Ohio Bobcats Basketball Highlights Highlights of the Ohio/Buffalo game this past season, created by my friend and fellow O-Zone member, Nasipak. He also wrote and performed the music that goes along with the video. Ohio and Buffalo had battled the previous season for the MAC Championship title, with Ohio coming out on top from a Leon Williams overtime tip in, which sent Ohio to the NCAA Tourney with a final score of 80-79. This game was very much awaited from both ends, with Ohio again defeating the Bulls soundly at home. Enjoy the highlights! Oh yeah, at the end where you see the kid with the sign "How was the NIT?", you can see me in the tall green hat with facepaint off to the left of it. LAKERS@BOBCATS kobe 58 pts in a loss (2006) CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Kobe Bryant walked slowly into the locker room, sighed and stopped instead of continuing to his locker to meet reporters. Elias Says BryantKobe Bryant scored 58 points in the Lakers' loss. It was the 14th time in Kobe's career that he scored at least 50 points in a game, tying him with Rick Barry for fourth-most in NBA history, behind Wilt Chamberlain (118 such games), Michael Jordan (31) and Elgin Baylor (17). • For more Elias Says, click here "I don't want to have to walk all the way over there," Bryant said. Bryant was exhausted. His 58 points in 55 minutes were offset by two key errors in the third overtime, and the Charlotte Bobcats outlasted the Los Angeles Lakers 133-124 on Friday night. "I don't want to have to do that," Bryant said of his big scoring night. "It's too tiring." Bryant spoiled the third-highest point total of his career by committing a foul on Derek Anderson's 3-point attempt with 1:14 left. Anderson hit all three free throws to give Charlotte a 129-124 lead. Bryant then missed a long jumper and fouled out when Anderson drew a charge on the next possession. Bryant shot 22-of-45 and his performance trailed only his 81-point game last January in Toronto and a 62-point effort last December in Dallas. "I've been guarding him for 10 years," Anderson said. "I knew he was going to drive and do that." Bryant disagreed with both foul calls. "Silly calls," Bryant said. "I saw what (New Jersey Nets guard Jason) Kidd said and I don't want to be $20,000 lighter." Emeka Okafor had 22 points and a career-high 25 rebounds, Gerald Wallace scored 28 and Matt Carroll added a career-high 27 points for the Bobcats, who played their first triple-overtime game in franchise history. Raymond Felton added 22 points and 15 assists in 57 minutes for the Bobcats, who snapped a three-game losing streak. "I'm hurting, no question," Felton said. "But this was one of the best games in history. I'm glad I was a part of it." Rookie Adam Morrison was held to five points on 1-of-15 shooting, but the Bobcats were able to get another win against a good team. Five of Charlotte's eight victories have come against Utah, Detroit, Orlando, San Antonio, and the Lakers, who ended a six-game road trip 3-3 despite Bryant's third 50-point game of the season. The trouble was nobody else scored more than 14 points or took more than 10 shots for the Lakers, and Bryant appeared to tire down the stretch. "I was yelling at them to run their offense and get away from that. They just seemed to be going back to him all the time," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. Bryant curiously passed on throwing up a prayer at the end of the second overtime and Sasha Vujacic couldn't get a shot off at the buzzer, creating the NBA's second triple-overtime game in three nights. New York beat Detroit 151-145 on Wednesday night. Bryant missed two jumpers at the end of regulation, including a 20-footer at the buzzer, and Felton missed two shots in the final five seconds of the first overtime for Charlotte. Wallace fouled out late in the first overtime when he picked up two fouls in 15 seconds trying to guard Bryant. Little-used Bernard Robinson replaced him, and scored four points in the third OT. "We wanted him to go in for defense, and he ended up giving us a little bit of offense," coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. Bryant's 3-pointer with 2:34 left in regulation snapped a tie and his fadeaway with 1:47 left made it 101-98. But Carroll's floater and a putback kept the Bobcats in it, and Wallace's three-point play with 43 seconds left tied it. Bryant scored 27 points in the first half, but picked up his fourth foul -- and a technical foul for arguing -- with seven minutes left in the third quarter. He sat out the final five minutes of the period and the Bobcats took a five-point