[AZ]Before Ofc. Hamlet killed wife he should have been FIRED 2/15 6:12 pm Jeffrey Hamlet, a Maricopa County Detention Officer, admitted to police he killed his wife... Police found Hamlet's wife, Katherine, 52, in a bedroom, dead and wrapped in a blanket. After telling officers he had ingested rat poison and bleach, Hamlet was taken to a local hospital. While officers were checking the house, they came across a note 'stating something along the lines of what the son saw and continuing with I'm going to hell and you are going to heaven'... They also found a blue steel bar that Hamlet had wrapped in padding and cotton socks to strike his wife in the head... Hamlet told officers he 'continued to hit his wife until he knew she was dead'. Police say Hamlet 'admitted that he intentionally killed his wife first, because he stated that she would not be able to take care of herself if he died and she did not'.... he was booked on charges of first-degree murder... Hamlet's been in trouble with the law several times in recent years... Hamlet's been in trouble with the law several times in recent years. After being written up for missing work in 2005, Hamlet told deputies he was depressed after one of his sons committed suicide in 2004. In February 2006, police were called to Hamlet's home for a domestic violence call. Katherine told officers her husband had been drinking and started an argument. During the fight, Hamlet broke three lamps after throwing them on the floor. A month later, one of Hamlet's son called police because he was concerned about his father's mental health. When officers arrived, Katherine Hamlet told officers that two days prior she locked herself in a room after she and her husband got into an argument. She said Hamlet then tired to pry the door open with a switch blade. In May 2007, Hamlet was arrested for an outstanding warrant after officers were again called out to his home for a domestic violence call. He was placed on paid adminstrative leave at the Sheriff's office. After their investigaton, the department suspended Hamlet for a week without pay. Japanese Village, Hamlet & Neighborhood The Japanese village is a very old unit of community with true origins extending well into pre-history. However, during the long and peaceful Edo period (1600-1868) the government of the Tokugawa Shoguns established a very well defined system of national and local communities which included defined hamlets (ooaza or ri), villages (mura), counties (gun) and fiefs which were controlled by regional samurai leaders called Daimyo (literally "big names"). Hamlets were further divided into smaller communities of associated homes called "buraku" which might be thought of as neighborhoods, though this English term falls short of capturing the true depth and association of this particular type of Japanese community. The buraku unit of community was never officially recognized by the Edo government and represents a natural community subdivision reflective of the social character of the Japanese people. The residents of Buraku may trace their lineage to a common ancestor, though intermarriage within the Buraku is uncommon with wives typically being brought in from nearby communities. Buraku in the past were sometimes organized around a leading family who often passed this role from one generation to the next. These leading families were sometimes the households of former samurai who were reduced to becoming farmers after their side lost during the wars of consolidation leading up to the start of the Edo period. These families are today often still prominent within the small communities of rural Japan. After the end of the Edo period the government under the leadership of the Meiji emperor re-organized the old feudal territories and effectively redrew the administrative map of Japan. One of the most extensive changes was the consolidation of nearly seventy thousand Edo-era villages (mura) into just fourteen thousand modern villages. The new villages were much larger than the old and included previously disparate communities. These larger village units are still in place today though the change has not caused the consolidated communities (at least those in the countryside) to merge in any non-civic way and most of the hamlets and buraku in Japan retain their original local character and unique sense of identity. Hamlet This is, in my humble opinion, the best Hamlet released on screen. It was made in 1980 by the BBC and starred Derek Jacobi as the Prince of Denmark... "This simple production boasts one of the finest collection of Shakespearean actors ever assembled, and