Allen Iverson Buzzer Beater Korver 7 3pt vs Pacers 04/05 NBA Through All-Star games, an MVP award and a trip to the NBA Finals, there was something missing in Allen Iverson's career. A perfect ending. Iverson sank the first buzzer-beating shot of his nine-year career, a 14-footer in overtime, and scored 15 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 106-104 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. "It's a great feeling to hit a shot with no time on the clock," said Iverson, who sank a halfcourt winner for the U.S. Olympic team against Germany in an exhibition game. Iverson is getting used to dramatic shots. He sent a game into overtime in the final seconds earlier this week, then didn't lose confidence against the Pacers even as he struggled with his shot. He played 44 minutes, but went just 5-for-23 from the floor. "I just couldn't get in no type of rhythm," Iverson said. "I couldn't get warm. I couldn't feel my hands the whole game." He was hot when it mattered, though, as Iverson took the ball the length of the court and beat the short-handed Pacers with a shot from just above the free throw line over Eddie Gill. "His shots didn't fall until the last one, and who cares about the others?" coach Jim O'Brien said. Kyle Korver made seven 3-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points, Marc Jackson had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and John Salmons and Corliss Williamson each scored 15 points for the Sixers. Korver capped Philadelphia's furious fourth-quarter comeback with a 3 from the top of the key with 3.6 seconds left, tying it 100-all. "I knew we needed a 3, so I just backed up and took it," Korver said. The win spoiled the return of Indiana's Ron Artest, benched for two games for asking for time off because of his busy schedule -- including producing an R&B album and working on his side career as a rapper. Coach Rick Carlisle said Artest "compromised the integrity of the team." Artest scored 29 points and had a flagrant foul late in the fourth quarter, Jermaine O'Neal had a career-high 39 points, and Stephen Jackson 17 for Indiana. Artest and O'Neal combined for a 24-for-38 effort. "If you try to do the right things, good things happen to you," Artest said. "I think everything happens for a reason. Nobody got hurt. There's a bunch of good people on this team." Artest's return helped offset the absences of center Scot Pollard (sore back), forward Jonathan Bender (viral infection), guard Fred Jones (quad strain) and center John Edwards (personal reasons). With Reggie Miller (hand), Anthony Johnson (hand) and Jeff Foster (hip) also out, the Pacers only had eight players available. In overtime, they were down to five. The Pacers lost O'Neal, who gave the Pacers a 102-100 lead on the first play of OT, when he fouled out after reaching in on Iverson on the next possession. Jamaal Tinsley (10 assists) and David Harrison also fouled out in overtime. Four Pacers starters played at least 40 minutes through regulation while Iverson was the only Sixer to do so. Korver hit three contested 3s and scored 11 points in the fourth to rally Philadelphia from a 17-point deficit in the third quarter. Seldom-used James Jones took the last shot for Indiana in OT, but Artest said he should have had the ball. "We have confidence in all our teammates," Artest said. "If JJ was open, he would have knocked that shot down. I should have took that last shot." While Artest was gone, the Pacers suffered a 102-68 loss Wednesday to the Clippers, the worst home loss in franchise history. But with O'Neal and Artest getting along on the court -- after getting into a locker room shouting match last week -- the Pacers hardly needed anyone else. Artest instantly put the distractions of the past week behind him, tuning out the taunts of the fans to score 16 points in the first half. Korver had the oddest play of the game in the first quarter when he attempted to pass the ball -- it looked like an alley-oop -- to Kenny Thomas, but the pass went in for a 3-pointer. Game notes Sixers G Aaron McKie was placed on the injured list with a strained left rotator cuff. He is expected to miss seven to 10 days. The 76ers also activated guards Kevin Ollie and John Salmons and placed guard Kendrick Brown (low back strain) on injured reserve. F Glenn Robinson remained on the injured list and is in Chicago tending to a family matter. C Samuel Dalembert (hamstring) missed his fourth straight game ... Harrison's dad, Dennis, was a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles. ... The Sixers won consecutive overtime games for the first time since 1993. Allen Iverson 1st ever Buzzer-Beater Team USA vs Germany 2004 Pre-Olympics Game USA co-captain Allen Iverson (Philadelphia 76ers) had never hit a game winning shot in his illustrious playing career until Wednesday night when, with time about out, he dribbled across mid-court and launched a game-wining 40-foot 3-pointer to lift the USA Senior Team (2-1) to an 80-77 victory over Germany (1-1) in front of a sold-out Kolnarena crowd numbering 18,000. "It felt good when it left my hand, I knew it had a chance," said Iverson of his game winner. "I tried to side step him (his defender) just to get a little bit of space and I got a good look at the basket and fortunately it went in. "That was my first buzzer-beater ever," added a smiling Iverson who was mobbed by his USA teammates after making the shot. The Iverson answer was a fitting end to a game that was tight the entire way and one in which NBA All-Star Dirk Nowitzki almost single-handedly kept his country within striking distance. Nowitzki finished