9/11 WTC 3D Simulation Use of Explosives 9/11 WTC 3D Simulation. This models the use of explosives to bring down the WTC. Essentially this model concrete is much weaker than the WTC since i omitted steel the core columns. Unlike a normal demolition whereby they knock out the bottom supports and let the building cave in on itself, this is a top down demolition, which is some what abnormal in the demolition world. In this model we have top down detonations where by the charges are detonated at the top of the building first and then downwards from there. This can be achieved in a few different ways (with different types of explosives). In this mode we are not simulating hundreds of explosives, in fact we are modelling approx 8-10 different large explosions planted approx 20 floors spacing in between each detonation.
