Hayseed Hasid Hayseed Hasid Written by Stephen Conn Vocals: Stephen Conn (and guitar) and Jacob Keller Recorded Nov. 2001, The Knitting Factory, NYC Lyrics: Lately there's been trouble, and terror in the skies/ But I am here to tell you, that I ain't one of those guys/ My name is the Hayseed Hasid, and I go from town to town/ And I am not one of those who took the World Trade Center down/ So if you happen to see me/ Walking late at night/ Please try to remember I'm Descended from the Israelites/ Please do not hate me, I do not hate you/ let's all get together and just sing Dianu. (solo) My cousin's name is Milton/ He is quite jolly/ We like to get together/ And sing Zoom-Golly-Golly Zoom-Golly-Golly/ Golly-Golly Zoom/ I hope this song does not cause you to clear out of the room/ If you're full of anger, save it for later/ If you need someone to kick around there's always Ralph Nader/ My name is the Hayseed Hasid, and I go from town to town/ And I am not one of those who took the World Trade Center down. Long Tail Cat I heard someone use the phrase "I was nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs" and this Kenny Loggins song popped into my head. The lyrics are quite whimsical and they make an analogous comparison of a long tail cat near a rocking chair to a hayseed going to town and being wary of the "rock 'n roll girls". To be honest, I'll take my chances with a rock 'n roll girl any day. So what if my tail gets squished. Ouch! It's a catchy tune with a Ragtime feel and a fun "sing along" part towards the end. I'm playing along with a bass and drum track. Enjoy. - Fret Killer Tags: acoustic guitar sing song long tail cat |

His Royal Highness (1932), excerpt 2 http://australianscreen.com.au/titles/his-royal-highness/ Synopsis Tommy Dodds, an unemployed country boy in the city (George Wallace), gets a job as a stagehand in a Melbourne theatre. A rival hits him on the head and Tommy dreams he's the long-lost heir to the throne of Betonia, a kingdom in Europe. He knights his mate Jim (John Dobbie) and makes him head of the army, teaches the ancient prime minister (Clem Milton) to rollerskate, and scandalises the court with his antics, until the rightful heir turns up. Curator's notes This was substantially adapted from one of George Wallace's stage revues, and it gives us a good idea of what they were like, especially in the sequence where he sings, dances and tells stories to the pit (clip one). Wallace was famous for his agility and his falls (usually onto his left ear), but this shows him as an accomplished (comic) tap dancer as well. This was his first film role and director Frank Thring changed little about his act. Wallace's heavy stage make-up is still visible. The film was shot at Thring's film studio inside His Majesty's Theatre in Melbourne, where a lot of the budget was spent creating the elaborate interiors for the court of Betonia. Wallace's performance in the film is a kind of road map of comic techniques that would have been familiar to audiences from the now-ending vaudeville era. Note the tipsy delivery in clip two, which harks back to when Wallace was one half of 'Dinks and Onkus', two stage drunks, an act Wallace formed with Jack Patterson in 1919. Wallace also uses the country hayseed caricature that was familiar to audiences from silent films, but his character is in the city, and suffering the effects of the Depression. He is unemployed in the first scene and unable to afford threepence for a pie. The fantasy of becoming a king of some rich European kingdom was one his audience could identify with and enjoy. The routine in which he commands his footmen to play poker with him (clip three) deserves a place in the classics of Australian screen comedy. This film premiered at the Regent Theatre, South Yarra, Melbourne on 26 August 1932. Its cinema release started three days later at the Hoyts De Luxe Theatre. The film was screened to English audiences as His Loyal Highness. I Love Rock 'n' Roll I Love Rock 'n' Roll by The Strums, Live at Wilberforce College charity show, 15th May 2007, for charity 'Just Giving'. I Love Rock 'n' Roll is a rock and roll song, written in 1975 by Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker of The Arrows, who recorded the first released version. The song was later covered by Joan Jett and Britney Spears, who both had international chart success with their versions of the song. The song was originally recorded and released by the Arrows in 1975 on RAK Records, produced by Mickie Most. This version was first released as a B-side, but was soon flipped to A-side status on a subsequent pressing of the record. Although not a chart hit in its original version as a result of non-existent promotion by the band's label, the song has come to worldwide prominence due to very successful cover versions that have been recorded. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is on the list of top 100 songs of the twentieth century, according to The National Endowment for the Arts. The song was ranked at number 484 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs. Joan Jett saw the Arrows perform "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" on a television show when she was touring England with The Runaways. She first recorded it in 1979 with two of the Sex Pistols: Steve Jones and Paul Cook. This first version was not a hit. In 1982, Jett re-recorded the song, this time with her band, the Blackhearts, and this recording became a U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single for seven weeks, effectively launching Jett's solo career. Its success propelled Jett's I Love Rock 'n' Roll album to number two in the U.S. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll"'s gritty, black-and-white music video received heavy play from the then-young MTV network. In it Jett and the Blackhearts travel to a small, dingy bar and proceed to excite the drunken crowd by performing the song and yelling out its famous chorus. Jett followed "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" up with another cover — her version of Tommy James & the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover" was a top-ten U.S. hit. In March 2005, Q magazine placed Jett's version of the song at number 85 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks. A cover version based on the 1982 recording with The Blackhearts was later recorded to appear in the Playstation 2 video game Guitar Hero. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is the fourth European single released by dance-pop singer Britney Spears from the album Britney during the second quarter of 2002. The song was used in her 2002 movie Crossroads. Spears performs it in a karaoke bar. Spears has publicly admitted the original song to be one of her favorites. Spears listened to The Arrows' original Mickie Most-produced version just before she recorded the song, according to her Jive A&R man Steve Lunt. When promoting the single's release she infamously attributed the hit version of the song to Pat Benatar instead of Jett, although she claims this was a remark made in sarcasm rather than a mistake. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" is an often-covered song, and has been notably recorded by such artists as: Joe Piscopo Hayseed Dixie Five (sampled for "Everybody Get Up") Reverend Run sampled the song for his song "Mind on the Road" on his solo project Distortion. Ghoti Hook Dragon Ash (as "I Love Hip Hop") "Weird Al" Yankovic (parody, as "I Love Rocky Road") Griva (as "I law Myroslaw") The Dresden Dolls In Germany: 1995 - Guildo Horn und Die Orthopädischen Strümpfe - Ich find Schlager toll 2001 - Thomas Gottschalk & Die besorgten Väter - What happened to Rock 'n' Roll Former Premier of Victoria Joan Kirner covered Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", accompanied on guitar by her former health minister David White who actually did play the guitar, for a spoof segment on The Late Show. This song was not covered by AC/DC despite the claims of some P2P networks. Music promoter and presenter of 'The Pod' Steve Oliver, collects cover versions of the song. He regularly posts blogs and bulletins on his myspace pages with progress on this. MARTHA CARSON-SATISFIED Martha Carson (born May 19, 1921 - December 16, 2004) was an American Gospel-Country music singer, most popular in the 1950s. Contents [hide] 1 Biography and career 1.1 Early life and rise to fame 1.2 1950 -- 1959: The height of her career 1.3 1960 -- 2004: Later career 2 Singles 3 References 4 External links [edit] Biography and career [edit] Early life and rise to fame Carson was born Irene Amburgey in Neon, Kentucky (now absorbed into Fleming-Neon). She and her two sisters were spotted by radio barn-dance impresario John Lair and invited to join the cast of the WSB Barn Dance in Atlanta in 1938. The Amburgey sisters were given the fanciful hayseed names of Minnie, Marthie, and Mattie. After Irene Amburgey left the group and teamed with her husband, mandolin player James Carson, in the 1940s, the stage name stuck and she became Martha Carson. The duo performed (with Martha on guitar) as the "Barn Dance Sweethearts". By the time of her divorce from James Carson in 1950, Martha had begun making solo appearances on Knoxville's WNOX radio. However, she couldn't record because the Barn Dance Sweethearts' label, Capitol, had them contracted through 1957 and refused to let her go solo, instead trying to pair her up with other male singers.[1] She began doing session work instead, appearing on The Carlisles' "Too Old to Cut the Mustard" and other recordings by that group of unrelated performers headed by WNOX stalwart Bill Carlisle.[2] [edit] 1950 -- 1959: The height of her career Things began to change after Carson met Fred Rose in Nashville. He helped convince Capitol to let her record alone, and in 1951 she made her solo-single debut with "Satisfied", a gospel song she had written in response to audience disapproval over her divorce. The combination of Carson's powerful alto voice and the song's propulsive handclap backbeat formed one of the blocks on which early rock & roll was built. The song featured backup by Carlisle, Chet Atkins, and Carson's sister, Opal, now known as Jean Chapel. Although the song was not a hit at first, it gained momentum continuously over the next several years.[3] By this time, Carson had written over 24 songs, and toured with Country stars, such as Ferlin Husky, Jimmy Dickens, and Elvis Presley. After their performances, she and Presley sang gospel duets, and he later claimed that she had more influence on his stage style than anyone else.[4] In 1954, she married her second husband, Xavier Crosse, a Pop music promoter. Thanks in part to her husband, Carson was able to acquire a recording contract with RCA Records in 1955, for whom she released her first studio album that same year. By 1955, Carson was living and recording all her work in New York. She had a series of minor hits that included "Journey to the Sky", "This Ole House", and "Saints and Chariot", a combination of two old favorites that Presley later covered in concert. After signing with the William Morris Agency in 1957, Carson and Crosse became full-time residents of New York, and she gained national exposure by appearing on The Steve Allen Show. She moved temporarily away from gospel-oriented music and toward citified country-pop, appearing on Tennessee Ernie Ford's television program and pursuing a style shaped in part by his big, low vocals and pop orchestral arrangements. It was a successful move for a time, but by the late '50s, her star began to wane. [5] [edit] 1960 -- 2004: Later career She remained in the music scene during the later 60s and the 70s, writing and performing in Tennessee, but she did not record again until the Starday/Gusto company approached her in 1977, asking her to re-record some of her songs for a Greatest Hits album. Martha agreed, and even recorded some of the new songs she had recently written.[6] In the late 70s, with her two sons grown, she began to devote more time to her love of music, playing many areas of the southern states. Audiences greeted her with great affection. She made appearances on The Ralph Emery Show and The Nashville Network, and one of her songs was featured on an episode of the TV series Fame in 1983. Her comeback was cut short by the untimely illness of her husband, Xavier. She went into retirement to care for him until his death in November 1990. [7] In 2001, Carson was given a big 80th birthday party attended by many well-known Country singers, including Melba Montgomery, Sonny James, Kitty Wells, and Stonewall Jackson. On December 16, 2004, at 1:00 PM, Carson passed away at 83 years of age. Tags: music country Martha Carson |