the night with a game best 32 points on 13-for-23 shooting overall, while adding 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. In a game in which neither team was able to post more than a a six point advantage, the fourth quarter saw the two teams stay within three points of each other the final 10 minutes. The U.S. entered the fourth quarter trailing 61-60 and was behind 65-63 with 8:40 to play when Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets) scored five consecutive points to spark the Americans to a 68-65 lead with 8:00 to play. Germany forward and former UNC player Ademola Okulaja made a three to tie the game at 68, and with 5:40 to go, Lamar Odom (Los Angeles Lakers) scored off a pass from Anthony to put the US up 70-68. Germany scored the game's next four points to move ahead 72-70 with 3:30 showing on the clock, but the USA evened the game after Stephon Marbury (New York Knicks) came up with a critical steal at mid-court, then found Anthony on the break for a layup with 1:57 left. Iverson, in a preview of what was to come, swished a 3-pointer a blink before the shot clock expired to give the US a 75-72 lead with 1:18 remaining. The suspense continued and with 35 ticks left in the game, Nowitzki was fouled on a 3-point attempt and the Dallas Mavericks star made two of the three free throws to close the gap to a single point, 75-74. Having committed just two fouls in the final quarter, Germany was forced to foul to get into the bonus and made three quick fouls before finally sending Anthony to the line to shoot two with 12.4 showing on the clock. Despite the roar of the frenzied, partisan crowd, Anthony calmly made both free throws to increase the USA lead to 77-74. But Nowitzki had one more shot in him and pulling up at the top of the key, he watched his 3-pointer fall cleanly through with 3.8 seconds left to tie the contest 77-77. Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs) then inbounded the ball to Iverson around the foul line and Iverson dribbled right, took a dribble across halfcourt and launched his first game winner. The US offensive effort was headed by Duncan who finished with another impressive all-around effort, scoring a US high 19 points and grabbing a team best nine rebounds. Anthony added 16 points, and Iverson finished with 15. All12 U.S. players scored in the contest. "It was a great basketball game. Germany played very well and any time you have a Dirk Nowitzki on an opposing team you have a very tough opponent," stated U.S. mentor Larry Brown. "I think our players really got a lot out of these two games (against Italy on Aug. 3 and Germany Aug. 4). We made a lot of improvement from the game last night, but we have a long, long way to go. I think playing the last two nights is hopefully going to help us as this trip goes along." The United States will return to the court Friday night in a game against 2002 World Champion Serbia and Montenegro in Belgrade. Friday night's game will be televised by ESPN at 7 p.m. (EDT). The USA senior men opened their training on July 26 at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., and are pending the 20 days leading up to the start of the 2004 Athens Olympic basketball competition training in Jacksonville; Cologne; Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro; and Istanbul, Turkey, and will play a total of six exhibition games. Following the game in Belgrade, the USA Senior National Team will conclude its tour in Istanbul, Turkey. Facing Turkey on Sunday, Aug. 8 in an ABC live nationally televised game (2 p.m. EDT), ESPN will show the Aug. 10 (1 p.m. EDT), USA-Turkey game live. Allen Iverson 29pts clutch shot buzzer beater vs Spurs NBA Practice? Allen Iverson didn't need any of it to score 29 points and lead the Denver Nuggets past the San Antonio Spurs 80-77 Thursday night. Iverson revealed after the game that the reason he had missed all of the Nuggets' workouts this week was because his 4-year-old son, Isaiah, fell face-first from a stool early Monday morning and required plastic surgery. "He got a big gash up under his mouth," Iverson said. "He was sitting on a stool and what really messed him up was he had his hands in his shirt. And it was a high stool, so when he fell, he couldn't brace it. So he just (smacked the floor)." Iverson said it was a bloody scene but the toughest part was watching his young son sedated for surgery, "and I was just mentally out of it, man." Iverson said his son will have to undergo a series of procedures over the next week but that he's back to being his usual rambunctious self -- which took a load off Iverson's shoulders, allowing him to concentrate for a few hours on beating the defending NBA champions who knocked the Nuggets out of the playoffs last year. "I mean, when he's around the house screaming and yelling like he usually does, then I'm pretty sure he'll be all right," Iverson said. "That was my biggest thing once he started acting like himself again. He's real loud, man." While Iverson was doing the dirty work offensively, the Nuggets' big men -- Kenyon Martin, Marcus Camby, Nene and Eduardo Najera -- throttled Tim Duncan, who scored 20 points but missed 13 of 20 shots and turned the ball over four times, including a crucial one in the closing seconds. Anthony Carter, whose 3-pointer pulled the Nuggets to 77-76, stripped Duncan, then fed Martin at the other end for the bucket that gave the Nuggets a 78-77 lead with 45 seconds left. "He made big plays," Iverson said of Carter. "Everybody talks about 'Melo and myself when it comes to this team, but so many other guys can do things." "I had a rough shooting day up