lead on Carroll's 3. Bryant didn't take long to wow the crowd of 19,561, the largest in the arena's two-year history. He hit six of his first seven shots, including a spectacular one-handed dunk off an alley-oop pass, to give the Lakers a 22-12 lead. The Lakers led by as many as 14 in the first quarter. "The fans got to see Kobe Bryant at his best, but for us to be able to come out on top tonight was great," Wallace said Game notes Bobcats G Brevin Knight underwent successful surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle Friday in Philadelphia. Bickerstaff said Knight will be able to begin rehabilitation in about a week, and hopes to return in a month. ... Bickerstaff said he's not sure if they'll bring in another point guard, which would require them to release a player. ... Jackson acknowledged it's been tough being on the road for 12 days after recently undergoing hip replacement surgery. "It was a challenge," said Jackson, who still noticeably limps. Allen Iverson 24pts 13asts vs Jason Richardson Bobcats 07/08 Carmelo Anthony blew by a defender in the first half, threw down a reverse jam and landed on his left foot. The usually ordinary play told Anthony everything he needed to know -- his sprained left ankle was just fine. "I figured if I could do that, I'm good," Anthony said. A healthy Anthony scored 25 points, Allen Iverson had 24 points and 13 assists, and the Denver Nuggets beat the Charlotte Bobcats 117-101 on Saturday night. "It didn't hurt at all," said Anthony, who missed five games after landing on the foot of Kobe Bryant on Jan. 21. "It felt good to be back." The Nuggets, who won their eighth straight game at home, were all too happy to have him back, especially Iverson. "When he is not in the lineup, it makes it tougher for me," Iverson said. "He is the main part of our team and he enables us to do so much with the attention that he gets." Linas Kleiza may be drawing more attention after the fourth-quarter performance he turned in against the Bobcats. Kleiza scored 16 of his 23 points in the period. "I started being more aggressive and it paid off," Kleiza said. "I don't think I lack confidence right now." The Bobcats may be lacking in that category after watching a potential win evaporate. They were seemingly in control of the game, leading 87-77 late in the third quarter, when the Nuggets surged ahead. Denver went on a 23-3 run -- including 15 straight points at one point -- to wrap up its second straight win. Charlotte has lost four of five, including three straight road games. "We knew they were going to make a run here at home, but we thought we were going to answer back," said Jason Richardson, who tied a season high with 38 points. The Bobcats were coming off a 127-96 loss the night before, and fatigue may have played a role. "Tough game in Golden State last night, late-night travel, high altitude, but we don't want to make excuses," said Sam Vincent, who reached his boiling point late in the game and was ejected after two technical fouls. "We came in, we played hard, we played well for probably 38 minutes and then we had some defensive lapses. We don't get some calls and things swing out of control for us." Richardson was unstoppable early, but then went cold in the final quarter. He scored just two points -- on two free throws -- over the last 12 minutes. That's due to the stifling defense that Yakhouba Diawara played on him. "They limited my touches," Richardson said. "Diawara made it tough for me to get to the hole. They just turned up the defense on me." Emeka Okafor added 20 points and 18 rebounds, and Raymond Felton, playing on a sprained left ankle, scored 14 points. The Nuggets were without Marcus Camby (left knee bruise) and Eduardo Najera (rib injury), leading to easy dunks and layups by the Bobcats all night long. Camby has been bothered by the knee the past few games and decided to give it a rest. Najera was injured taking a charge in the fourth quarter against Memphis on Wednesday. Anthony figured with the two sidelined, he needed to pick up the rebounding slack. He finished with 10 rebounds, giving him his 12th double-double of the season. "I've got to help out," he said. Steven Hunter made his first start of the season in place of Camby, and scored eight points in more than 27 minutes. "I don't think we win this game without Steven," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "He was a big presence in the middle." Karl was impressed with the Nuggets' ability to kick their defense up a notch in the second half, but he wishes they'd bear down earlier. After allowing the Bobcats to