Islam 101: Muslims beliefs Who are the Muslims and what do they believe? Muslims are over 1.6 Billion people in the world. They come from all walks of life. They come from a vast range of races, nationalities and cultures across the planet. Muslims come from Indonesia,Turkey, Egypt,Malaysia, United States, Russia, Nigeria, Australia, Philippines, Algeria, China and many many more countries! Muslims are not united by culture, race or by nationalities ... but by their faith! Many think that must Muslims are actually Arabs but the truth is that only about 18% to 15% of the Muslim population is actually of Arabs origin. What do Muslims believe? 1- They believe in Allah, the only one God, Unique, Incomparable. there is nothing like unto him. 2- In the Angels created by Allah. 3- They believe in the prophets: Adam, Enoch, Noah, Eber, Shelah, Abraham, Lot, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Jethro, Moses, Aaron, Ezekiel, David, Solomon, Elijah, Elisha, Jonah, Zechariah, John, Jesus, Muhammad. Peace and Blessings be upon them All. 4- In the day of judgment 5- In individual accountability for ones sins and God's complete and unquestionable authority over human destiny and life after death! 6- In the messages sent by Allah through his prophets and the Final Revelation sent by Allah to Prophet Muhammad, through angel Gabriel. The Five Pillars of Islam are the five duties incumbent on every Muslim. These duties are Shahadah (profession of faith), Salah (ritual prayer), Zakah (alms tax), Sawm (fasting during Ramadan), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). These five practices are all Muslims. The Shahadah or profession of faith is saying and believing: "I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah". As the most important pillar, this testament is a foundation for all other beliefs and practices in Islam. Ideally, these are the first words a newborn will hear, and children are taught their meaning as soon as they are able to understand it . These words will be recited when a Muslim dies. Muslims must repeat the shahadah in prayer, and non-Muslims wishing to convert to Islam are required to recite the creed. Salah: The second pillar of Islam is Salah, the requirement to pray five times a day at fixed times. Each salah is performed facing towards the Kaaba in Mecca. Salah is intended to focus the mind on Allah; it is seen as a personal communication with Allah. Zakah, or alms-giving, is the practice of charitable giving by Muslims based on accumulated wealth, and is obligatory for all who are able to do so. It is considered to be a personal responsibility for Muslims to ease economic hardship for others and eliminate inequality. Sawm Three types of fasting (Sawm) are recognized by the Qur'an: Ritual fasting, fasting as compensation or repentance and ascetic fasting. Ritual fasting is an obligatory act during the month of Ramadan. Muslims must abstain from food, drink, and sexual intercourse from dawn to dusk during this month, and are to be especially mindful of other sins. The fast is meant to allow Muslims to seek nearness to Allah, to express their gratitude to and dependence on him, to atone for their past sins, and to remind them of the needy. During Ramadan, Muslims are also expected to put more effort into following the teachings of Islam by refraining from violence, anger, envy, greed, lust, harsh language, gossip, etc Fasting during Ramadan is not obligatory for several groups for whom it would be excessively problematic. These include pre-pubescent children, those with a medical condition such as diabetes, elderly people, and pregnant or breastfeeding women. Observing fasts is not required for menstruating women. Other individuals for whom it is considered acceptable not to fast are those in combat and travelers who intended to spend fewer than five days away from home. Missing fasts usually must be made up soon afterwards, although the exact requirements vary according to circumstance. Hajj The Hajj is a pilgrimage that occurs during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah in the city of Mecca. Every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so is obliged to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in his or her lifetime. Islamic teachers say that the Hajj should be an expression of devotion to Allah, not a means to gain social standing. The believer should be self-aware and examine his or her intentions in performing the pilgrimage. This should lead to constant striving for self-improvement. Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others 18. Respect the religious beliefs of others. The Way to Happiness is comprised of 21 precepts, each one predicated on the fact that one's survival depends on the survival of all others—and that without the survival of others, no joy and no happiness are attainable. In illustration of those precepts, the Church of Scientology sponsored the production and airing of a corresponding series of informational videos. They are presented in the spirit of the booklet itself, which is a roadmap to a happier life through values of compassion and caring that every member of a civilized society holds dear.
