Huge Cubs/Sox Crosstown Classic Brawl 6/28/08 The Sox fan on the far side near the pole was talking trash from the beginning, so in the 4th inning he gets into it with another Sox fan when he starts talking about the guy in the Thome Jersey's "family"...then an old guy steps up and off they go... A good minute goes by with no security, the guy gets owned by a bunch of cubs and sox fans. he still fights the security...continues struggling, as his eye is black and bleeding, they handcuff him throw his shirt over his head and get him out of there. It happened in section 536 at the Cell... According to a ChicagoSports.com article: Doesn't sound like the brawling in the stands at Saturday's Cubs-White Sox game had much to do with Cubs against the Sox. According to Tom Lamb, head of security at U.S. Cellular Field, the Sox don't know what precipitated the brawl, but apparently some money fell out of the purse of a woman, and another fan picked it up and refused to give it back. That led to several fans punching the alleged offender. Video of the action showed a Cubs fan joining in on the same side as some White Sox fans. The man, Brian Nolan of Woodridge, was charged with theft and taken to district headquarters at 35th and Lowe Avenue and then to the First District lockup, according to a police source. He was released Saturday night on an I-bond. "He got thumped pretty good," Lamb said. "He did admit that he picked up the money that fell out of the purse, and said he didn't have to give it back." Actually, the cause of the fight may have been more personal than money. At least that's what it says at BustedCoverage.com. *sorry for the shakiness, there was a lot of pushing everywhere Tags: Cubs White Sox Brawl Baseball Fight Crosstown Classic Drunk Sports Handcuffed bloody chicago |

Lee Elia Tirade - Chicago Cubs - 4/29/83 LEE ELIA TIRADE Elia's outburst occurred on April 29, 1983, after the Cubs suffered a one-run home loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The rant took place during a postgame session with reporters in his office. Elia was pissed off at the continual booing by the Wrigley crowd (both during and after the game) and frustrated that no one could see beyond the Cubs' 5-14 record for any of the progress he felt the team was making. The fact that Elia's rant has been preserved for posterity is something of a miracle. In the early 80s, "baseball reporters didn't work with tape recorders. But radio guys certainly did. So it was that Elia's outburst came to be a part of the public domain." Les Grobstein, aka "ubiquitous" Les, was lurking on the edges of Elia's office, with tape rolling. For Grobstein, graduate of Chicago's Von Stuben High School, "it was his Zapruder moment." Elia commented that he dearly wished Grobstein "had gotten a flat tire on his way to Wrigley that afternoon." Elia clearly regrets his ourburst. "I made some comments that I don't even know how they came out of my mouth, because they were not comments that I normally would make. Never in my wildest dreams did I think somebody would run out of there and put it on the air." 1983 turned out to be Elia's final year as the Cubs' manager. Many have argued that Grobstein's tape sealed upper management's decision to fire Elia. Grobstein heartily disagrees. He commented recently that "the tirade and my tape did not get Lee Elia fired - the team starting to suck again did." Whatever the case, the tirade is now 25 years old, solidly entrenched in the firmament of baseball lore...and is TOTALLY AWESOME. Enjoy. Cute white lion cubs form part of breeding programme Four white lion cubs are forming part of an extensive white lion breeding program underway at a South African Park. For centuries rumours of mysterious white lions circulated in South Africa. Claims of sightings of the white lion started to surface in 1928. Scattered reports continued but confirmation that these animals were really white did not come until 1975 when a litter containing two white cubs was seen at Timbavati Game Reserve, adjacent to Kruger National Park. Several lions still survive from the original strain, all in captivity, and the breeding of white lions in various zoos around the world must be handled very carefully. www.itnsource.com Reuters 12074/04 Tags: itnsource animals lions cubs babies sweet cute adorable small endangered white |

MET'S PLAYER HECKLING FAN: CHICAGO CUBS 2008 GAME 20: New York Mets pitcher Joe Smith having some fun with the left field bleacher fans heckling them right back. He said something like "I am a major league player in the show and you are not". He also starts off my saying, "You ain't SH----T." The announcer(narrator) of the video is very good similar to the announcer who says the catch phase, "Boom Goes the Dynamite". The narrator has been asked to some WWF work too. Cubs won 8-1 on 4-22-08, I guess the bleacher fan had the last laugh. Tags: chicago cubs ballhawk woo wrigleyville wrigley go bartman field fukudome baseball bleachers bum |

