Dumb Phoenix Builders! - Plastic on Return Grills = ICE! The video gets better as it goes, so be sure to watch the entire thing! This is in Phoenix, AZ and further proves my point about the "Blind leading the Blind" problem in this area where many contractors, installers, etc are simply not trained before they are set free to run wild in the land lacking PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS! Today I was back to further P.M. some rooftop A/C's and I found a group of Roof Top Units iced up SOLID form lack of air flow. I went downstairs (which is actually the 2nd floor) and couldn't believe what these guys had donein an area where they were doing T.I. work (Tenant Improvement in a corporate office building). They were doing drywall in this suite and decided to cover some of the supply and return grills so they did not get drywall material on them while attempting to operate these units in cooling. I talked to the contractor to tell him that the units iced up form the lack of air flow and he assured me that they cut "slits" into the plastic so that air would flow but that they had to have the plastic on to protect the grills. LOL I had a hard time not laughing as I told him that they require 100% unrestricted airflow, or to leave them OFF if they are covering any grills! The first video of the plastic wrapped grills was with my camera phone while the workers were still around. Then later in the video are clips taken with the better Kodak Camera after the workers left. :) After that I included two BONUS video clips in the same building. Enjoy!
