ARLO GUTHRIE Arlo Guthrie was born with a guitar in one hand and a harmonica in the other, in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York in 1947. He is the eldest son of America's most beloved singer/writer/philosopher Woody Guthrie and Marjorie Mazia Guthrie, a professional dancer with the Martha Graham Company and founder of The Committee to Combat Huntington's Disease. He grew up surrounded by dancers and musicians: Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman and Lee Hays (The Weavers), Leadbelly, Cisco Houston, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, all of whom were significant influences on Arlo's musical career. Guthrie gave his first public performance at age 13 and quickly became involved in the music that was shaping the world during the 1960s. Tags: THE MOTORCYCLE SONG |

Roll on Columbia: Woody Guthrie In spring 1941, the cusp of the Great Depression and Pearl Harbor, a 28 year old, unemployed Dust Bowl balladeer, Woodrow Wilson Guthrie took a one month, temporary job with the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) on the Columbia River. The BPA needed a folksinger to promote the benefits of building dams to produce cheap electricity. Guthrie, and his wife and 3 kids needed the paycheck. He wrote 26 songs in 30 days - classics like Roll on Columbia and Pastures of Plenty. This documentary is the story of the most prolific moment in Guthrie's extraordinary career. Arlo Guthrie - Coming Into Los Angeles - Woodstock 1969 BTW: I've signed up for one of these "Complete an offer and get a few people to do the same and get an iPhone" thingys, not sure if they work, but it would be good if people can do the same... http://apple.real-incentives.com/40461 if I do get an iPhone, I will (firstly be amazed) report back, and thank people. Right, moving on: Yup, ANOTHER Woodstock clip, showing the heavy use of drugs and alcohol... Amazingly, there were only 3 reported deaths at the festive, and only ONE of them were drug related! Don't you just feel we live in a paranoid world now? Tags: Arlo Guthrie Coming into los angeles woodstock 1969 69 hippy drugs marijuana cannabis booze alcohol op-ezy iphone free |
