IBM Modern Day Alchemy Press Ready Vid w/ voiceover, titles - IBM engineers have invented a unique, eco-friendly way to recycle scrap silicon "wafers" -the base material used for chips in everything from computers to consumer electronics - and is making it available to the solar energy industry to produce solar panels. The new process has dual advantages for the environment, as it will help reduce the estimated 3 million silicon wafers discarded each year across the computer industry, while also providing new supplies of raw materials to the supply-constrained solar energy industry. Video of a Girl 3 days dead comming back to Life!! In which I give a link to a national geographic video which shows a girl who eyewitnesses claim was dead for three days, and then came back to life!! This as a part of a ceremony making her a medium. I draw some interesting connections between this case and the recent debates I've had on eyewitness testimony considering the resurrection of Jesus, and whether science can prove the resurrection actually happened. Check it out at : http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/player/places/culture-places/beliefs-and-traditions/benin_birthofvoodoo.html Tags: voodoo christianity christ resurrection evidence theist atheist jesus randy helzerman hume |

Norton at U. Pitt. Davidson's principle of Charity In which I continue the wrestling with the asshole god of skepticism series. I try to refute global skepticism in 10 minutes :-) I do this by explaining the Quine-Davidson "principle of charity" which is a transcendental argument which shows that in order to have a conversation with somebody at all--in order to know that you are interpreting them correctly--you have invoke the "Principle of Charity" towards them. You have to attribute to them as much truth as possible. The remarkable conclusion is that anybody we can talk with at all we (A) know that we share most of our beliefs in common, and (B) we know that both of use are mostly correct. Can Bayes' Law Prove the Resurrection? In which I attempt to show that you can't use Bayes' Law to prove that the Resurrection happened. This argument generalizes to all other miracles as well. This is my 2cents about a debate which happend between Ehrman and Craig--transcript available here: http://www.holycross.edu/departments/crec/website/resurrection-debate-transcript.pdf Enjoy! If you don't know what Bayes' Law is, check out the most excellent series by trondreitan: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bpkTbPfQT10 THANK YOU TRONDREITAN!!!! Its great to just be able to link this. Why does Kabane believe in the Resurrection? In which I explain why Kaben52's case for the resurrection--even though its the best I've ever heard--is still not convincing, nor even can make the resurrection seem particularly probable. I conclude by hoping that he has the real evidence for believe in Jesus, which is power to overcome sin and lead a righteous life. Nondeterminism in the Hodgkins-Huxley Equation (part 1) In which I briefly describe the neuron, and how the Hodgkins-Huxley equations model it. I also discuss the fortunate form of the neurons in the visual cortex of the rat, how they take the form of weighted sum of boltzmans, which I can exploit for my own nepharious purposes. I go on to discuss how a neuron could evolve to have nondeterministic behavior. Tags: free will determinism nondeterminism randy helzerman Hodgkins Huxley |

Consistent Christianity is Heretical Christianity In which I use the Nicene Creed as examples of where Orthodox Christianity has consistently and repeatedly insisted on an explicitly inconsistent doctrine. I further argue that this is not necessarily bad or a slam on Orthodox Christianity at all. Rather, I argue that any attempt to describe The Divine in human language will inevitably lapse into contradiction. I believe the inconsistency was deliberate, and is meant to underscore the transcendent nature of God. Tags: helzerman randy |
