In the beginning, she spent much time singing in a band. As his appreciation for the truth has been increasing, she went to change his lifestyle. He explained the components of the band that could sing on the night of the meeting. She enrolled in the Teocratic School of Ministry progressed to the point of becoming publishing non-baptized. He participated in a national competition of singers that the winner would sign a contract with a record label famous. Conforme seu apreço pela verdade foi aumentando, ela passou a mudar seu estilo de vida. Explicou aos componentes da banda por que não poderia cantar nas noites de reunião. Ela se matriculou na Escola do Ministério Teocrático e progrediu a ponto de se tornar publicadora não-batizada. Participou de uma competição nacional de cantores em que o ganhador assinaria um contrato com uma gravadora famosa. Embora muitos candidatos tenham sido eliminados nos testes, Helgi obteve o apoio imediato dos juízes e se classificou para a eliminatória seguinte. No entanto, a próxima etapa da competição seria na mesma noite de sua primeira parte na Escola do Ministério Teocrático. O que ela faria? Sua mãe, que não é Testemunha de Jeová, sugeriu que ela cancelasse a parte na Escola ou marcasse para outro dia. Helgi disse que não era apenas uma questão de fazer ou não a parte, mas sim do que vinha em primeiro lugar em sua vida, coisas espirituais ou materiais. Ela pensou muito no assunto e decidiu fazer a parte e não ir à competição. Helgi fez o discurso e sua mãe respeitou sua decisão. Mais tarde, um repórter de televisão foi ao Congresso de Distrito "Siga a Cristo!" para gravar uma reportagem sobre o congresso e o batismo. Ao ver Helgi entrar na piscina de batismo, ele a filmou e depois a entrevistou. Naquela noite, essa reportagem foi apresentada no noticiário, e incluiu um clipe com uma apresentação dela no início da competição. A matéria concluiu com as imagens do batismo de Helgi e com ela dizendo sorridente: "Essa foi a melhor decisão de minha vida."
