Rubber Johnny (Aphex Twin Musicvideo) Rubber Johnny is a 6 minute experimental short film and music video directed by Chris Cunningham in 2005, using music composed by Aphex Twin. The concept for Rubber Johnny came from Cunningham imagining a raver morphing as he danced. The idea evolved to the present film, in which Johnny (played by Cunningham) is an isolated mutant child with a huge overgrown cranium, strapped into a wheelchair and locked in a basement. The Adventures of Julius Caesar The first movie we ever made, in 10th Grade English class, about Julius Caesar. This is supposed to be that play occuring in the 1940's, only with most of the characters missing. Al O'Bama is Cassius, and Jim Beaux-Reutée (which is a deformed form of "Brutè") is Brutus. I am President Julius Kaiser (Kaiser being the German variant of Caesar and a real last name) in 1948. In the beginning, the illegible bill they make me sign is an anti-interracial marriage bill. You can probably guess from my reluctance to sign it what current issue we were getting at (here's a hint: it's not racism). Made in April 2006. In a back channel operation involving Dean Rusk and Jack Valenti, President Johnson asked Maxwell Rabb to go to East Germany to initiate negotiations for the release of John van Altena, a 21 year-old American who had been sentenced to 8 years in prison for attempting to smuggle an East German national through the Berlin Wall into West Berlin. Crossing at Check Point Charlie, Rabb was spirited to a East German mansion where he met with Julius Balkow, East German Deputy Prime Minister, and other members of the East German cabinet. Rabb's German language interpreter was William Rudolf, son of famed Metropolitan Opera conductor, Max Rudolf. Through 1971 Max Rabb successfully negotiated with the East Germans the release of 11 American agents, all of whom had been sentenced to long prison terms. Johann Strauss II - Die Fledermaus Overture Title : Johann Strauss II - Die Fledermaus Overture From Wikipedia, Die Fledermaus (in English: The Bat;' in French: La Chauve-souris') is an operetta composed by Johann Strauss II to a German libretto by Carl Haffner and Richard Genée. The original source for Die Fledermaus is a farce by German playwright Julius Roderich Benedix (1811--1873), Das Gefängnis (The Prison). Another source is a French vaudeville play, Le réveillon, by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. This was first translated by Carl Haffner into a non-musical play to be produced in Vienna. However, the peculiarly French custom of the réveillon (a midnight supper party) caused problems, which were solved by the decision to adapt the play as a libretto for Johann Strauss, with the réveillon replaced by a Viennese ball. At this point Haffner's translation was handed over for adaptation to Richard Genée, who subsequently claimed not only that he had made a fresh translation from scratch but that he had never even met Haffner. The operetta premièred on April 5, 1874 at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna, Austria and has been part of the regular operetta repertoire ever since. It currently appears as number 19 on Opera America's list of the 20 most-performed operatic works in North America.
