The Waimea Canyon was referred to by Mark Twain as 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific', a massive gorge which has been carved out of the volcanic landscape by the Waimea River.From a Victorian style station there is the narrow-gauge Sugar Cane Train which travels through the once prolific sugar plantations of Kaanapali.Haleakale is the world's largest dormant volcano with a crater as large as Manhattan. Αν είσαι σπίτι, τότε ετοιμάσου για Χαβάη. Πάμε κάπου που δεν έχουμε πάει μόνο μη μείνουμε άλλο σπίτι. Τρέξιμο, λογαριασμοί και δουλειά, άγχος, ακρίβεια, χρέη, δανεικά, πάντοτε συνωστισμός μεσ΄ το τραμ και πάντα εκεί το κινητό χτυπά. Να μαγειρέψεις το πρωί, ν΄απλώσεις ό,τι έχει πλυθεί, να σιδερώσεις, να μαζέψεις, να σκουπίσεις πριν να΄ρθει. Μετά να πάμε στη λαϊκή κι έπειτα ΟΤΕ,νερό ,ΔΕΗ για να πληρώσω-give me a break! Θέλω στην παραλία ν΄ανάψω φωτιά, κολύμπι ωρών στα ρηχά ή στα βαθιά. Θέλω να μαυρίσω και να μείνω έτσι πάντα, με τον Enrique Iglesias να χορέψω labanda. N΄αρπάξω το μικρόφωνο από μία μπάντα και να φωνάξω "Θεέ μου αμήν". Λοιπόν έλα, στη μηχανή ανέβα. Πάμε Χαβάη με μία ρόδα. Πήρα θαλάσσιο στρώμα, δυο-τρία μαγιό ακόμα, μπρατσάκια και πετσέτες μ΄ ωραίο χρώμα. Άμα θες έχω και βατραχοπέδιλα ακόμα, με 30 δείκτη προστασίας κρέμα για το σώμα. Δεν ξέρω ακριβώς τι άλλο θα πρέπει να πάρω αφού έμεινα μ΄ άδεια τσέπη. Σταματώ και στην τράπεζα να δω αν έχει λεφτά μα ξέχασα το pin! Θωμά είσαι σπίτι; Γιατί σε παίρνω και μιλάει. Αν τελικά θα πάμε στη Χαβάη, τότε πάρε λεφτά απ' το σπίτι. Ναι, Θωμά είσαι σπίτι; Γιατί σε παίρνω και μιλάει. Αν τελικά θα πάμε στη Χαβάη πάρε κι εσύ λεφτά απ' το σπίτι. Israel IZ Kamakawiwo'ole White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i You are the heart of Hawai`i Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was bigger than life, his music reaching out to Hawaiians encouraging them to take pride in their heritage and to love and understand everyone. He was a huge man whose larger spirit wrestled with his giant physical form, and finally escaped at the age of 38, when he died on June 26, 1997. IZ, whose parents were born on Ni'ihau, traveled throughout Hawai'i, singing about the land and the people. Though it was difficult for IZ to move during the last months of his life, he carried oxygen to keep himself going and checked in and out of the hospital between engagements. While he was resting, he communicated with his fans worldwide through his own iz.com web site and email. Each time he regained energy, Israel came out again to pack auditoriums with fans who treasured every last live performance and often sang along with him-a chorus that would fill a cathedral. Israel's legacy is his songwriting, his recordings and his spirit, which remains with people of all ages, whom he touched with music, humor and a grace uncommon for such a talented man. As IZ told his fans on his album E Ala E, Ka puna pu'u wai o Hawai'i nei, "You are the heartbeat of Hawai'i."
