Bad Commercial Access - Disconnect on Condenser Unit Panel I see very little hackery since I'm no longer doing residential. But I still find some stuff on commercial that is crappy and should not have passed a REAL city inspection! In this case a 16Lb 600 volt 3 phase discconect mounted onto the small corner access panel on a condenser unit. It makes it a real pain to remove and replace the access panel and to not break or damage the high voltage wires hanging from it. Interesting climb to a Hoshizaki Remote Condenser I had a bad condenser motor on a Hoshizaki ice machine remote condenser. But where was the remote condenser at this OLD movie theater? It was up at the very top of this goofy circular center area. About 4 floors high in all. But what is crazy is you have to climb three seperate suicide ladders to get up there and walk through a maze of "junk yard parts" on the way. Not to be confused with some of my videos of UNSAFE ROOFTOPS that I absolutely HATE and find dangerous, I actually thought this place was sort of cool in a way. Condenser Unit Fan Noise-Solved by replacing fan blade. Any idea why this condenser fan and/or motor gets so noisy when it gets wet? PROBLEM SOLVED: The problem turned out to be the fan blade. Nordyne had changed the replacement part from a 2-blade fan to a 3-blade fan. Not sure why the original part got noisy when wet, but speculate the slight weight of water on the blade surface made the blades go into resonance. I put a 3-blade fan in and the noise is gone. Steam Condenser It's getting cold and dark outside, so I've got to rig something for indoor running. I don't wish to stink up the house with oily steam exhaust, nor raise humidity levels around my electronics, so the old evaporator is out. This design was inspired by rangerssteamtoys. While it works, I think I am going to retool it, reducing the coil count somewhat. I also need to add in a trap between it and the engine to collect the oil, so I don't clog up my coil over time.