every time I see it I come away thinking that acting doesn't get much better. [...] Jacobi's Prince of Denmark is a complex and embittered intellectual, whose occasional bursts of love, faith and even fury are transformed within an instant into weary skepticism. His first resort in any dilemma is to let fire with irony on his nearest and dearest. In a way, though hardly 'innovative' - too many actors seem desperated to find (or invent) something wholly new in this too famous character - Jacobi is giving us a very postmodern, almost 'deconstructed' Hamlet - attractive, sensitive, even high-minded on the surface, but underneath a man whose sanity and even noble intentions are ultimately untrustworthy. The more I see this version of the play, the more I think the Ghost to be a lying goblin damned, or even a trick of Hamlet's fantasy, and Hamlet himself more scourge than minister. "It hath made me mad" Hamlet cries, staring at his own two abusive hands in the nunnery scene - a reading of the line which makes more sense to me than any other I have heard. And still we'd forgive this Hamlet anything, wouldn't we? Patrick Stewart portrays a Claudius wholly up to the challenge of overturning Hamlet's world. No lecherous drunkard he, as in many productions, but the capable CEO of the troubled state of Denmark. Hamlet underestimates him all the way. That Stewart happens to be blessed with one of the finest dramatic voices around underscores this Claudius' capacity to woo both Queen and Court. In fact, this Claudius is so dangerous that Hamlet's famous inaction becomes a reasonable reaction to circumstances, and it is no surprise when his only remaining option is direct, and tragic, action. Claire Bloom is the most beautiful, regal and sympathetic Gertrude I've ever seen. Hamlet misjudges her, too, if he thinks this woman is too old for passion. She is also a queen worth killing for, making Patrick Stewart's job that much easier." Hamlet Act III, Scene I (clip) From the "Great Scenes from Shakespeare" series, this "Hamlet" video portrays one of the most famous scenes in all Shakespearean tragedy and, indeed, in all literature. It's Hamlet: Act III, Scene I, which includes Hamlet's famous "To be, or not to be" soliloquy, as well as his encounter with Ophelia in which he tells her, "Get thee to a nunnery." The Great Scenes series, in which actors perform in authentic period costumes on stages patterned after Elizabethan theaters, brings to life the atmosphere and themes of the larger play. Produced by Seaboume Enterprises, Ltd. 8 minutes, color. direct link to purchase the DVD: http://www.phoenixlearninggroup.com/Products/VideoDetail.aspx?id=a024e423-e41e-4e0d-96a4-b5de667e4fce&sub=&cat= Tags: Hamlet Act Three Scene One Great Scenes From Shakespeare literature drama tragedy phoenix learning group |

Hamlet 87 ... a little night music an actor prepares... evening time in the Caves of India, my new favorite home, Ellora, inspired by my new family and friends and pre Christian Temple Caves. My exploration of Hamlet takes on a new level of commitment as I am incorporating my love of singing...opening my heart and creating a space to explore Hamlets' agonizing soliloquy in a fresh way. I hope you are enjoying this experiment. I do appreciate ALL of your emails and comments and my dream is to play Hamlet on Stage and do creative character work in film. Robert Downey Jr., you ROCK. Congrats on your well deserved HIT...IRON MAN. Some of my other favorite IRISH actors include Kenneth Branagh, Daniel Day Lewis, George Clooney, Liam Neeson, John Wayne and Peter O'Toole. Pirates of Hamlet Another one of my language arts project. This is based off of one of the reading sections of "Hamlet" (Act IV, scene vi). Anyways...this is what it is about: A letter is sent from Hamlet to his friend, Horatio, and a sailor serves as a messenger and gives the letter to Horatio. In the letter, Hamlet notifies Horatio that he was captured by pirates. Horatio quietly ponders on this and this is his thoughts: Hamlet and his companion see the pirates' ship, and they board on their ship by swinging on ropes. Then, there is a showdown between the pirates and them. Hamlet's companion dies, while Hamlet gets captured as a prisoner. Hamlet sneaks off, and he gets chased by the pirates, and at the end, he dives off of their ship (i know, it looks messed up but oh well...). Then, Horatio finally snaps from his pondering thoughts and orders the sailors to quickly go to the king and queen, since in the letter, Hamlet asked him to do so, because the sailors have letters for the king and queen, as well.
