Justin Hayward - Tregardock Tregardock: From the "Poetry in Motion" album. Justin sings this rarity. Video is taken from three other vintage Moodies videos/appearances and scrambled. This is my first time using Windows XP movie maker to create a video from other live action clips (and Day 2 of learning the movie maker program). Since the song was never performed live (to my knowledge), there wasn't any way to sync up vocals. I worked on atmosphere and mood for the first part, and then attempted to make a visual rhythm that matched the tone of the song for the second half. It's just another step along the way... If you like the lyrics, check out more by Sir John Betjeman (the entire Poetry in Motion album is based on his work) on the net. Justin Hayward - Still Waters Run Deep Justin was the guest vocalist on this song from Rick Wakeman's Return to the Centre of the Earth album. Experiment Day 8: It was an obvious choice to use cave photographs for this subject. Photos are of major caves throughout the United States. I wanted this to look different from the "On the Road" video, so the challenge was to find a different and interesting way to present these slides. I also explored alternatives for titles and ending credits. You will see two or more versions of each photo; at least one will be a 'normal' shot. The other(s) have one or more video effect treatments from the Windows XP movie maker software. I haven't used the effects much in the past, so it seemed like a good excuse to try them out. Also, I wanted to explore more ways to introduce motion to still photos. Since this is still just one more learning exercise, I didn't emphasize editing for rhythm for this piece. FYI: You can watch Jon Anderson perform this song live from a recent Rick Wakemen concert in Quebec. That footage is also on YouTube. Disinformation "Artificial Lightning" 1 "Artificial Lightning" (aka "The Origin of Painting") by Disinformation - electromagnetic sound and shadow wall, autodestructive portraiture and experimental painting installation, live at The Hayward Gallery, London, UK, April to July 2000 (where this installation was set-up directly opposite an exhibit by Brian Eno). Special thanks to Tim and Jamie Register and David Toop. 36,000 people came to see the exhibition, and The Financial Times described Disinformation's exhibit as "actively thrilling". The installation functions as a form of contemporary Vanitas painting, as Sci-Fi author Jeff Noon wrote in The Independent - "peole are fascinated by this work - it brings a shiver, a sudden recognition of death, as though we have seen or heard our own ghost". The Hayward Gallery installation was visited by choreographer Saburo Teshigawara (with dancer Kei Miyata and photographer Ravi Deepres), and inspired the dance producton "Luminous" on which Disinformation worked with Saburo's dance company Karas in Tokyo in 2001. "The Origin of Painting" also inspired a project called "Anti Matter" (exhibited at The Huddersfield Art Gallery, The Mac in Birmingham, Wrexham Arts Centre etc) - a Disinformation video which explores themes suggested by ideas of the physicist Paul Dirac. "Sonic Boom" at The Hayward Gallery featured installations by Disinformation, Christian Marclay, Lee Ranaldo (of Sonic Youth), John Oswald, Brian Eno, Ryoji Ikeda, Mariko Mori, Pan Sonic, Paul Burwell (RIP), Stephan Von Heune, Angela Bulloch, Chico Macmurtrie, Greyworld, Russell Mills, Ian Walton, Philip Jeck, Paul Schutze, Rafael Toral, Robin Rimbaud / Scanner, Joao Paulo Feliciano, Max Eastley, Heri Dono, Thomas Koner, Christina Kubisch and Project DARK. Many of the ideas documented in Disinformation's section of the "Sonic Boom" catalogue reappreared (several years later) in a series of works by Christina Kubisch called "Electrical Walks" (Professor Kubisch constantly claims she is one of "the first generation of sound artists", a claim that is blatantly false - Christina Kubisch published her first LP in 1976, John Cage wrote his first "Imaginary Landscape" in 1939, and Luigi Russolo premiered his "Intonarumori" in 1911). Disinformation also contributed to a (separate) CD project called "C4i". Some time later, lawyers acting for "Sonic Boom" contributor Ryoji Ikeda threatened to sue Disinformation for "defamation" for the crime of pointing out (to an employee of London's Barbican Centre) a rather obvious conceptual similarity between the original "C4i" project and Ryoji's later project "C4i" (which was commissioned by Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media - YCAM, in Japan, with its touring funded by the Japan Foundation). The record company that released the original "C4i" CD - Staalplaat, is the same company that released Ryoji's "Time and Space" and "Mort Aux Vaches" CDs, Ryoji's lawyer argued that the 2 "C4i" projects could not be related however, because Ryoji's title was an acronym for the term "Command, Control, Communications, Computing and Intelligence" - a term which happens to be a direct quote from the front cover of the original "C4i" CD ! http://www.spiderbytes.com/ambientrance/c4i-c.htm http://www.residentadvisor.net/review-view.aspx?id=3691 http://www.staalplaat.com/search/catalog/9395 The new 35mm cinema version of a Disinformation project called "Fire in the Eye" (commissioned by Threshold Studios for The Arts Council of England) premieres at The Edinburgh International Film Festival on Saturday 21 June (the first still-image version of "Fire in the Eye" was made in 2004 and first exhibited at Wrexham Arts Centre in 2006) - details from http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk Tags: Disinfo Ryoji Ikeda kinetic art Brian Eno Random International Christian Marclay temporary graffiti Pan Sonic Jeff Noon |

Justin Hayward - Dawn of a New Day The album is "The Eye of Wendor" by Mandalaband, and Justin was a guest vocalist for one song. The album was reissued on CD and you can still find it online. Video Experiment Day 11: This was a challenging song to create a video for because of the tempo changes and sound blending. Listen to it at high volume to hear all of the sound effects at the beginning. I wanted to recreate the dreamlike quality of the song visually. In the beginning you don't know exactly what you're about to hear, so I tried to mimic that by not letting the viewer know exactly what they were going to see. I chose erratic edits and experimented with blending in an attempt to follow the mood and tempo of the song. Sometimes I followed rhythm, sometimes I followed lyrics. I wanted to create motion and challenge the viewer to pay attention rather than drift. All of the photos are of geysers from Yellowstone National Park's official website (public domain). Hayward & Lodge - Remember Me, My Friend (extended) The extended version of this song was only available on the Blue Jays cassette. The jam session at the end of the song reportedly ran longer than this version. Video Experiment Day 12: I wanted to make this a slice of history to honor Blue Jays and the events surrounding the album and singles. The emphasis was more on content than technical experimentation. I wanted to make the viewer feel like they had opened a time capsule where some things were familiar and others were less so. Other remarks: Do you think Justin was a little influenced by Santana during the jam session? It would be nice if they would release a special SACD of Blue Jays with the full extended version and other rarities.
