Jayen Varma My name is Jayakumar Kerala Varma......Known as Jayen Varma.. aged 46... I sarted music when I was in college.. I was into Drums and Indian classical percussion Instrument called Mridangam. I learned Mridangam under my Great Guru Mr.Parasala Ravi, who was the Principal of Indian Classical Music College in Kerala. In North India people use Tabla and in the south people use Mridangam for classical Music Concerts. Then I took off to bass guitar. I ve been playing in the band called Dharma India (formerly FIREFLY). The band toured and played in most of the best venues in india . We used to play all sorts of music from Rock n Roll , Rock, Heavy Metal, Jazz, Jazz-Rock, Fusion, Ragas, Pop, Funk.. etc etc.. we know more than 500 cover songs of various bands in the world. We ve our own album DELAYED GRATIFICATION, which is yet to be released officialy.. I am coming from a small town in India in Kerala. Married and ve two daughters... The town is the capital of earstwhile Cochin State . A place of different temple art forms. In India .. Many renowned artists come from my small town.. The native place of Dr.L.Subramanam, Dr.L.Sankar, Dr.L Vaithanaathan(violin trio, who play with John Mclaflin in sakthi) is my small town... I use a different style in playing bass. Maily percussive style(just like Tabla or Mridandam is played).This is a unique style which, to my belief nobody in the world plays.Though I was discouraged from adapting this style by many, I kept on practicing this. And now the World recognized it..Thank God..Many told me "YOU INVENTED THIS STYLE"..But I say EVERYTHING IS IN THE UNIVERSE..Its God who decides... My inspirations are Jaco Pasporious, Jeff Berlin,Abraham Laboriel, Reji wooten, Billy sheehaan etc etc.. My own BAND is INDIAN EPICS which is a four member band.. playing and demonstrationg Indian Ragas and Thalas.. Currently I play more than 36 notes per second on Bass Guitar. This was checked after making my music in the wave form... and the notes were counted visually.. And the fastest notes recorded in India currently is 28 notes per second. There is no known record of playing 36 notes in Asian Continent. I consider myself as the fastest in Asia and one of the fastest bassists in the world.And the fastest percussive style slap Bassist in the World. In the recording ,I ve not used any gadgets or Gtr Processors..The Music is played Dry.. And my journey continues..... I wish to travel around the world with my Band...and show the world my percussive(tabla style) slap bass.......
