42 Deaths in Clinical Trial Ortho Biotech, a Bridgewater, New Jersey-based Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, reports that 42 patients have died in a test of the anemia drug epoetin alpha. The German institute conducting the study denies the report. Epoetin alfa, which belongs to a class of drugs known as erythropoiesis-stimulating agents or ESA, is a bioengineered form of a protein made in the kidneys that is critical to red-blood cell production ESAs are approved in the U.S. to treat anemia in patients with kidney disease and HIV, and cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced anemia. However, ESAs have come under scrutiny over the past two years because of reports of adverse cardiovascular events and cancer linked to the drugs. A spokesperson for the Max Planck Institute for Experimental Medicine in Munich, Germany called release of the information premature and the result "of some sort of panic attack." The institute was conducting a study using epoetin alpha to treat stroke patients. Ortho Biotech markets epoetin alfa in the U.S. as Procrit under a license from Thousand Oaks, Calif.-based Amgen Inc., which markets its own version of the drug as Epogen. Preliminary results from the 512-patient study showed that 42 patients died in the treatment arm compared with 24 in the placebo arm.. David Ogilvy: The Original Mad Man Comes to Life... David Ogilvy: The Original Mad Man Comes to Life at The Paley Center for Media R. Luke DuBois Immersive Art Installation is part of Advertising Week, New York - September 22 26, 2008 NEW YORK, NY, September 22, 2008 The past and the present come together in a dynamic art installation inspired by the words and wisdom of advertisings Original Mad Man, David Ogilvy at the Paley Center for Media beginning on September 22, in honor of the agencys 60th anniversary and as part of the 5th Annual Advertising Week in New York. The multimedia exhibit is a collaboration with Ogilvy New York and audiovisual artist R. Luke DuBois, who has partnered on interactive performance, installation, and music production work with many artists and organizations. The exhibit will be featured in the Steven Speilberg gallery and marks the fifth collaboration between The Paley Center for Media and the advertising industry as part of the annual celebration of Advertising Week in New York. We wanted to find a way to capture the essence of David Ogilvys legacy his insightful commentary on consumers and marketing in a way that was both futuristic and celebratory, said Antonio Navas, Worldwide Creative Director at Ogilvy. Antonio and his creative partner Chris Bradley, teamed together to create the vision for the installation and brought in multimedia artist R. Luke DuBois to bring it to life. At the center of the exhibit is David Ogilvy himself, extracted from a speech made in the early 60s. He offers snippets of famous quotes with comments that are still as relevant to the creation of advertising today, as they were when they first were written and spoken. As Ogilvy speaks, words and music are synthesized together creating a multimedia display that surrounds the viewer as he or she enters the exhibit. As more visitors enter the installation, additional sounds and visual elements are activated by their presence creating an experience that changes and disperses based on how many people are in the exhibit space. Contemporary artists use the new tools of their day, noted multimedia artist R. Luke DuBois. With this installation we are visualizing how David Ogilvys insights of yesterday offer a progressive platform for the future of business and media. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a New York premier screening of the BBC Documentary, David Ogilvy, the Original Mad Man, at 11 am on Monday, September 22st at the Paley Centers Concourse theater. The exhibit will be on display during the run of Advertising Week in New York from Monday, September 22nd through Friday, September 26th. The Paley Center for Media is located at 25 West 52nd Street, New York. Entrance to exhibit is included with free for attendees to Advertising Week. For more information, visit paleycenter.org. Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide (ogilvy.com), a subsidiary of WPP (NASDAQ: WPPGY), is one of the largest marketing communications networks in the world, with 450+ offices in 120 countries, specializing in advertising, relationship and interactive marketing, public relations, sales promotion and related services. The agency services Fortune Global 500 companies, including American Express, BAT, BP, Cisco, Coca-Cola, DHL, DuPont, Ford, Gillette, GSK, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Kimberly-Clark, Kodak, Kraft, Lenovo, Mattel, Motorola, Nestlé, SAP, Unilever and Yahoo!. About R. Luke DuBois: R. Luke DuBois is a composer, artist, and performer who explores the temporal, verbal, and visual structures of cultural ephemera. Stemming from his investigations of time-lapse phonography, his recent work is a sonic and encyclopedic relative to time-lapse photography. Just as a long camera exposure fuses motion into a single image, his work reveals the average sonority, visual language, and vocabulary in music, film, text, or cultural information. Exhibitions of his work include the Insitut Valencià dArt Modern, Spain; 2008 Democratic National Convention, Denver; Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis; San Jose Museum of Art; National Constitution Center, Philadelphia; Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art, Daelim Contemporary Art Museum, Seoul; Sundance Film Festival; and Sydney Film Festival. An active visual and musical collaborator, DuBois is the co-author of Jitter, a software suite for the real-time manipulation of matrix data. He appears on nearly twenty-five albums both individually and as part of the avant-garde electronic group The Freight Elevator Quartet. Tags: David Ogilvy Mather The Paley Center for Media |

QualityStocks Daily Video 4/18/2007 Welcome to The Daily Stock Report...brought to you by QualityStocks.Net, performance tracked daily. I'm Cathy Rankin and for Wednesday April 18th we're bringing you the latest news from around the markets as well as the top movers to look out for today... In Headline News Today... The major averages closed in split fashion Tuesday as investors weighed another round of upbeat earnings reports and tame inflation data against the temptation to lock in some of the market's recent gains. As a reminder, the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq have climbed roughly 3.6% on average during the month of April amid heightened expectations Wall Street analysts may have revised their estimates too low. Meanwhile, with policy makers recently emphasizing their inflation concerns, and the monthly CPI report's ability to influence monetary decision making, early indications were signaling a lower start for stocks. The market's sizable gains a day earlier and the Dow less than 60 points away from its all-time closing high also contributed to the lack of buying interest at the onset of trading. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq had climbed 2.4% on average over the last two weeks amid heightened expectations the first quarter won't be as bad as initially thought. Today's gains now leave all three indices up about 3.4% on average during the month of April alone. Core consumer prices raising a lower than expected 0.1%, though helped to ease renewed fears about pricing pressures and provided a floor of buying support. In the end, however, the soft number, coupled with rising energy costs that left total CPI with its biggest increase (+0.6%) since last April, did not exactly signal that inflation is back under control. The recent uptrend in energy prices threatens to raise overall inflation pressures and keep the core trends above Fed targets . Further proof of stabilization in housing, following unexpected 0.8% increases in monthly starts and permits, was also encouraging; but the data merely prompted bargain-hunting interest in Homebuilding, this year's worst performing S&P industry group. The bigger story Tuesday was earnings. Coca-Cola and Johnson & Johnson, which topped Wall Street expectations, were the biggest reasons behind the Dow briefly eclipsing its all-time closing high of 12,786.64. While both blue chips acted as notable sources of support for their respective Consumer Staples and Health Care sectors, the defensive characteristics of both stocks also offered less conviction on the part of today's follow-through buying efforts. Technology was also in focus as investors placed their bets on solid earnings reports from tech bellwethers like IBM and Intel. Average gains of more than 1.0% from each Dow component, which were scheduled to report after the bell, accounted for another 10 Dow points. And now for our Small Cap News... brought to you by Sub Surface Waste Management of Delaware, Inc. (SSWM.OB).