shoot 61 percent from the field in the first half, the Nuggets held them to 24 percent in the final half. "There are too many times where I walk into that locker room and we are letting a team shoot over 55 percent on us," Karl said. "Then, we change our face and personality and we look like the San Antonio Spurs on defense. I dont think that is the personality of a champion on defense. There has got to be a better foundation early in games and I think our guys know that." Game notes Bobcats guards Earl Boykins played 12:28 against his former team. Boykins was signed by Charlotte on Thursday to provide backcourt depth. ... Nuggets F Kenyon Martin and G Anthony Carter both finished with 10 points. ... Bobcats F Gerald Wallace didn't play after spraining his right ankle against Golden State. Vincent said he might be out a week. Kobe Bryant 32 points 9 assists vs Bobcats, GW 2004-05 March 12th, 2005 Charlotte Coliseum Charlotte, NC Boxscore: http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200503120CHA.html The famous game winner. Being a playoff bound team at the time, the Lakers had come off one of their hugest victories of the season downing the Mavericks by 5 off of 36 points from Kobe. But that didn't stop the next game against the expansion team to be easy. The famous game winner. Also the 1st game that started consecutive games of at least 30 points at Charlotte. Being a playoff bound team at the time, the Lakers had come off one of their hugest victories of the season downing the Mavericks by 5 off of 36 points from Kobe. But that didn't stop the next game against the expansion team to be easy. The Charlotte Bobcats who were one of the worse teams in the league never gave the Lakers a sigh of relief in the game as Emeka Okafor made history as the first Bobcat to reach 30 points. He also had 11 rebounds. Matt Carroll helped too as he exploded in the mid 4th quarter with 3 straight shots. Chucky Atkin's defense was also as bad as it was the whole season as Brevin Knight also made history as the first Bobcat to record over 15 assists. He also made bigger history as the player to record the most assists without a turnover. He had a 21/17 game while playing tough D on Kobe. Kobe had been frustrated by the Bobcat defense the whole night and was 4-14 entering the 8 minute mark of the 4th quarter although he was contributing in other ways with 8 assists. But, even during the middle of a mediocre season(by his standards), Kobe willed his team to a victory behind 8-10 shooting. The rampage started when the Lakers were down 100-90 with 7 minutes to go. But in just under two minutes, Kobe made 10 straight points to bring LA within 103-99. He made 6 straight jumpshots at one point including 3 threes. He topped the game off with a game winning shot from long range to help the Lakers avoid an embarrassment. Kobe finished the game off with 32 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds on a respectable 12-24 from the field. When asked what spurred the scoring barrage Kobe responded, "One of those guys who was sitting courtside at the beginning of the fourth quarter said 'Kobe, 11 points, we're shutting you down.' I just looked at him and said 'Dude, I'm about to get going.' Brevin Knight helped me out, too. He got me going." When asked what Knight said to him when a technical foul occurred, Kobe responded, "I don't know. I can't hear him. He's too little." Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats Mar.2/08 hris Bosh, in his nice-looking suit on the bench, had as many second-chance points as his Toronto Raptors teammates. Zero. In a listless performance against one of the NBA's worst teams, the Bosh-less Raptors gave up 30 points to Charlotte's Jason Richardson, and allowed the Bobcats to dominate the glass in a 110-98 win on Sunday. With their top scorer and rebounder sidelined for perhaps a week with a sore right knee, the Raptors gave up 32 second-chance points. The Bobcats had a 50-37 rebounding advantage in snapping a five-game losing streak. Toronto hardly looked like a team trying to secure home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. ``We didn't take the team lightly, because if we took them lightly they wouldn't have shot 43 per cent,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``The tough things, we didn't do them. We didn't box out. They beat us up on the glass. There's nothing else to say.'' Richardson, taking over the brunt of the scoring with Gerald Wallace out indefinitely following a severe concussion, hit 10 of 24 shots and all seven free throws. Rookie Jared Dudley added