puff the magic dragon, pianowaristed by eLi gARF iThink thisis asong aboutHope LOVE andPeace butnot THEother. sorry about too many embellishments. it is really a simple, folk-like tune, but the piano takes me to other worlds... from wikipedia: "Puff, the Magic Dragon" is a song written by Leonard Lipton and Peter Yarrow and made popular by the group Peter, Paul and Mary in a 1963 recording. The lyrics for "Puff" were based on a 1959 poem by Leonard Lipton, a nineteen-year-old Cornell student. Lipton was inspired by an Ogden Nash poem titled "Custard the Dragon," about a "Really-O, Truly-O, little pet dragon." Lipton passed his poem on to friend and fellow Cornell student Peter Yarrow, who created music and more lyrics to make the poem into the song. In 1961, Yarrow joined Paul Stookey and Mary Travers to form Peter, Paul and Mary. The group incorporated the song into their live performances before recording it in 1962. The movement uses the chorale melody Werde munter, mein Gemüthe. The melody was not composed by Bach, as is often assumed, but by Johann Schop; Bach harmonized Schop's melody. the original piece was written for a trumpet, an oboe, an organ and strings, but transcribed for piano by Dame Myra Hess (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myra_Hess). Schubert Impromptu Op. 90, #3 - pianowaristed by eLi gARF this is the third of four Impromptus written by Franz Schubert in about 1827, about a year before Schubert died at the age of 31. according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impromptus_(Schubert): No. 3 in G-flat major The third of the Op. 90 Impromptus, in G-flat major, is characterised by the sustained contrast of relatively slow, stationary themes with the constant rapid movement of broken triads in the middle registers. The piece exploits this contrast in order to establish the paradoxical impression of being both simplistic and complex, static and dynamic, beautiful and brutish -- all at the same time. It is perhaps because of this Janus-like duplicity, along with its easily accessible melodies and the high level of technical proficiency required for performance, that the piece was featured prominently in the 1997 film Gattaca -- with slight modifications, of course, which rendered it unplayable by a ten fingers. Though written in G-flat major, it was long transposed to and printed in G major (a much simpler key).