until that point," said Martin, who was 1-for-7 before his big basket but had a career-high seven blocks, none bigger than his last. After he put the Nuggets ahead, Martin, who had missed four of five games since straining his right hamstring last month, rejected Tony Parker at the other end, and Iverson sank two free throws with 6.6 seconds left. After a timeout, Martin had one more defensive gem in him, altering Michael Finley's desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have tied it. "Kenyon switched out onto Michael and made it a real difficult shot," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "It was a good read by Kenyon to switch. Otherwise, Michael would have been open in the corner." Finley finished with 18 points. Duncan and Parker each had 20. The Spurs were without Manu Ginobili (finger) for the fourth straight game, and they sorely missed his offense along with Duncan's usual shooting touch. "They were very physical and I expect that from Denver. I thought they played it the right way. It was frustrating," Duncan said. "A lot of extra fouls here and there. But it wasn't that. It came down to us turning the ball over in rotations. A lot of it down the stretch was my fault. I'll take a lot of responsibility for it." Duncan missed 14 of his first 18 shots but banked one in, sank a layup and made one underneath to give the Spurs a 75-73 lead with 2 1/2 minutes remaining. Still, he was kicking himself for two late turnovers. The Nuggets' point total was a low for the season, as was their opponents'. But for once, it was the Nuggets who seized control down the stretch, improving to 3-8 in games they fail to score 100 points. Carmelo Anthony, who scored 17 points, said the Nuggets' emphasis on defense is finally paying off, and his coach, George Karl, agreed. "We beat a very good team in their type of game," Karl said. "Defensively, we're actually stronger than offensively right now. It's strange to say, but ... that's good, because the foundation of specialness usually is at Notes Martin's previous career high for blocks was six, most recently at Chicago on April 11, 2003. ... G DerMarr Johnson, who played the past three seasons in Denver, returned with the Spurs and scored two points. ... Camby pulled down 18 boards, the 10th time he's recorded at least 18 rebounds this season. The Nuggets are 7-3 in those games. He also scored his 7,000th career point. LeBron deep 3pt buzzer beater - 39 points vs Chicago MVP! March 6 2008 (this is why LeBron is MVP: http://kb24overrated.com/2008_mvp_race_kobe_vs_lebron) CHICAGO -- LeBron James was at it again. Then, the Bulls swarmed him. Ben Gordon and Luol Deng scored 23 points apiece, and Chicago overcame James' 39 to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-96 Thursday night. The Bulls went on a 17-point run early in the third quarter to grab a 66-53 lead, and Gordon scored nine straight during a 51-second burst late in the period to make it a 17-point game. That was enough to give Chicago back-to-back wins for the first time since late December and offset another strong effort by James. "So much has happened during the season, but we've got to stick with it and keep playing," Deng said. "It's all about a rhythm." James certainly had it early on. Cleveland's superstar made it look easy while scoring 26 in the first half, after stealing the show in New York the previous night with 50 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds during a 119-105 victory -- a performance that left the crowd chanting "MVP!" He hit 13 of 27 shots overall but was just 3-of-12 in the second half. The Bulls attributed the drop-off to a tighter defense, and although James acknowledged they were "a little more aggressive," he also said, "I took shots that I know I can make, but I missed." Compounding matters was the fact that his teammates weren't converting. "We've got to dig down deep and find out who we want to be," coach Mike Brown said. "Play 110 to 115 on the road and win sometimes and look pretty winning? Or do we want to be a playoff team that's going to go far in the playoffs and have a chance to compete for an NBA championship? Get ugly and dirty sometimes by getting stops first and figure out how to score second. It's very concerning for me right now." The Cavaliers got 15 points from Devin Brown and 14 from Wally Szczerbiak, but that wasn't enough to overcome Chicago's balance. Former Bull Ben Wallace had a quiet night. He finished with two points and 10 rebounds in his first appearance at the United Center and second against Chicago since being traded to Cleveland for Larry Hughes and Drew Gooden in a three-team deal. And he got outplayed by rookie Joakim Noah, who grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds while scoring 13 points. "I had some great experiences here," said Wallace, who reportedly clashed with Noah. "Unfortunately, things didn't work out this season like we would have liked to, but now I'm OK." The Bulls outscored the Cavaliers 34-16 in the third quarter with Gordon, Deng and Hughes leading the way. Deng had eight in the period, while Hughes scored seven of his 12 during that 17-point run. Gordon did his damage during a 51-second stretch late in the quarter, scoring nine to turn an eight-point lead into an 80-63 advantage and sending the Bulls to their second straight win. That matches a season-high, but extending it to three straight will be tough, considering they visit Boston on Friday. "We are starting to figure out our strengths and weaknesses," said Kirk Hinrich, who scored six points. "We are starting to get some momentum and this is a big win."