a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds for Charlotte, which won for only the second time in 14 games. ``We're going to continue to fight,'' coach Sam Vincent said. Anthony Parker scored 24 points and Bosh's fill-in, Rasho Nesterovic, added 16 points, but 13 came in the first quarter. Andrea Bargnani also failed to step up his game with Toronto's three-time All-Star in street clothes, finishing with six points and five rebounds on 2-of-8 shooting. ``I think we were soft tonight, very soft,'' centre Primoz Brezec said. ``We've got to man up a little bit. Our focus was not there.'' The Bobcats, who essentially acknowledged they are no longer in the playoff hunt when they waived veteran guard Jeff McInnis on Friday, used a young lineup to dominate the second half. Dudley played 36 minutes and his three-pointer with 3:43 left ended Toronto's comeback hopes. Matt Carroll, starting for Wallace, scored 15 points. Even second-round pick Jermareo Davidson had four points in 15 minutes. ``We're just playing out there,'' Richardson said of the Bobcats' carefree attitude. ``We're undermanned, so we're just going out there and playing for pride right now.'' It was an embarrassing night for the Raptors, two nights after Bosh limped off the floor in the fourth quarter of Friday's loss to Indiana. The Raptors didn't appear to miss him in building an 11-point first-half lead, only to implode after halftime. Charlotte had an 18-2 run and outscored the Raptors 34-21 in the third quarter. Raymond Felton, back as the primary point guard with McInnis jettisoned, added 17 points, eight assists and one turnover. ``Ray was really aggressive of getting the ball and pushing it in transition,'' Vincent said. ``That really created some real nice buckets for us.'' The Bobcats built the lead to 84-70 in the first minute of the fourth quarter. They held on thanks to the rebounding domination, led by Emeka Okafor's 15 boards to go with 14 points. ``It's not the first time this has happened,'' Mitchell said of the rebounding discrepancy. ``It's happened to us too often. I understand that's a weakness of our basketball team. But that's no excuse. ``You've got to put a body and you've got to go and get the basketball.'' Notes: Wallace watched from the bench, the first time he was around the team since he was knocked unconscious against Sacramento on Feb. 22. Coach Sam Vincent said Wallace is scheduled to undergo more tests this week and hopes he'll be cleared to play soon. ... Vincent said there was no urgency to fill McInnis' roster spot. ... Raptors C Primoz Brezec, who criticized Vincent before the game for not using him properly, had four points and four fouls in 11 minutes against his former team. Cavaliers-Bobcats 118-114 [James 29pts vs Richardson 31pts] CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 2, 2008 (AP) -- A night of frustration for LeBron James might have helped the Cleveland Cavaliers' playoff preparation. With James watching helplessly from the bench after fouling out for only the third time in his career, a trio of teammates made big plays in the final 4 minutes as the Cavaliers held off the Charlotte Bobcats 118-114 on Wednesday to snap a six-game road skid. Entering the night, James had been disqualified twice in 417 games in his five-year career. But after scoring 29 points, James was called for his sixth foul when he reached in on Charlotte's Jason Richardson at the top of his drive to the basket with Cleveland leading 104-101 with 3:56 left. "I don't like sitting on the bench and not being out there for my teammates," James said. "But I think we made a big step forward." Wally Szczerbiak, Devin Brown and Zydrunas Ilgauskas then showed the Cavs aren't completely a one-man show. Szczerbiak hit a jumper, Brown hit two free throws and Ilgauskas had two buckets as the Cavaliers took a 113-106 lead. Richardson hit two 3-pointers to get the Bobcats to 116-114, but Brown made two free throws with 20 seconds left to put it away. "It doesn't happen a lot to LeBron. It doesn't happen often to superstars of his caliber," Cavs coach Mike Brown said of James' foul trouble. "But it happened tonight and our guys stayed composed and found a way to win the game down the stretch." Brown finished with 20 points, Anderson Varejao made eight of nine shots and added 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Ilgauskas had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Cleveland. The Cavaliers had seven players reach double figures in improving to 17-22 on the road. "They have a very talented team all the way down the roster," Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace