Due to the overwhelming response for our music, we've gone on to write seven more original songs. The songs will feature the Total Experience Gospel Choir, a host of other talented musicians and is being co-produced and played on by Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam. Available at www.bergevinbrothersmusic.com "Why Obama?" Three brothers share their story. In December 2007, when Barack Obama came to Seattle, Joe Bergevin and his family went to listen to him speak. At one point, Joe's daughter Chloe broke through the rope line and stood in front of the Senator. He commented on her, saying, "Come on up honey, it's OK, you can come up here." While she (being 1 year old) declined, Joe shook hands with Barack after the event, and commented to him, "I think you're going to get the job done." Barack replied to Joe, "With your help I will, with your help." At that moment, Joe felt he had been charged with a challenge, and started to think of how he could apply his skills to the task of helping get Barack Obama elected. Within a few weeks, Joe was watching the video feed online of Barack Obama and Oprah together on stage and inspiration set in. That day, Obama told a story about one person, Edith Childs, who energized others with a "fired up, ready to go," chant at one of his campaign stops. Inspired by Obama's "One voice can change the world" speech, Joe wrote some lyrics and rough chords that same day, then called his brother Jon to help him finish and arrange the song. The song is named after Edith's chant. After many phone calls, emails, and sleepless nights, they had assembled the team. Ten days later an epic recording was born with the intention of spreading Obama's hopeful message. Contributors include lead singer Reverend Pat Wright and her renowned Total Experience Gospel Choir, drummer Matt Cameron from Pearl Jam, lead singer Jake Bergevin, other top studio musicians, sound engineers, video teams, photographers, caterers, local news teams and a renovated theater with recording studio. From the first word written to the last note performed, this entirely donated and collective effort demonstrates Senator Obama's unifying message and Americans' desire to act on it. We were in awe of how freely people said, "Yes!" to this project. His words "For that is our unyielding faith-that in the face of impossible odds, people who love their country, can change it" demonstrate that great leaders motivate others. Barack is a great leader. "I would have never imagined participating in an event like this, suddenly having a bunch of people come together on behalf of a political candidate; contributing immediately, so fully and unconditionally," said Stephan Schier, one of the project contributors. Edith Childs said in the Greenwood Index Journal "I just had no idea that something done spontaneously would go this far -- in a good way," Childs said. "But as far as the song, I think it's cool. And I'm going to go online and see the (music) video when it comes out. But look, I did (the chant) in June, and I had no idea this is where we'd be on January 25." Soldier fire 'rubber' bullet at Palestinian detainee 20 July '08: B'Tselem: Prosecute soldier who fired 'rubber' bullet at Palestinian detainee, Investigate the involvement of an officer in the event and suspected cover-up Today, B'Tselem is publishing a video clip documenting a soldier firing a rubber coated steel bullet, from extremely close range, at a cuffed and blindfolded Palestinian detainee. The shooting took place in the presence of a lieutenant colonel, who was holing the Palestinian's arm when the shot was fired. The incident took place on 7 July, in Nil'in, a village in the West Bank. A Palestinian demonstrator, Ashraf Abu Rahma, 27, was stopped by soldiers, who cuffed and blindfolded him for about thirty minutes, during which time, according to Abu-Rahma, they beat him. Afterwards, a group of soldiers and border policemen led him to an army jeep. The video clip shows a soldier aim his weapon at the demonstrator's legs, from about 1.5 meters away, and fire a rubber coated steel bullet at him. Abu-Rahma stated that the bullet hit his left toe, received treatment from an army medic, and released by the soldiers. A fourteen-year-old Palestinian girl from Nil'in filmed the incident from her house in the village, and B'Tselem received it this morning. B'Tselem does not know if any proceedings were opened against those involved. However, residents of Ni'lin told B'Tselem that they saw the soldier the following day, still serving in his unit. B'Tselem immediately forwarded a copy to the Military Police Investigation Unit commander, with demand that an immediate Military Police investigation be opened, if it hasn't already, and that the soldier be brought to justice. Additionally, B'Tselem demanded that the involvement of the lieutenant colonel who was holding the detainee is investigated. DeVille - Lead Guitar, Vocals Bret Michaels - Lead Vocals, Guitar Rikki Rocket - Drums ----- In late 1982, an ad in the local newspaper prompted guitarist Matt Smith to join singer Bret Michaels, drummer Rikki Rockett (the two met one day when Rikki, a hairdresser, came to Bret's house to cut his sister's hair) and bassist Bobby Dall. After writing several songs and playing local shows, they changed their name from Paris to Poison. In March of 1984, the unsigned band moved from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California in hopes of making it big. Guitarist Matt Smith decided to leave the band, but he agreed to help find a new guitarist. After over a hundred applicants, the band chose C.C. DeVille (over Slash, of Guns N Roses fame, interestingly enough), and the current lineup was born. Interestingly, their real names are: Bret Michael Sychak (Bret Michaels), Alan Ream (Rikki Rockett), Bruce Anthony Johannesson (C.C. DeVille), and Harry Kuykendall (Bobby Dall). After playing LA clubs for a few years, the band was finally signed by Enigma Records, where they recorded their debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In, in only 12 days for only $23,000. To almost everyone's surprise, the record spawned 3 top 10 hits; I Want Action, Talk Dirty to Me, and I Won't Forget You. After touring with bands like Cinderella and Ratt and selling over 2 million copies of their album, the band went back to LA to record their follow-up smash hit, Open Up and Say... Ahh! This album outsold the first by millions, selling 5 million in the US alone. Hits off this album included Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Fallen Angel, Nothing But a Good Time, and the cover tune, Your Mama Don't Dance. After a tour which included former Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth, the band went back to record their third album. In July of 1990, Poison released Flesh & Blood. Hits included the energetic Unskinny Bop, the sentimental Something To Believe In, the rockin' Ride the Wind, and the slow tune Life Goes On. After a worldwide tour which was recorded, the band released their fourth album, Swallow This Live. This two CD set included all their major hits live plus 4 new studio tracks. Unfortunately, after the release of Swallow This Live, guitarist C.C. DeVille was fired from the band. He has since revealed that the reason for his departure was a drug and alcohol problem which he has since overcome. To replace C.C. at guitar, however, the band hired guitar whiz Richie Kotzen. The result was an excellent bluesy album called Native Tongue. Despite the amazing music on this disc, it didn't do well commercially because of the drastic change in image and sound. Soon after the tour to support Native Tongue, Richie Kotzen was fired from the band due to personal conflicts. The next guitarist to fill C.C.'s shoes was another guitar whiz, Blues Saracino. With Blues, Poison recorded another excellent disc, Crack a Smile. However, due to problems with the record company, this album was shelved until its 2000 release as Crack a Smile and More!. Instead of releasing Crack a Smile, Capitol Records decided to release a Greatest Hits disc to commemorate the band's 10 years of success. The result was Poison's Greatest Hits 1986-1996. In addition to all their greatest hits, this album also included two new songs which were originally meant for Crack a Smile: Sexual Thing and Lay Your Body Down. Unfortunately, this album didn't get enough of a budget for the band to release any new singles or videos. But it did go platinum. C.C. DeVille rejoined Poison right before the release of the greatest hits collection. The band hit the road for a summer '99 tour, recorded the tour, and released a live album with five new studio tracks in June of 2000 called Power to the People. Woman arrested for DWI, beat by police off camera A police officer has been fired after an incident in which a female prisoner, who was taken into custody on suspicion of DWI, wound up lying on the police station floor in a pool of blood. Much of what happened was recorded on a videotape, but there is a gap of undetermined length. During that time, the woman was believed to have been injured.
