YouTube: An Introspective Poem OK so this is what this video is about: I have been extraordinarily busy lately with life. I constantly feel like I have to make lots of videos to please my viewers, but I just don't have the time for it anymore. So basically, I considered deleting my account. Then, I thought I've met so many great people here and I have worked so hard on these videos that it would be a shame to leave it all. What we have here is a poem I wrote (something totally different than what I usually do) concerning my thoughts. I really hope you enjoy and can relate. :) *The music is "No One Gets Left Behind" by Devotchka. ---Recently I thought about quitting, of splitting, of leaving this place we all consider our own little video mecca. This tube, they call it "YouTube" and yet when was the last I saw YOU on it? Commercialism, sponsors, elitism galore...they all weren't existent when I joined the floor. This place was just about expressing yourself freely. Remember: Remember a time when 2000 subscribers meant you were the 12th most subscribed of all time? I do. Remember when you commented on someone's channel to meet them, not to have them meet you? I do. Remember when the worst someone could say was "the lighting is slightly off but it's still a great video," rather than "you suck fag go kill yourself?" I do. The point is, my peers, that over the years YouTube has greatly changed. It went from a place where we met face to face on issues that always ranged. But now all I see is me, me, me...self-interest is wreaking its havoc. You want to be famous? Cure disease, be active, get off your anus. Do something that's worth MY while. Granted you're expressing yourself, but if it wasn't for us you would be nowhere. I'm not trying to criticize, chastise, to make you feel unwanted, that's for a hater's glare. I'm merely here to put things into perspective...this YouTube world has power over all of us. You've tried to quit it, but the addiction succeeds. To conclude, I just want to say that despite the gray, the gloominess, the favoritism, YouTube is where I want to be. This video obsession I once had is now a fad of global epidemic proportions. Is that bad? Anonymity is fading. You Tube if the new Boob Tube. It's not going away anytime soon. So make the most of it. Live your own life just as you would have before. Don't succumb to the obsession, embrace it. Should I leave this place, this familiar, comfortable space that I enjoy? The friends, the experiences, the fun of video making is what I should really count. Therefore, no, I will not go, but rather take it slow. Realize real life takes center stage and YouTube is simply the curtain at the end of the play. Tags: poem about you tube youtube life gets in the way but don't give up on this place
