Fantasy Journal I: Episode 2 Final Fantasy I: Episode 2 ---Super Special Awesome Rescue! Hello Journal, If you haven't guessed, this is Kaito here. You may be wondering why I'm writing in Jenkin's journal. Well, ever since those idiots on that charter cruise I bought lost our luggage - and by extension our own journals - we've been forced to share with Mr. Swordy-pants here, who predictably isn't too happy with that arrangement. Hell, even Denbo complained, which was saying something since she's usually so timid about these sort of things. It's a good thing thing I keep Hibel around to whack those two, or we would never have anything done. Anyways, we've come to Cornelia. Like Jenkin already said, I'm looking for some bling to steal. The problem is that those bling are behind locked doors! Can you imagine that? Locked doors! What's next? Keys unique to a specific lock? Oh please. Moving on. I was about to suggest sneaking around the grounds, but then that moron Jenkin has to ruin it all by charging right into the castle straight to the throne room. Then that King had to go give us a quest, which Denbo was all too willing to accept. I swear, you can't stop that goody-two-shoes from anything heroic. I even asked Hibel for help, but he just told me I'm on my own. Nice assist. So then we buy some stuff to replace our gear. All the while the guys were glaring at me. Come on, it's not my fault I lost our luggage, even though I'm the one that rented that small shabby, rickety thing they dared called a ship to ferry us across the sea. Alright maybe I hold part of the blame, but come on! A few ass-kickings later, and we find ourselves in front of a creepy castle thing. We've been here before, of course, looting all the rooms, but Denbo got too freaked out by the zombies and fainted, and we had to go back to town. But here we are now, ready to wipe the floor with that asshole Garland. We entered the room and TRIED to sneak up on him. I said 'tried' of course because you can't really say that Jenking was really sneaking. Even with all those creaking and clancking from Jenkin's armor, we still managed to surprise Garland. Either he was very deaf, or very busy, though we're leaning on the latter cause his face was a bit red from what we can see of it. The princess was laying unconscious behind Garland. The whole thing stinks of something I'd rather not ask about... And then we fought. And Garland died. THIS is Cornelia's best?! The only one wounded was Jenkin and that was a friggin little cut on his pinky finger! Wow, the Cornelian military must be a bunch of pansies then. A squad of babies would be enough to conquer the kingdom. Anyways, now that Garland is dead, the princess conveniently decided to wake up and thank us. Then she teleported us right into the throne room. There was much jubilation, while we were off to the side wondering why she hadn't used that ability to escape her captor. The King was grateful for the rescue, but he still wouldn't give us even a coin of gil. Instead, he gave us a prophesy by a loon called Lukan or something. Oh and that bridge he'd promised us. I tried asking the princess if she wanted to give us a reward of her own, but all she gave us was a lute and a sultry look at Denbo. Anonymous on ZDF heute journal - 14.04.2008 This is a report about the Anonymous vs. Scientology protests on the 12th of April 2008 in Berlin, Germany. Translation: It all started with a video circulating on the internet, in which Tom Cruise comments on Scientology. What he says and how he says it is very exposing, so Scientology critics say. Some even say his appearance seems nuts. Anyway, the Scientology organization tries to get the video out of the internet. To no avail, as you will find it through google in no time. More interesting though is what Scientology provoked with their attempts to delete. Now the organization has a internet community on their heels, which is offended by the censorship and reacts radically! A group of hackers declared war on scientology. And they also work with criminal practices. They call themselves Anonymous - a youth movement that arose from it and which does not only act virtually but also in real life. Stephanie Gargosch tells us more about it: It started like a guerilla war on the net, triggered by an internal Scientology promotional video starring Tom Cruise, who talks unchecked about Scientology. The video leaked to the internet somehow in early January. Scientology demanded the removal. Rightly. But the cyberorganisation Anonymous had a different view, they were offended by the interference as censorship. In public, the so called "Anons" masquerade as the comic hero "V", who fights with radical methods against a totalitarian regime, agenda for Anonymous. They communicate Worldwide via blogs or chats, a movement without structure and uncontrollable. Anonymous: "The biggest part of Anonymous are probably mostly young people, between 20 and 30, i guess. There is no head and there is no leader. Everybody is equal, everybody can take part, everybody is allowed to take part." And since the beginning of the year, Anonymous concentrated its focused force on Scientology, announced their destruction with a tinny computer voice. "Hello Leaders of Scientology, we are Anonymous! Over the years we have been watching you ... Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed ... for the good of mankind and for our own enjoyment." Attacks on email addresses, phones and websites of Scientology followed, in a matter of hours callers and radical hackers bring them down. Scientology speaks of internet terrorism. Sabine Weber (Scientology spokesperson): "It has definitely criminal qualities, harassing phone calls, harassing emails, about 900 harassing emails with virus and so on. Only just to bring down our systems." Anonymous stands to its militant attacks but changes its tactics. Over the internet they call for worldwide protests in front of the Scientology centers and the shy bloggers actually break free from their computers. Always hiding behind their masks. The police in Berlin allowed this, due to possible personal attacks by Scientology. The Anons, even on the street, united by one goal. Anonymous: "The goal of Anonymous actually is to ban the church everywhere on the planet. That's why all Anons are protesting today at their respective time to achieve exactly this." An internet group from the shadows experiences the power of the net and the fun of protests. And this may, so observers think, may stay like this in future. Gerald Himmelein (reporter for a magazine): "If one would recommend a different target to Anonymous, which promises to deliver similar fun, Anonymous maybe turn against this target." Company co-founder V.I. Manuel told the Business Journal there's major interest in the revival of the Goose, with inquiries (but no firm orders) coming from Malaysia to Alaska. Manuel said vintage Gooses are much sought after and in short supply. The new Goose will look like the old one but will benefit from 60 years of technological advancement. Purists can order their Goose with 450-hp Pratt and Whitney R-95 radials, but if they really want it on the step in a hurry, a pair of PT-6s with 680 shp can also be mounted. The new aircraft makes use of carbon fiber for enhanced corrosion resistance and, of course, there's a full array of electronics on board (no glass panels, though). Daily Journal, July 5 - Arrival In Juneau This video was recorded just outside of Manilla Square in downtown Juneau. We spent the better part of the late afternoon and evening walking around and being touristy like the rest of the cruise ship drop-offs. Although we were in an area known well for its seafood, we enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner that evening. It was a very long day of travel, starting with our flight from Detroit to Minneapolis at about 6am, then an immediate connecting flight to Seattle, and eventually an Alaska Air flight into Juneau. Rorschach discovers a far wider-ranging conspiracy involving his colleagues' past which could completely change the course of history. Watchmen Cast * Patrick Wilson as Daniel Dreiberg / Nite Owl II: A retired vigilante superhero with technological experience. John Cusack, a fan of the comic book, expressed interest in the role. Wilson did not read the comic until he was offered the part, and loved it. Wilson put on weight to play the character, instead of wearing a fatsuit. * Jackie Earle Haley as Walter Kovacs / Rorschach: A superhero who continues his vigilante activities after they are outlawed. He was transformed over time from a "soft" costumed hero into a killer who sees the world in black and white. Haley and fourteen friends put together his audition, where he performed scenes from the comic. Haley "almost went nuts" trying to reconcile his understanding of complex human behavior with Rorschach's moral absolutism, stating the character made him wonder if people generally just make excuses for their bad actions. Rorschach wears a mask with ink blots that morph to reflect his emotions: motion capture markers were put on the contours of Earle Haley's blank mask, for animators to create his ever-changing expressions. Haley found the mask "incredibly motivating for the character" because of its confining design, which heated up quickly. Small holes were made in the mask for him to see. * Malin Akerman as Laurie Juspeczyk / Silk Spectre II: A retired vigilante superheroine. Akerman described her character as the psychology and the emotion of the film due to being the only woman among the men. The actress