Jem Intro JEM First aired in 1985 as part of Marvel's "Super Sunday" weekend cartoon block, the series was so popular with viewers that producers offered the series by itself in 1986. A MARVEL Production in association with SUNBOW Productions. While it's common for a successful series to spawn a toy line, Jem was actually based on a line of toys already being produced by Hasbro. In addition to this difference, the format of the series was unique in other ways as well. Jem incorporated numerous short musical sequences that were basically animated music videos, which was unheard of in a cartoon series. Since MTV only began airing on August 1, 1981, the music video format was still relatively new making its use in a cartoon even more uncommon. Plus the show had HOT WOMEN!!! Almost 20 years after the Jem toy line was introduced to the U.S. market and 17 years after its demise, Hasbro has shown some legal activity in maintaining their trademarks and intellectual property, leading some fans to believe they may be considering reviving the line via the trademark renewal "for the purpose of selling dolls and doll clothes". However, this may just be standard practice, as if they had not renewed the trademarks they would have lost any future rights to their creation. Two volumes comprising of one set containing the first and second seasons and a second set containing the first half of season three were released on DVD by Rhino. However, before they could release the third and final volume, Season Three, Part Two, the company lost the rights to the series. The rights are now believed to be reverted back to Sony (who absorbed the original producers (Sunbow Productions & their library), who holds the decisions on any future release. Copies of the two previously released DVD volumes regularly sell for several times their original retail price as they are now considered "out of print", especially those that are still sealed in their packaging. It is highly likely that if and when Sony decides to re-release the series on DVD (or licenses it out again) that the entire series would be reissued and not simply the missing volume. Because of the cancellation of the final set, many bootleg copies of the remaining episodes have shown up on auction sites and on popular file sharing protocols.Jem and the Holograms were also recently mentioned on the hit Fox television shows The O.C. and Family Guy. The indie synthpop band, Freezepop's 2004 album, "Fancy Ultra-Fresh," includes a bonus multimedia track which is a remake of the Jem themesong. The show is about a singer named Jem, her band the Holograms and their adventures. Catch phrases from the show included "Showtime, Synergy!" and "Truly outrageous!"it was acclaimed for its interweaving storylines and complex backstory, which were almost unheard of in an animated television series at the time. Inspired by my Jem story "The Kiss" at http://www.fanfiction.net, in which Jem and Danse share a meaningless kiss that turns into a total love affair that rocks Jem's world. Sorry if it seems a bit choppy. The picture is pretty much crystal clear, but the movement may seem a little scratchy. The reason is that I made this motion video entirely of still images. My computer's too slow to capture video from DVD without it taking eons, so yes, I made Jem move the old fashioned way, with about a million screen caps. This took me months to complete.
