At Orenmore in the County Galway, One pleasant evening in the month of May, I spied a damsel, she was young and handsome Her beauty fairly took my breath away. She was a founding member and vocalist of De Dannan, an Irish folk music group. Other founding members were: Frankie Gavin (fiddle), Alec Finn (guitar, bouzouki), Johnny "Ringo" McDonagh (bodhran) and Charlie Piggott (banjo). The self-titled debut album Dé Danann appeared in 1975. Dolores left to marry John Faulkner in 1977. They were both multi-instrumentalists. Dolores played concertina, flute, whistle, hurdy gurdy and bodhran. The anthology "A Woman's Heart" (1992), with three songs by Dolores Keane, was one of the most popular folk anthologies of the nineties. Keane is a Traveller and was born in Caherlistrane, County Galway, Ireland. She is a sister of musician Seán Keane. Her aunts Rita and Sara Keane are also singers. Ueli Gegenschatz Galway Bay Wingsuit Flight Watch in HD http://vimeo.com/1122166 World renowned Swiss wingsuit flyer Ueli 'Sputnik' Gegenschatz, who recently base jumped from the world famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, travelled to the west coast of Ireland over the Bank Holiday weekend to compete a unique project. 'Sputnik' flew unaided a distance of 17.6kms, which is the longest recorded flight distance in a wingsuit ever undertaken, gliding from above the edge of Inis Mor over Galway Bay to Connemara regional airport near Inverin in Co Galway. Sputnik also beat the flight time of the Aer Arann Islander passenger aircraft, which travels this route daily in seven minutes, by a full 75 seconds. In order to complete the distance, 'Sputnik' needed to exit his skydiving aircraft at an altitude of 4,500 metres. He flew across the Atlantic waters at a glide ratio of 1:4 metres travelling at an average speed of 250km/hr with the aid of a strong tailwind. The passenger aircraft, with a top speed of 193km/hr, took off from Inis Mor airstrip cruising at an altitude of 200 metres as 'Sputnik' exited his aircraft high above the island. 'Sputnik' released his parachute 200 metres above the mainland before touching down on the runway at Connemara Regional Airport clocking a time of 5 mins 45 sec. "I was fortunate to have very strong tailwinds on the day which increased my chances of making the long distance. It enabled me to reach an average speed of 250km/hr and make the crossing. I was happy not to land in the ocean as I've heard the Irish waters are very cold!" "Sputnik" has been on a global quest to find the most challenging terrains of the world to traverse in his specially designed wingsuit. His adventures have brought him to The Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps, Popocatepetl, the second highest peak in Mexico and now to the Aran Islands on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. Using a Garmin GPS tracking device on his wrist, Sputnik transmitted data back to his laptop on the ground which calculated his top speed and average speed during the race. IRLANDA: Roundtrip Dublin-Galway (Video) Da giovedì 26 agosto a giovedì 2 settembre 2004 ho fatto un viaggio in Irlanda, con i miei amici, visitando principalmente Dublin e Galway, ma passando per luoghi incantevoli, con colori incredibili, e atmosfere da sogno! Un viaggio assai interessante, tutto da leggere! La giusta compagnia, l'occasione di un volo Low-Cost, prenotato on-the-run, sul marciapiede sotto casa di uno di noi, con un PC portatile, e via che si va alla scoperta del fantastico mondo irlandese. Dublino, Howth, Galway, Cliffs of Mohers, questi sono i nomi degli splendidi luoghi toccati durante il nostro viaggio. Paesaggi incredibili, cielo praticamente sempre azzurro, un mare cristallino, città con una grande storia alle spalle, mille attrazioni interessanti, e una natura selvaggia davvero ammaliante! L'atmosfera che si respira in città è sempre festaiola, allegra, spensierata, anche se per noi italiani, il tenore di vita irlandese è davvero alto. Mentre la campagna è davvero incredibile, enormi distese di prati verdi, animali liberi, pecore, capre, cavalli, mucche, tutti allo stato brado... Chilometriche coste a picco sul mare, il vento nei capelli, strade su e giù per colline e promontori, e tanta tranquillità. In tutto questo contesto si cala il nostro gruppo, decisamente ben amalgamato, e soprattutto carico di uno spirito d'avventura infinito! Questi dunque sono gli ingredienti di un viaggio mozzafiato, che non si dimentica certo, ma soprattutto un viaggio tutto da leggere e da vedere immergendosi tutto d'un fiato tra le righe del reportage, e tra le immagini dell'album fotografico e dei video!
