Cambodia: From Irrawady Dolphins to The Ridiculous http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Around 15-20 of the rare Irrawady Dolphins make their home around Kratie. Our Explore group made their way into the Mekong River hoping to spot them. We did...but B-O-R-I-N-G...and almost impossible to photograph or film. They were "...there...no, there...no look behind...there goes one...ooh, I missed it." By the time you focused they were gone. From a few dolphin sightings to a few of the funny and/or ridiculous sights through Cambodia... Cyclone batters Myanmar's main city Yangon - 04 May 2008 Al Jazeera's Lucy Keating reports on the powerful cyclone that has slammed into Myanmar, killing several people and causing widespread damage. Winds of up to 190-kilometres per hour have flattened buildings and power lines. State media have confirmed four deaths so far in the country's biggest city, Yangon. However the worst hit area has been the Irrawady Delta - reports from the villages there say half of the buildings have been damaged or destroyed. The Government has named five regions as disaster zones - including Yangon and the Irrawady Delta. Tags: lucy keating al jazeera english myanmar cyclone nargis yangon irrawady delta |

Myanmar (from Don't Forget Your Passport) Visit http://www.yummydvd.com or http://stores.ebay.com/Yummy-DVD-Home-Entertainment to purchase. Canadian Ross Shimmon goes behind the Bamboo Curtain to explore Myanmar, Southeast Asia. This is a nation bloodied by tribal conflicts, impacted by ruthless drug barons, and governed by a steel-fisted military dictatorship. Ross is part of the first international film crew granted permission to enter the country in over six years. He explores the stunning beaches along the Bay of Bengal, travels down the legendary Irrawady River to Mandalay, tours a Buddhist Seminary, and meets some of the friendliest people in the entire Asian Rim. Don't Forget Your Passport is your ticket to an adventurous worldwide tour, hosted by a group of energetic and curious world travelers from around the globe. Awesome cinematography provides the backdrop for those spur-of-the-moment, intriguing, crazy yet absolutely real situations that only the most intrepid travellers find themselves in. Living with the cave-dwelling Berber tribes of North Tunisia, hiking through the polar cap villages of Greenland, or being caught in the middle of a street brawl in Guatemala: Don't Forget Your Passportis fearless and fun! Yet it's always good to know that at the end of the day, serenity is just a stone's throw away - in a rainbow-patched waterfall, deep in the steamy jungles of Sumatra, Indonesia. Ahhhh, heaven. Don't Forget Your Passport is a continuing journey into the fascinating cultures and stunning landscapes that make up our ever-changing planet. Burma to Myanmar August 1988 and September 2007 demonstrations Song: 'Happy Ending' by MIKA The innocent people of Burma have been suffering for a whole of two decades since the start of the junta's ruling and to top that off, Cyclone Nargis hit the southern parts of Burma on 2nd May 2008, leaving more than 100,000 people dead and the rest homeless. Simultaneously, the junta was carrying out its elections (which is unneccessary since they are going to rig the votes anyway). With the many restrictions placed by the insensitive junta, there was difficulty getting supplies and aid to the affected areas. Therefore, survivors faced the imminent threat of starvation, disease etc. But now, the flow of help into the devastated delta regions has become smoother with the loosening of restrictions. This is a call for all, wherever you are, to give what you can to the cyclone victims through reliable causes that will benefit the victims directly and not through the bloody hands of the junta. Thank you. Tags: Burma Myanmar military junta Irrawady delta Cyclone Nargis Saffron Revolution march of saffron robes monks 8888 uprising |
