Authenticity Close to my previous question...what are the hallmarks of authenticity? when does a video start to stray from it? I noticed my physical pose here does look a little staged, but ive been sitting like that for hours. it works out on that chair. somehow. Web 2.0 ... The Machine is Us/ing Us Final version now available! http://youtube.com/watch?v=NLlGopyXT_g http://mediatedcultures.net Web 2.0 in just under 5 minutes. This is the 2nd draft, and I plan on doing one more final draft. Please leave comments on what could be changed or improved, or what needs to be excluded or included. Subscribe if you want to be notified when the revision is released. UPDATE: I just added this video to Mojiti where you can actually write your comments into the video itself. It is an exciting experiment in "Video 2.0". Go check it out at http://mojiti.com/kan/2024/3313 and add your voice! Transcripts are now available as well: http://mediatedcultures.net/ksudigg/?p=78 A couple of people have noted that the statement, "XML was created to do just that" (separate form from content) is misleading because CSS enables the same effect with HTML. I tried to integrate CSS into the video, but it ruined the flow. Perhaps in the next draft. My statement on XML is based on the following from xml.com: "In order to appreciate XML, it is important to understand why it was created. XML was created so that richly structured documents could be used over the web. The only viable alternatives, HTML and SGML, are not practical for this purpose. HTML, as we've already discussed, comes bound with a set of semantics and does not provide arbitrary structure." Thank you all for the comments. With your help the next draft will be cleaned up and hopefully free of factual errors. A higher quality version is available for download here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6duzg3zioyd Please note that this is the second draft and the final version will not be available until late February after I review all comments and revise the video. Please return for a new download link at that time. The song is "There's Nothing Impossible" by Deus, available for free at http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/103/ Deus offers music under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 license, yet one more example of the interlinking of people sharing and collaborating this video is attempting to illustrate. Rethinking US. A Student's Journey and discovery of YouTube - Learning from the Digital Ethnography Working Group @ KSU. http://youtube.com/groups_members?name=ksudigg This video tracks the journey I began when researching the question - Why do people blog? - as a project for one of my Information Science classes. I first posed the question in a class discussion with great derision. I felt that "spewing your guts" all over the internet and sharing them with the world was "stupid and needy." My professor convinced me to use the question as my research topic. He also sent me the link to Dr. Wesch's Web 2.0 video. http://youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE I was captivated by Wesch's portrayal of the "big picture" and the feeling of interconnectedness it gave me. Inspired, I began searching through all of his videos and those of his Digital Ethnography students. I began branching out by watching not only the students' videos - but also the videos in their playlists and favorites. If I drew a map of all the videos I watched - starting with Dr. Wesch's in the center - it would look a great deal like a family tree. (This "tree effect" fascinates me and I could go on forever on that tangent, so I'll force myself to stop there.) Over time my question evolved to - How is blogging changing the world? - and then finally - How is vlogging changing US? After watching hundreds of videos I finally decided - (duh! forehead slap) - to create my own account. The humanity and connection I witnessed in my many hours of viewing transformed me from cynical skeptic to converted vlogger. I created this video as my final report and played it for my class during our project presentations. I wanted to take them on my journey of discovery. I wanted to show what I had learned and try to answer some of the questions I journaled along the way. Most of all I wanted to create something that would portray my own "RETHINKING" and a few of the ways in which we all might be RETHINKING US. Thank you, Dr. Wesch and DE students. Authenticity on the Tube Draft video of how authenticity is determined on the tube. This video is a compilation of videos used to discuss authenticity on YouTube. LonelyGirl15 is an example of authenticity or lack thereof, as her vlogs helped shape how vloggers define authentic and inauthentic, despite the ability to create new identities, enviroments, and so forth. We are all creative producers with the ability to act to some degree and manipulate. However, how candid we are seems to reflect our authenticity. again, all videos are content from the users of this site. This is a draft, so feel free to comment, suggest, etc! Education, Privacy, and YouTube The idea of blackmail....and privacy from "important people". My videos have a few different audiences, which usually see different sides of me. these worlds collide on video presentations to not only the youtube community, but others.....does this mean no obscene jokes or gestures? gahh... After saying that, allow me to become a bit more professional. here is the link to the Chronicle of Education.
