Trapt "Stay Alive" Claymation Music Video by Miles Kalbach

The claymation music video I created for Trapt's new single Stay Alive. The entire project took a couple of months to complete, but 95% of the work was completed in a 4 week span during which I slept an average of about 4 hours per night. The animation was created using exactly 2,132 individual photographs, taken with a standard point-and-click digital camera. Special effects like the mirror and "the matrix" were created by layering photos in Photoshop and masking out the unwanted areas. The band footage was incorporated into the animation on a frame by frame (by frame by frame by frame...) basis by breaking the footage down into a series of still images and compositing those images into the stop-motion photos one by one. The performance portions of the vid were masterfully shot by Nate Weaver. I built the set by hand using some faux suede placemats for the walls and actual linoleum tile cut up into 1" squares for the floor. The frames I picked up in the dollhouse section of a local arts and crafts store, and I built the pedestal using a cardboard tube and a bunch of cut down pencils. The entire video was compiled using Photoshop, Flash, and iMovie (Macs rule). A huge thank you goes out to Trapt and their manager Drake for granting me this incredible opportunity. Shane Kalbach - Diatonic Diddy Munch

Over 100 views and it hasn't even been a week since we left. :) August 4, 2008 - Monday Night Campfire "If you're going to be a nerd about something, it's coolest to be a nerd about music. Music is so cool." Shane Kalbach, once again, sings a strange but amazingly awesome song at the Monday Night Campfire. This time, it was held at Indian Bowl, so the lighting isn't good. He opened the song with what I call an "anonymous shoutout" - he mentioned that he wrote this song for this year because he found videos of him singing from last year here on YouTube. Before the very first meal, Shane found out it was me. His first words to me in 2008 were: "So YOU were the one who uploaded the videos. THANKS for making me look like an idiot in front of the world." You're welcome, Shane. :) You know we love you. Coldplay - "Lost?" - Stop Motion video by Miles Kalbach

The video for "Lost?" that I created for Coldplay. The entire film was created without any real "proprietary" equipment, and is comprised of almost 3,400 individual photographs. I handcrafted the puppet and all the props from various materials including wire, foam, cork, tape, paper, and miscellaneous hardware. I hope you enjoy it!
