Street Theater Demo at Bechtel/DOE Iraqi War profiteer, the Bechtel Corporation, was lampooned in a Street Theater skit performed by Peace and Justice activists, on Aug. 7, 2007. The event took place at Bechtel's down town Washington, D.C. headquarters. It is a company long associated with the powerful and grasping Military-Industrial Complex in this country, along with the seminal issue of "nuclear weapons proliferation." Earlier in the morning, the activists had performed a comparable satirical demo in front of the Department of Energy (DOE), at Independence Ave. The DOE is a department, whose predecessor agency was involved in the creation of the first Atomic Bombs. Two survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings were at the DOE ceremony. Today, the DOE is involved in maintaining, inter alia, the nation's "nuclear weapons programs," according to a press release of the sponsoring group for the demonstration, "The Atlantic Life Community," see: http://www.serve.com/nukeresister/134atlantic.html. Ein Festessen für Dr. Lilo Bechtel. Tolle Frau mit 88 Lilo Bechtel (88), eine langjährige gute Bekannte von Sigrun Offerhaus, hatte zum Essen im 'Schloßhotel' Grünwald geladen. Das Wetter war perfekt, die Stimmung gut, das Essen (bis auf Sigruns Fleisch) auch - ein (fast) perfekter Mittagsausflug ans Isarhochufer. Natürlich musste Frau Bechtel im Garten von Sigrun (offerhaus@web.de) die gesamte 'tönerne' Belegschaft (in der eigenen Werkstatt gefertigt) bestaunen, die tolle Pflanzen- und Blumenpracht geniessen und dann gabs ja noch 'Zwetschgendatschi' mit Kaffee zum Nachtisch. Und natürlich wurde viel über 'Gott und die Welt' geredet, sie freuten sich über den netten Sonntagnachmittag. Leider vegeht die Zeit sehr schnell und wir fuhren Lilo Bechtel wieder nach Hause in München Lochham. Der Nachmittag war halt doch sehr lang für sie. Auf dem Rückweg gönnten wir uns noch ein Eis und Sigrun bekam ihren wohlverdienten 'Hageldrink' (Gin-Tonic), das Wetter war einfach super.