Marty Brennaman rips Cubs fans Obnoxious?! I'll give you obnoxious ... Perhaps you haven't heard yet, but Cincinnati Reds announcer Marty Brennaman had some choice words about me and my Cubs fan brethren after a group of them ... hilariously, I might add ... tossed a flurry of baseballs onto the field following an Adam Dunn home run during Wednesday's game. A number of hurtful charges were levied. I have spent the past hour shaking my fists, punching walls and scarfing down hot dogs in blind rage. But now that I have composed myself, I feel prepared to respond. "This is the kind of thing quite honestly, right now, that makes you want to see this Chicago Cubs team lose." What, a well-executed practical joke that delayed the game maybe an extra minute or two (also known as the time it takes Paul Konerko to go from first third)? Shouldn't you save your righteous indignation for when we REALLY get out of hand and make with the garbage tossing and animal sacrifices? Brennaman's rant was WAY out of proportion with the deed in question and likely a byproduct of the fact that his team was being whipped handily on the day in question. As for wanting to see the Cubs lose ... they're your division rivals, shouldn't you want to see them lose? Is that why the Reds have done so poorly in recent years? Have they been losing to the Brewers on purpose because their fans are so nice and cuddly? "Far and away the most obnoxious fans in baseball in this league." That's right! Number one baby! Brennaman declines to ponder whether or not the Cubs might be more obnoxious than the Red Sox or Yankee fans over in the American League. (Note: Brennaman seems to equate "obnoxious" with "best attended teams, home and away, in baseball"). Perhaps if we had trouble filling up our brand-spanking-new ballpark, we would be more tolerable, eh old boy? Now, I don't want to be overly harsh here. My mother hails from the fair city of Cincinnati. I think Graeter's ice cream and Skyline chili are both delicious taste treats. I rode my first roller-coaster at King's Island. But don't you think this whole "obnoxious" rant might be coming from a little residual bitterness about having been completely irrelevant for the past decade or so? "They won't win [the division], because at the end of the day they still are the Chicago Cubs." I'm sorry? Who were we when we won the division last year? The Bears? The Chicago Double-Secret White Sox? The Chicago Fighting Obnoxious Unicorn Fairy Princesses? We all know the Cubs have a historically spectacular propensity for losing. But they've still had three, count 'em, THREE playoff appearances since the Reds last showed up at the party in 1995. To put that in historical perspective, the Reds have not been in the playoffs since Coolio and "Gangsta's Paradise" ruled the pop charts. Poor Michelle Pfeiffer, how WILL she reach those inner-city youths? Yes, I'm well aware of the Big Red Machine and even the 1990 Reds that featured Chris Sabo, Jose Rijo, Rob Dibble and ... LOU PINIELLA!! (Could that be the source of all the bitterness?) But we live in a "what have you done for me lately" society, and lately the Reds haven't done much. So, Marty, we can understand the frustration with us big, mean, obnoxious, ticket-purchasing, team-supporting Cubs fans. The nerve of us. "Anyone who blames a goat, for that long of losing. That's silly." Oh no he didn't! NO. HE. DID. NOT. He just went "goat" on us, y'all. Dropped the g-bomb. Why do you have to go there Marty? It's painful enough living with myself and my obnoxiousness. Now you go and bring the goat into it? I've said it before, I'll say it again. Anyone who sincerely believes a goat has anything to do with the Cubs losing is not a real Cubs fan. First of all, the alleged goat incident happened in 1945. The Cubs were already well into their dubious streak at that point. Second of all ... IT'S A GOAT. So you and I agree there, Marty. It is silly to blame a goat. Which is why we don't. The goat saga is perpetuated primarily by outsiders like yourself who like to portray us as completely insane. Which we are. But that's not the reason. I mean, this is the kind of thing, quite honestly, that makes me not like all Reds announcers, because quite frankly, they are crusty old bullies. Name calling isn't so much fun when it comes back at you, is it Marty? Now if you'll excuse me, I have to drive to Marty Brennaman's house, pelt it with numerous baseballs, urinate in his bushes, vomit on his front steps, set a bag of doggy business aflame on top of said vomit, and then bleach a Cubs logo into his front lawn. I'm a Cubs fan. We just don't know any better. Panda Cubs On A Slide Several Panda cubs at play on their playground equipment @ Wolong Reserve near Chengdu, China. This clip only shows a very small part of the Wolong Reserve breeding complex, and the cubs have plenty of space to roam and lots of trees to climb. Plus, this footage was shot just after the snows had melted and it had been raining, hence the muddy & dank look of the place, so don't go posting comments that the places look really crappy and the pandas are being treated badly, because you don't know how detailed the whole breeding complex is in total, unless you have been there. Saturday's health exam allowed Zoo staff to get their first up-close look at the triplets, and officially document that Leanne is a proud mom to three boys. During the first exam, the Zoo's veterinary staff checked the cubs' general health and weighed the trio. The biggest of the cubs weighs 4.8 pounds, with the two other siblings weighing 4.2 pounds each. In a few weeks the three boys will receive their vaccinations, similar to shots given to domestic kittens. The unnamed cubs will not be on exhibit for several months while they continue to nurse, gain strength and coordination. The cubs' father, George, can be seen at the Zoo's big cat grotto exhibits. "I was happy to see that all three boys have big bellies, indicating they are very well fed and cared for by their mom," said Jacqueline Jencek, DVM, chief of veterinary services at the San Francisco Zoo. Leanne, a 230-pound Sumatran tiger, has been caring for her three cubs since giving birth on March 6. The following day, the Zoo's veterinary and animal care staff visually confirmed the presence of at least one tiger cub through a video and audio monitoring system. A few days later, the staff confirmed two additional cubs when they inspected the nest box after Leanne momentarily left the birthing den for a drink of water. "After the second day of monitoring we were certain we had more than one cub, but we didn't want to disrupt Leanne and the maternal bond she was displaying," said Jencek. "Leanne has been excellent at tending to her litter and she has managed to keep them hidden from our camera, which had made it difficult for us to determine how many cubs really were in the nest box." This remains as a very critical period for mom and her cubs, the Zoo's veterinary staff has been very impressed with Leanne's motherly instincts. Through their daily video observations, staff has noted mom's behavior to be attentive and gentle. The mortality rate of Sumatran cubs in the wild and in captivity is between 30 and 40 percent, and is higher with first-time mothers. Leanne and George are part of the Zoo's breeding program for the purpose of increasing the genetic diversity of the Sumatran tiger population in zoos through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Tiger Species Survival Plan. This is the first litter for the 5-year-old mom and 10-year-old dad. There are more than 200 Sumatran tigers living in zoos around the world. The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is the smallest of the tiger species. Sumatran tigers are critically endangered species, with an estimated 400 to 500 animals living in the wild, predominantly in national parks found on the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