said. Richardson had 31 points, Emeka Okafor matched a season high with 25 and Wallace scored 21 for the Bobcats, who lost their second straight game amid questions of coach Sam Vincent's future. With the Bobcats out of the playoff picture, part-owner Michael Jordan hasn't said if Vincent will return next season. And on the same day Vincent made a passionate plea to keep his job, the Bobcats couldn't take advantage of James' absence. "We want to finish up the season strong. We want to build on getting better as a team and getting ready for next year," said Richardson, who added six rebounds and seven assists. "We played a tough game tonight, but we still didn't get the win." Early on, James wowed the crowd which included Davidson guard Stephen Curry. James was so impressed with Curry's torrid streak during the NCAA tournament he attended Davidson's upset win over Wisconsin last week in Detroit, when Curry scored 33 points. Curry returned the favor by watching James -- and even wore a pair of James' line of sneakers. James made four straight free throws, a 3-pointer and driving layup in a 16-4 run to put Cleveland ahead 81-72 with 3:42 left in the third quarter, wiping out an early 12-point Charlotte lead. But James picked up his fifth foul with 8:34 left when he smacked Wallace in the face trying to get position in the post. James vehemently protested the call. "There were a few questionable ones," James said. "I know how to keep myself out of foul trouble for the most part. In my career I've done a great job of that." With James on the bench, the Bobcats tied it on Richardson's jumper with 5:25 left. Mike Brown put James back in, but he lasted less than two minutes. He then watched his teammates bail him out. "It's kind of special," James said. "The guys did a great job of not worrying about me being on the bench. They stepped in and make some big plays." Game notes Cavaliers F Ben Wallace sat out for the fourth time in five games due to back problems. Brown said he's being cautious with Wallace, who has been cleared by the medical staff to play. ... Bobcats rookie Jared Dudley started ahead of Nazr Mohammed, with Vincent looking for someone to counter the energetic Varejao. ... Devin Brown fell into the crowd when he was fouled early in the second quarter. He got up, only to trip over another row of chairs, drawing a standing ovation from his teammates on the bench. Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats Dec.3/07 Even without three of their top players, the injury-riddled Toronto Raptors had no problem handling the Charlotte Bobcats on Monday. Kris Humphries and Carlos Delfino scored 17 points apiece to top Toronto in a 98-79 win over Charlotte, sending the slumping Bobcats to their sixth straight loss. The Raptors were missing starters Chris Bosh (groin), T.J. Ford (arm) and Andrea Bargnani (knee). But the Raptors' depth proved their saviour once again, with six players scoring in double figures. Joey Graham had 13 points in his first start of the season. Jose Calderon had 12 points and nine assists, Anthony Parker added 11 points and Jason Kapono finished with 10. Rookie Jamario Moon added 12 rebounds for Toronto (10-8). Gerald Wallace scored 19 points to lead the Bobcats (6-10). The Raptors never trailed Monday, and were up by as many as 21 points before heading into the fourth quarter with a 76-59 advantage. The Bobcats scored the first four points of the fourth to cut Toronto's lead to 13 points. But the game was never in doubt, and the Raptors were up by 20 points with 5:11 left when Humphries finished a series of nifty passes with a dunk that brought the crowd of 17,439 to its feet. A driving layup by Humphries with just under a minute left gave Toronto a 22-point lead en route to the team's fourth consecutive win at the Air Canada Centre. The Raptors shot 51 per cent on the night and held the Bobcats to 33 per cent shooting. They also outrebounded the visitors 46-35. But while the Raptors had a relatively easy time with the struggling Bobcats, they could use their injured threesome back Wednesday when they host Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns. Bosh, the team's leading scorer and rebounder, missed his third consecutive game with a strained right groin. Ford, the starting point guard, missed his fifth game with a ``stinger'' in his arm, a nerve irritation that radiates down the arms. Calderon has played superbly in Ford's absence and Monday was no different. On one frenzied sequence in the second quarter, the hard-working guard fell down but kept his dribble going, only to have