BIBLE GAMES - review by the Angry Video Game Nerd Episode #17 CHRISTMAS, 2006 SPECIAL! One of the longest episodes to date. ScrewAttack had to release it in two parts, because of their video player. But it was always meant to be one. Episodes #18 and #19 was the two part movie review of TMNT 3. It was the only review by the Nerd that is classified in the Angry Video Game Nerd series. It was hinted at a new "Angry MOVIE Nerd series", but it never stuck. I got a deal with GameTrailers.com to continue the Angry Video Game Nerd exclusively and my hands got too full to do many more movie reviews, so I just started to concentrate on the Angry VIDEO GAME Nerd instead. Unfortunately, both parts of the TMNT 3 video were deleted on YouTube. So follow the links below: TMNT 3 movie: Part 1 http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=33466700 TMNT 3 movie: Part 2 http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=33468189 AngryVGnerd.com myspace.com/thenintendonerd Tags: Bible games NES SNES angry video game nerd noah moses jesus christmas howard stern |

CBR for Game AI Google Tech Talks April, 3 2008 ABSTRACT Computer games are an increasingly popular application for Artificial Intelligence (AI) research, and conversely AI is an increasingly popular selling point for commercial games. Although games are typically associated with entertainment applications, there are many "serious" applications of gaming, including military, corporate, and advertising applications. There are also what the so called "humane" gaming applications—interactive tools for medical training, educational games, and games that reflect social consciousness or advocate for a cause. Game AI is the effort of taking computer games beyond scripted interactions, however complex, into the arena of truly interactive systems that are responsive, adaptive, and intelligent. Such systems learn about the player(s) during game play, adapt their own behaviors beyond the pre-programmed set provided by the game author, and interactively develop and provide a richer experience to the player(s). In this brown bag, I will discuss a range of CBR approaches for Game AI. I will discuss differences and similarities between character-level AI (in embedded NPCs, for example) and game-level AI (in the drama manager or game director, for example). I will explain why the AI must reason at multiple levels, including reactive, tactical, strategic, rhetorical, and meta, and propose a CBR architecture that lets us design and coordinate real-time AIs operating asynchronously at all these levels. I will conclude with a brief discussion on the very idea of Game AI: is it feasible? realistic? and would we call it "intelligence" if we could implement all this stuff? Speaker: Dr. Ashwin Ram Dr. Ashwin Ram is an Associate Professor and Director of the Cognitive Computing Lab in the College of Computing at Georgia Tech, an Associate Professor of Cognitive Science, and an Adjunct Professor in Psychology at Georgia Tech and in MathCS at Emory University. He received his PhD from Yale University in 1989, his MS from University of Illinois in 1984, and his BTech from IIT Delhi in 1982. He has published 2 books and over 100 scientific articles in international forums. He is a founder of Enkia Corporation which provides AI software for information assurance and decision support. Bill Guschwan: A History of Video Game Development Google Tech Talks May 14, 2008 ABSTRACT Video games are a product of software and hardware advances. This presentation will feature the works of Ken Kutaragi of Sony as a major figure in the history of the video game. Ken Kutaragi invented key parts of the PlayStation after creating the sound chip for the Nintendo NES. Like others in the Japanese computer industry he is interested in the affective experience of people with technology. His latest achievement with Sony was the PlayStation 3 which features his Emotion Engine which is a microchip with 9 coprocessors. ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Bill Guschwan graduated from Notre Dame and moved on to Apple with some colleagues. He was on the founding team for Quicktime, where he wrote technical articles and created the first Quicktime sample movie. He was then on the founding team at 3DO, and moved on to Sony where he was the main technical liaison for the PlayStation in the US. He worked for Ken Kutaragi in 1995 in Japan at the Sony headquarters. Currently, he works in the interactive arts and media department at Columbia College, is the resident juggler for the WNBA's Chicago Sky, is a Pilates instructor at Ultimate Fitness in Evanston, and enjoys dancing, drumming and philosophy in his spare time. Bill will use various PlayStation software and hardware examples to show how the technology advances are directly related to a change in the affective experience of the player. He will also draw parallels in other platforms such as the use of Apple's QuickTime data compression in the Macintosh's Myst, John Carmack's elegant 3d calculation design in the PC's Doom, and Miyamoto's innovative synced sound in the Mario games on the Nintendo. Finally Bill will speculate on why the PS3, despite superior hardware capable of supporting advanced game design, has been challenged by the XBox and especially the Nintendo Wii. EVOLUTION FROM ALLGAMES.COM NOTES: This was produced in January 2006 for game developer DAVID PERRY. It had to be two minutes and thirty seconds long, for an audience of non-gamers, and was to show what games might look like 5 years from now. Thus why some pre-rendered PS3 videos, and cut scenes were used. As for why there is no RPG collection, we thought about starting with Zork text and evolving but realized for a non gamer audience it wouldn't be easy to quickly explain role playing in a few clips. We will be doing a series of these in the future, check back. A short trip through the evolution of video games. From pixel to polygons, atari to HD, this is a visual ride through various video game genres as they evolved with new technology and talent from game developers. The clip was produced for a presentation made by game developer David Perry at the prestigious TED Conference in Marin County. www.ted.com Tags: video games 8-bit sega dreamcast nintendo intellivision 3D0 Xbox PS2 |

Classic Game Room HD - VIDEO OLYMPICS for Atari 2600 review Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of VIDEO OLYPICS for the Atari 2600 Video Computer System. Produced just in time for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing China, Video Olympics has the spirits of the Olypia of years past all wrapped up into one convenient Atari cartridge. Lurking deep within Video Olypics is basically 10 different versions of PONG. Sure they may use fancy names like Quadrapong and Ice Hockey, Soccery and Volleyball... but it's basically pong. You watched the footage of the different events in the massive Chinese stadium like swimming, gymnastics and track and field... but does that really get you into the action like Video Olympics does? Who won the gold medal in rings... who won the silver in high jumping... what country won the bronze in the 50 meter dash...? I don't know. But I do know that when you play pong you're a winner. Watch the news for up to the minute.. nay, up to the second covereage of the 2K8 olympics in China, but watch your Atari 2600 for up to the second covereage of what's going on in your Atari 2600 Video Olympics! Who knew the Ancient Greeks were on to this? Classic Game Room was the original classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999-2000, now on DVD. The reviews on the HD series are reviewing PS3, PS2, Genesis, NES, Atari and Xbox 360.
