Home Workout: Barbell Rows for Lats http://fitness.scoobysworkshop.com I know I promised an advanced pushup video next, its halfway done - filming the video wiped me out with all the retakes so I couldnt finish it in one session. This video shows how to do barbell rows. Dont attempt these if you have lower back problems, stick to the pullups. While we are on the subject of pullups, these barbell rows are no substitute for pullups. When it comes to building lats, pullups are king! Keys to good form on the barbell row: 1) keep your back motionless 2) keep your abs flexed and tight to support your lower back 3) make sure to breathe, dont hold your breath 4) pull the bar to your hip, not your shoulders 5) use a slow, smooth motion - no jerking By the way, I know I screwed up twice and said "dumbbell row" where I meant "barbell row". I didnt bother re-filming becuase I figured it wouldnt cause any confusion. Anyone can be healthier, have more energy, sleep better, and feel better about themselves through bodybuilding. Bodybuilding doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, gyms are great but home workouts can save you time and money. A cheap dumbbell set from a garage sale or walmart is all it takes to get started with your home workouts. Bodybuilding exercise: home barbell curls workout The barbell curl is a great mass building exercise for the arms you can do at home with just an inexpensive barbell set. Form is key on this, most folks at the gym use terrible form. In this exercise, your elbows are pinned to your sides - the do not move one bit. Nothing moves except your your forearms. Your back, legs, head are all completely motionless. If you have to swing or bounce then you are using way too much weight. As with any dumbbell exercise, form is key if you want to maximize your muscle building efforts and minimize the chance of injury. Don't use too much weight, if you can't do the exercise slowly then you need to go lighter. Count aloud "one onethousand, two onethousand, three onethousand" on the way up and the way down, if you cant do this on this exercise then you are using too much weight. The reason this exercise method maximizes your muscle growth is because it confines the motion to the muscle you are trying to work out, if your body squirms, swings, and kicks, all you are doing is taking the focus away from the muscle you are trying to exercise. Barbell Rows Row Lat back Functional Exercise http://askthetrainer.com/best-back-exercise.html Barbell Rows are one of the most basic and functional back or lats exercises but it is absolutely you perform them properly or a lower back injury is very possible. Keep your legs bent and your back flat. Never let your shoulders round. Also keep the weight as close to your center of gravity as possible. This means the bar should be as close to your body for the whole range of motion. Keep strict form. If you look in a mirror on the side, your back will be around 45 degrees and when you lift the bar up all the way to your stomach your elbows should be above your back. If you are healthy and experienced, barbell rows are a great functional exercise for strength. If you have lower back pain, NEVER do barbell rows, there are many exercises which can work the same muscles.