his layup ring around the basket then fall out. But he raced downcourt, stole the ball off Okafor then finished with a driving layup. Bargnani sat out with a hyper-extended left knee, suffered in Saturday's 101-97 loss to the Washington Wizards. All three injured players are listed as day-to-day. The Raptors came out strong, shooting a sizzling 55 per cent in the first quarter and taking a 22-8-point advantage on a layup by Calderon late in the frame. They led 27-16 heading into the second quarter. The Raptors opened the second on a 13-5 run, a three-pointer by Darrick putting the home team up 40-21. Toronto held the Bobcats to 28 per cent shooting in the first half and led 54-33 at the break. The Bobcats opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to creep back to within 12 points, but they could get no closer. The Raptors stretched their lead to 69-49 on a three by Delfino, and were up 76-59 heading into the final quarter. NOTES: Following Wednesday's game against the Suns, the Raptors head to Boston to face the Celtics on Friday...The Raptors won a team-record 30 games at home last season, but never more than three in a row. Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats Apr.4/08 Last season, the Toronto Raptors celebrated a trip to the playoffs on a plane after securing a post-season berth with a win in Philadelphia. The mood probably wasn't as jovial on a flight to New Jersey Friday night after the struggling Raptors (38-38) took the back door into the 2007-08 playoffs. Less than an hour after a frustrating 105-100 loss to the lowly Charlotte Bobcats (29-47) before a sellout crowd of 19,800 at the Air Canada Centre, the Raptors clinched a post-season berth for just the fifth time in their 13-year history when the Detroit Pistons beat the New Jersey Nets 106-87. The Raptors could drop under .500 for the first time since they were 6-7 on Nov. 24 with a loss Saturday against the Nets. If the playoffs started now, the Raptors would be in seventh spot in the Eastern Conference and facing a scary first-round matchup against the playoff-tested Detroit Pistons. The Raptors are a game behind the Philadelphia 76ers and the Washington Wizards (both 39-37), who are tied for the fifth spot. Even though the playoffs were all but a foregone conclusion weeks ago, Raptors star Chris Bosh seemed to indicate these are desperate times for his team. When asked if the team has enough time to turn it around with six games left in the season, Bosh said: ``I have no idea. We're not acting like it to be honest. We have to play like the time is now and I don't think we're doing a good job of doing that''. Once again an athletic swingman _ the Bobcats' Jason Richardon_- had his way with the Raptors defence, scoring a game-high 27 points. Guard Raymond Felton added 21 with 14 in the fourth quarter. ``We're just not executing on defence when we need to,'' Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. ``We have stretches where we play good defence and then we have stretches where we just don't. You can't do that trying to make the playoffs or going into the playoffs.'' Rasho Nesterovic tied Bosh with 23 points, a season-high for the Slovenian centre, who also had 10 rebounds. For the second game in a row, the Raptors couldn't wrap up a playoff spot on their own against a weaker opponent. The Bobcats outscored the Raptors 31-24 in the fourth quarter as they made a point of driving to the basket and battling for offensive rebounds. A steal by pint-sized point guard Earl Boykins off Raptors point guard T.J. Ford and an ensuing three-point play was the dagger. With less than 50 seconds left and the Raptors trailing 98-97, Boykins stripped the ball away from a dribbling Ford and raced down the court. He converted a lay-up and was fouled by Ford before putting the Bobcats up 101-97 with 41 seconds left on a free-throw. ``I don't think that one play dictates the whole game,'' said Ford, who was having a strong game up until that point as he tied a season-high with 14 assists. ``I think we've just got to do a better job in the fourth quarters. We're going into the fourth quarter with leads and we're not doing a good job of protecting them.'' While Ford is playing well, he also has made some key mistakes down the stretch in the past two games. In Atlanta on Wednesday, Ford failed to foul Mike Bibby, who hit a game-tying three-pointer with 0.