worked out and trained to fight for her portrayal of the crimefighter. * Billy Crudup as Dr. Jon Osterman / Doctor Manhattan: A superhero with genuine powers who works for the U.S. government. The role was once pursued by actor Keanu Reeves, but the actor abandoned his pursuit when the studio held up the project over budget concerns. He later visited the set while filming The Day the Earth Stood Still, an experience which he enjoyed. As well as playing Osterman in flashback as a human, for his post-accident scenes as Dr. Manhattan, Crudup is replaced in the film with a motion-capture CG version of himself. During filming on set, Crudup acted opposite his co-stars, wearing a white suit covered in blue LEDs, so he would give off an otherworldly glow in real life, just as the computer-generated Manhattan does in the movie. Crudup had to keep thinking of the character in the comic, because he felt ridiculous in the suit. * Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt / Ozymandias: A retired vigilante superhero who has since made his identity public. The role of Ozymandias was originally connected to actors Jude Law and Tom Cruise, but they left the project behind due to the studio's delay in handling the budget. Goode was not familiar with the comic when he was cast, and read it at the urging of his friends. He joined the critical consensus, saying "it's the best graphic novel out there". He had his own interpretation of Veidt's backstory, in that he gave up his family's wealth and travelled the world, becoming a self-made man because he was ashamed of his parents' Nazi past. Goode suggested Veidt disguised his German accent to highlight the themes of the American Dream and the difference between one's public and private personas. * Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Edward Blake / The Comedian: A vigilante superhero who is commissioned by the U.S. government. Prior to Morgan's casting, producers Lawrence Gordon and Lloyd Levin met with Ron Perlman to discuss portraying the Comedian. Morgan found the role a challenge, explaining, "For some reason, in reading the novel, you don't hate this guy even though he does things that are unmentionable. The Checkmates - Black Pearl - My Tribute This is my Tribute to Sweet Louie & Sonny Charles The Checkmates. Back in the 80's I use to photography of the Checkmates. These photos were shot in the Addison Lounge in the Rampart Casino March 9, 2007. December 15, 2007 Marvin "Sweet Louie" Smith, one half of the R&B duo the Checkmates, has died. He was 68. Smith died Saturday of a heart attack aboard the Caribbean Princess cruise ship in the Caribbean, where he was scheduled to perform, said his agent, Mike Moloney. Smith's musical partner, Sonny Charles, a friend since childhood in Fort Wayne, Indiana, found Smith in his cabin before they were to rehearse for a show that evening, Moloney said. "His name was really fitting," said fellow Las Vegas entertainer and close friend, Nelson Sardelli, 73. "He was really a sweet guy, a generous guy and was loved and will be missed by many." Smith died Saturday aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean, where he was performing. Smith's counterpart was Sonny Charles, a friend since childhood in Fort Wayne, Ind. He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was too heartbroken to say much. But he said Smith spent some of his last moments doing what had brought him the most joy: performing. The act took off in 1964, when the Checkmates started performing at the Pussycat A Go Go, located on what is now the site of the Wynn Las Vegas resort. The group went on to perform at the Sands and Caesars Palace. The duo's best-known recordings include Love is All I Have to Give and a remake of Proud Mary. But 1969's Phil Spector-produced Black Pearl was their most successful single, a Top 10 hit. Smith, a longtime Las Vegas resident, was key to the Checkmates' popularity as a live act, Moloney said. "He was just one of those guys when you walked in the room, he brought a smile to your face," Moloney said. "I never saw him down." Smith was a contemporary of some of the greatest performers of all time, including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Bill Cosby, Moloney said. "As a historical reference, Las Vegas was the first place in the world where every night was Saturday night," Moloney said. "Louie kind of coined that phrase. No matter what night it was, it was Saturday night when the Checkmates were there." Some of the duo's highlights included performing with Sinatra at the Oakland Coliseum, a concert at Madison Square Garden with Herb Alpert and singing the national anthem for the "Thrilla in Manila," the Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier heavyweight championship boxing match in the Philippines.
