystery caller specifically say that these "Arabs" were Palestinians? How would he know that? Palestinians usually dress in western style clothes, not "sheikh uniforms") Based on that phone call, police then issued a "Be-on-the-Lookout" alert for a white mini-van heading for the city's bridges and tunnels from New Jersey. White, 2000 Chevrolet van with 'Urban Moving Systems' sign on back seen at Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ, at the time of first impact of jetliner into World Trade Center Three individuals with van were seen celebrating after initial impact and subsequent explosion. FBI Newark Field Office requests that, if the van is located, hold for prints and detain individuals. (9) When a van fitting that exact description was stopped just before crossing into New York, the suspicious "middle-easterners" were apprehended. Imagine the surprise of the police officers when these terror suspects turned out to be Israelis! According to ABC's 20/20, when the van belonging to the cheering Israelis was stopped by the police, the driver of the van, Sivan Kurzberg, told the officers: "We are Israelis. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are your problem." (10) Why did he feel that Palestinians were a problem for the NYPD? The police and FBI field agents became very suspicious when they found maps of the city with certain places highlighted, box cutters (the same items that the hijackers supposedly used), $4700 cash stuffed in a sock, and foreign passports. Police also told the Bergen Record that bomb sniffing dogs were brought to the van and that they reacted as if they had smelled explosives. (11) The FBI seized and developed their photos, one of which shows Sivan Kurzberg flicking a cigarette lighter in front of the smouldering ruins in an apparently celebratory gesture. The Jerusalem Post later reported that a white van with a bomb was stopped as it approached the George Washington Bridge, but the ethnicity of the suspects was not revealed. Here's what the Jerusalem Post reported on September 12, 2001: American security services overnight stopped a car bomb on the George Washington Bridge. The van, packed with explosives, was stopped on an approach ramp to the bridge. Authorities suspect the terrorists intended to blow up the main crossing between New Jersey and New York, Army Radio reported. "...two suspects are in FBI custody after a truckload of explosives was discovered around the George Washington Bridge ... The FBI ... says enough explosives were in the truck to do great damage to the George Washington Bridge." Tags: 911 Explosive laden van 2-3 arrests |

Hillsborough County Fl. Deputy Kevin Stabins Arrests Woman Deputy Kevin Stabins didn't believe the crying woman. He told investigators he thought she was lying to get out of a speeding ticket and that his actions in arresting her were "fine." His dashboard camera showed otherwise. It showed the Hillsborough County deputy yanking a sobbing Melissa J. Langston out of a car in a hospital parking lot Nov. 1 and using his elbow to shove her over the trunk to handcuff her. Langston, 37, sobbed and pleaded with the deputy that her father had suffered a heart attack and that she was trying to find him. "And I told you not to go anywhere, didn't I?" Stabins said. "Now you're not going to see him because you're going to jail. Not smart. Not smart. Have a seat, you're under arrest." Officials said Stabins' lack of compassion and use of "excessive and unnecessary" force in the arrest Nov. 1 brought him a five-day suspension without pay. The recommendation came after a recent Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office disciplinary hearing. All charges against Langston were dropped. Stabins, 29, is a good deputy who "used poor judgment in that situation," Sheriff David Gee said Wednesday. "I understand that it's difficult when you get out there," Gee said. "I give deputies the ability to use discretion [in making arrests]. He didn't use that here." Clocked Doing 63 In A 35 mph Zone Stabins had tracked Langston traveling 63 mph in a 35 mph zone. He turned on his cruiser's flashing lights and sirens as she neared University Community Hospital, and the distraction caused her to miss two entrances, officials said. The video shows Stabins walking up to Langston's car, and her saying she was looking for the emergency room entrance. Stabins made no attempt to verify the woman's story about her father's heart attack and asked for her ID. Langston asked if Stabins could issue her the ticket in the emergency room, but Stabins returned to his patrol car to write the citation Tags: Hillsborough County Florida FL Tampa Deputy Kevin Stabins dashboard dash cam camera Melissa J. Arrests at A-B Tech (Free Speech) This is a video of Survivors being arrested on October 2nd, 2007 at 12:50pm doing free speech activity at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College (A-B Tech) in Asheville, North Carolina. Along with 5 Survivors Campus Life Tours members, 3 citizens of Asheville were arrested, including a current student of A-B Tech, the director of a local prolife group, and a former A-B Tech student. Each of us said things to the effect of, if they showed us this was not public property, we would gladly leave. They refused to answer our questions and instead ignored them, and arrested us because we refused to allow our 1st amendment rights to be trampled upon. The police unlawfully arrested us under what may be an unconstitutional North Carolina statute, which will be challenged in court. Survivors has won every case like this over the last 10 years, and the police and college administration were informed of this prior to the arrests. The college will also be sued, taking money away from their own community college students, due to insisting on these unlawful, anti-1st amendment arrests. In addition to defending the unborn, we are free speech advocates. Not backing down when being unlawfully arrested preserves all of our 1st amendment rights. Asheville Citizen Times article: http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200771002143 -The article doesn't really make it clear, but there were 5 Survivors arrested (2 female, 3 male) plus 3 Asheville residents (1 female, 2 male), with a total of 3 females and 5 males arrested.
