Inhumane? Yes or No. (Water boarding, etc.) To whom it may concern, An issue has been reopened recently, although it has been open to public knowledge for quite sometime. It pretains to the use of waterboarding or other supposedly "inhumane practices" that are used in order to get information out of terrorists or other persons of interest. What is the issue as a whole? It is: "How humane is it to do such a thing to these terrorists or other persons of interest?" Well, my position here is not to tell one what side of the issue to stand on, but I must make a few points. Especially if you view it as wrong. I will also be referring to the terrorists and persons of interest collectively as terrorists, so since that is clarified and there should be no confusion let us continue to a hypothetical situation: Let us say that these "terrorists" had a plan to kill thousands, maybe even near a million or more innocent civilians. 1) If the innocents in question were to perish due to this attack, would that not be cause for war? That is to take into consideration the fact that innocent civilians do, indeed, die in wars and there really is no definite word for the killing of innocents during peacetime, besides terrorism that is. Additionally, in past years terrorism has been quelled by troops, in battles, if you do not see where I might be going with this, please stop the continuation of this video now. 2) Let us say, all of this taken into consideration, makes it a war. Now, did the attack on innocent civilians violate the "understood" rules of war? 3) Did it violate the Geneva Convention? 4) Was this attack inhumane? Now, if you did not answer "yes" to point 4, you must not know the definition of "inhumane." So let us break in down, shall we? Inhumane - An adjective; not human; lacking humanity, kindness, compassion, etc. Now Humane, shall we? Humane - Another adjective; characterized by tenderness, compassion, and sympathy for people and animals. Especially the suffering or distressed. So now, you would likely answer "Yes" to point 4. If you still do not, then you need to not even speak about the issue in question. It is not within your intellectual capabilities. A few more points and them I am through. 1) Does the Bible not say "an eye for an eye?" If you do not believe in the Bible does the Code of Hammurabi not say the same? Is taking the "terrorists" hypothetical "eye" for killing those people right? Is it right to save other innocent civilians from being harmed by any means necessary? If it is not right, I would like to know why. One might say that it is not right because there are plenty of other ways of getting the information; that may be true, but it might not be as efficient and quick. If another plot is planned a few days from when the last attack was, is it not best to get the information quickly in order to save the other people that could possibly die? I am wondering, if it is inhumane to save the lives of people who could come to harm, even die, at a later date. Does this mean that terrorism is a humane act? In my final words - I would like to say this - Was it humane of al-Qaeda to destroy the World Trade Center towers and make people jump out of burning buildings whilst they were on fire themselves? How about when Al-Qaeda attempted to bomb U.S. troops on December 29, 1992 when the said troops were on their way to help with the famine effort in Somalia. 7 were injured and 2 were killed in that bombing and all were innocent civlians. Or maybe even more human was when the terrorists from Al-Qaeda bombed the World Trade Center for the first time in 1993 and killed 6 civilians? How about the US Embassy Bombings in 1998 or the USS Cole bombing? I guess that brings Al-Quadia's humanitarian actions to a body count of 3306 dead as a minimum number and many other wounded.
