Imperishable Night - Lunatic Level 1 [Perfect] Me clearing level 1 of Imperishable Night on lunatic difficulty level without getting hit or using a bomb. I know I don't clear the final spell, but it's close enough that I'm counting it! This was the first video I did, so I'm aware it didn't capture the sound from the game (shame too, some sweet music). I'm aware there is some slowdown near the end, the game was played through during 60 FPS, but for some reason my computer (3800+, 2gigs ram, 7800GT) takes a shit when I record the video. Levels of Difficulty in Imperishable Night This is a video showcasing the difficulty differences between the 4 available options(easy, normal, hard, lunatic) in Imperishable Night. Touhou 8: Imperishable Night - Stage 1, Easy Stage 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqcSe207VC8 Yes, easy. I have problems playing the game on Normal, but I storm through most of easy, and I didn't want to play hours just to get a good run -_- Anyway... I'm using Reimu and Yukari. They have homing bullets, a small hitbox and longer reaction time for a deathbomb. Stage one is very easy... the boss is also easy... seriously, I don't have anything to say about it :/ Oh, and the last boss is a SHE! Just like every other character in the whole series. ...Oh, and on easy this boss doesn't have a Last Spell card :( --- Q: What is Touhou? A: Touhou is a series of mainly curtain fire (also known as bullet hell) shooting games. Q: Curtain fire? A: Just look at the amounts of bullets coming out of enemies at the later stages or the harder difficulties... Q: How do you dodge all of that?? A: Well your hitbox is very, very small. A lot smaller then the character sprite! When I'm a youkai (the other character) you can see a small white dot on her. That's the hitbox. Q: Wow. It must be easy then, right? A: No! Q: Why THIS Touhou game, and not another? A: I just like it the most! This game is generally one of the easier ones. It's also the only one to have Last Spell's, and those things can be a life saviour. You also get to continue from where you got killed, and not from the beginning of the stage, though if the Time gauge reaches 5 am it's Game Over. Q: What's a spell card? A: When you get a bosses (white) HP bar down they will fire a spell card. Each spell card if different and generally has a pattern that you have to use to not get killed. You can win by getting the boss' (red) HP bar down, or by surviving for an amount of time. Killing him will give more points and is usually faster. You also have spell cards in the form of "bombs" that you can fire to clear the screen of enemies and bullets and damage bosses. Q: OK, and what's a Last Spell? A: A Last spell is something bosses fire at the end of the battle. They become immortal and you get your bombs blocked. You have to dodge everything. If you get hit even once the spell card ends. You don't lose a life it you got hit, but also don't get bonus points. Since they are immortal, you can't kill them so you just have to wait out the spell card. Notice that they get a ring around themselves that closes in on them. As a player you also have Last Spell card. If you get hit, there's a short windows of time (varying based on different circumstances) in which you can fire a Last Spell. It will take 2 bomb power ups and you'll lose time orbs, but you won't lose a life, and the bomb will be a lot stronger. Q: Time orbs? A: This game has time. You start at 11:00 pm. You have to complete the game before 5:00 pm. Time is added after you continue, beat a stage or get hit by one of the final boss' Last Spell cards. Time Orbs are worth points, and if you have enough, the time increases by 30 minutes, and not by a full hour once you beet the stage. Q: You didn't tell what's Grazing yet. A: Not a question. Anyway, Grazing is something non-human characters can do. If you get a enemy bullet to touch the ring around your character, but not the hitbox, then you "grazed" the bullet, and will get bonus points for it. This is key to high score runs, because you want to graze as much bullets as you can, you generally let bosses live, and kill them in the last second to get a kill bonus. Touhou 08 - Imperishable Night Stage 4 Powerful Practice This is the B route on Lunatic difficulty in Boss Replay mode (fast forwards throughs the normal enemies) which takes you against Marisa Kirisame. (The game has two different stage 4 bosses, and if you use Marisa's team, then you fight against Reimu, one of the characters in the team I'm using) This was just a practice run to unlock Marisa's Last Spell. Not that good of a run, but it shows what playing Touhou games (and danmaku in general) is like. Will likely be replaced as I improve the replay. This video covers from the end of Yukari's second spell card to the end of the stage. Not a pretty run by any means (I die in really silly places, bomb a lot, and purposefully blow borders to give myself breathing room), but then again I was just going for survival. I'm not nearly as good as Dracil or others who have uploaded videos, but at the same time there was no Phantasm video up here, so I figured I would fill the void. Touhou 7 Perfect Cherry Blossom Reimu A Phantasm Clear (1/2) Fresh from my little foray into Lunatic difficulty, I finally managed to unlock Phantasm with the spellcards I captured. Now, I'm no GIL, nor am I Dracil, but I wanted to see just how far I could go against Ran's boss, Yukari Yakumo... And boy, was she tough. It took me about 3 tries to finally defeat her, and that's without conciously capturing spellcards (too busy trying to stay alive to bother). Anyway, without further ado, the run where I finally defeated Sukima. Not perfect, but hey, I could always try capturing those spellcards again on later runs. Touhou 6 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Extra Clear A clear of EoSD Extra stage that I am very, very happy with. Could have bombed more aggressively on the last spell card and scored significantly higher in end stage bonuses, but I care far more about card capturing and survival than score. The video stops before the score counter finishes counting up. My final score is actually 171084130.
