King Kora Gambia Tour 2007 Part I Our born-to-be-legendary 2weeks tour on the river Gambia with concerts in Sanyang, Georgetown, Basse Santa Su, Bansang, Kuntaur, Sukuta, Kololi and in our favourite place: Bundung. The 40 people of our "extended band family" we were driving around 50 miles every day on two boats up and down the river. In the afternoons we arrived in the villages of our destination. After greeting the Alkali, the Chief of town, our technical crew tried to setup our PA in front of a big Baobab or in one of the youth centers. They tried and they succeded everytime, somehow, but they were very tired at the end of the tour. Gambia National Anthem The Gambia gained its independence from the UK in 1965. Geographically surrounded by Senegal, it formed a short-lived federation of Senegambia between 1982 and 1989. In 1991 the two nations signed a friendship and cooperation treaty, but tensions have flared up intermittently since then. Yahya A. J. J. JAMMEH led a military coup in 1994 that overthrew the president and banned political activity. A new constitution and presidential elections in 1996, followed by parliamentary balloting in 1997, completed a nominal return to civilian rule.
