Bert Jansch Courting Blues - Radio Toast for Cancer Research http://www.donatetomyrelay.org/gtc Radio Toast only plays superb music you may never have heard before. If you enjoyed this post, please donate anything you can (before August 2008) to Cancer Research UK using the link http://www.donatetomyrelay.org/gtc Another track of Jansch's 1965 debut album 'Bert Jansch' (the great 'Needle of Death' is also here on Toast), released on Nathan Joseph's Transatlantic label. 'Courting Blues' is full of tension, drama and barely hidden menace. Lock up your daughters! Tags: Radio toast cancer research UK relay for life charity Bert Jansch Courting Blues Folk |

Bert Jansch & John Renbourn play Anne Briggs Bert Jansch and John Renbourn play "The Time Has Come", a song written by Anne Briggs, on their duo album released by Transatlantic Records in 1966. The cardboard of the original LP is rather cheap, but the picture on the back was priceless enough to be the featured visual you see here. Pentangle later recorded this song in 1968 on the Sweet Child release, but of course with Jacqui McShee singing instead. Anne Briggs herself wouldn't record and release this song until 1971 on the record of the same title--a beautiful collection of songs, albeit rather difficult to find. Needle of Death (Jansch) I was figuring out what song to record next, when I remembered I busked this one the other day as a change. Bert wrote this beautiful piece for a friend who over-dosed on heroin. It also inspired Neil Young to write "The Needle And The Damage Done." Note: Bert recently performed this song live on stage with Mr Pete Doherty too. Tags: needle of death bert jansch david whitwell neil young pete doherty folk anti heroin |

Blackwaterside (Jansch / Traditional cover) My cover of 'Blackwaterside', a traditional made famous by Bert Jansch and latterly by Led Zeppelin as the instrumental 'Black Mountain Side'. I wanted to add a more contemporary feel, and using Jansch's brilliant model I simplified the guitar part, unable to match his gymnastics. Let's call it a work in progress! Choruses are overrated! Comments are appreciated. Visit http://www.krisrowley.com http://www.myspace.com/zzzzzzzzap _________________________ "Blackwaterside" One evening fair I took the air Down by the blackwaterside Twas gazing all around me When the Irish lass I spied All through the first part of that night We did lie in sport and play When this young woman arose and she gathered her clothes Saying, "fare thee well today" That's not the promise that you gave to me When you first lay on my chest You could make me believe with your lying tongue That the sun rose in the west. Go home, go home, to your Father's garden Go home and weep your fill And think upon your own misfortune Which you bought with your wanton will There's not one boy in this whole town As easily led as I And when the sky does fall and the seas run dry Why, its then you'll marry I ________ Peace Tags: blackwaterside black water side mountain bert jansch led zeppelin jimmy page folk zzzzzzzzap |