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter, leading to an overtime win for the Hawks. Toronto, the top three-point shooting team in the NBA, couldn't keep runs going because of their inability to hit the three-point shot in the opening half as they missed all six of their attempts. The Raptors finally hit a three on a Jamario Moon shot with 7:28 left in the third quarter, extending the team's record streak of hitting at least one three to 772 games. Notes: Bobcats starting forward Gerald Wallace left the game at halftime with left groin soreness. Matt Carroll took his spot to open the second half ... Since returning to the starting lineup, Ford is averaging 14.4 points and 8.8 assists in five games ... Nesterovic scored in double figures for the 12th game in a row. Toronto Raptors vs Charlotte Bobcats Mar.31/08 Quiet Chris Bosh is suddenly talking all over the court, and the Toronto Raptors hope the newfound motormouth will lead them on a playoff run. Bosh put up offensive numbers consistent with his All-Star season on Monday night: 32 points, eight rebounds and 13 of 16 free-throw shooting. But the striking scene in the Raptors' 104-100 win over the Charlotte Bobcats was the sight of Bosh yelling out instructions on defense, warning teammates of back screens and announcing double-teams. It's something Bosh, never one to light up a room with boisterous conversation, decided he must do. "Sometimes I catch myself being quiet, but then I have to pick it back up and start talking again," Bosh said. "I'm not a talker by nature. That's how I am naturally. So I know I have to step outside of myself because I really like winning." The Raptors need wins as they try to avoid slipping to seventh place in the Eastern Conference and a likely first-round playoff matchup with powerful Detroit. Their third win in four games kept them alone in sixth, a game ahead of idle Philadelphia. Bosh was the difference as Toronto avenged a 22-point loss to Charlotte on March 2 when the Bobcats held a 32-0 edge on second-chance points. Bosh didn't play in that game. With the Raptors' talkative big man clogging the middle, Charlotte managed only seven offensive rebounds as its three-game winning streak was snapped. "I thought Rasho (Nesterovic) and Chris, I could hear them talking on defense," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "Rasho is rubbing off on Chris, as far as communicating in the back." Nesterovic added 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Anthony Parker scored 20 points and T.J. Ford added 15, including the clinching free throw with 1.9 seconds left. Jason Richardson scored 18 of his 26 points in the first half for the Bobcats. Gerald Wallace scored 20 points and Emeka Okafor had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Charlotte's faint playoff hopes took a hit, thanks to 45-percent shooting against that noisy defense. "If you call out a cross screen, guys are always looking to see where screens are coming and they are no surprises," Bosh said. They won't get stood up by a screen, that's how you get beat backdoor. "If you talk, that makes the offense hesitate, too. If you say you're coming to double, the guy is going to wait on you a little bit, and that kind of stalls them. There are advantages all the way around." The defense helped carry Toronto in a game of large momentum shifts. The Raptors made 17 straight shots in the first quarter, fell behind by 10 in the second, then pulled away in the second half against the Bobcats, who were playing only their second home game in more than three weeks. Richardson's 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left cut Toronto's lead to 103-100. Ford was fouled, and made the second of two free throws, ending Charlotte's chances. "I think it was just the backlash of the West Coast trip," said Wallace of Charlotte's first game following a 3-2 trip that included a win at the Los Angeles Lakers. "Our legs just weren't in it tonight." The weary Bobcats, who had played 10 of their last 11 on the road, were no match for the energetic Bosh. He made 9 of 20 shots and added five assists in 46 minutes. It's what the Raptors need to break out of their doldrums following last season's division title. "He's huge," Richardson said. "He's their leader. He's their superstar. He does a lot of things and had a great game." Notes: Wallace, who has sustained four concussions in four seasons, had no problems after taking a forearm to the throat and hitting his head on teammate Emeka Okafor's knee during Saturday's game. ``He's going to get bumped, he's going to get knocked,'' coach Sam Vincent said. ``It's just how he plays.'' ... F Jamario Moon was back in Toronto's starting lineup after Jason Kapono went scoreless in his place Sunday. Moon scored 15 points and Kapono never got in the game.
