Now Human Rights Watch is calling for aid to Sri Lanka to be withheld. The Tamil homeland of Northern Sri Lanka is once again a war zone. The government is convinced it can crush the rebels within three years. "They only have this area left", states Brig Prasad. As well as targeting Tamil rebels, the government is accused of thousands of; "extrajudicial killings, abductions, disappearances". Most of the disappeared are ethnic Tamils. MP Mano Ganesan believes the abductions are; "a means of crushing the Tamil national struggle". The capital, Colombo, teams with police and soldiers but none of the abductors have been caught. Tamils Rebel - Sri Lanka May 1995 Sri Lanka is being torn apart by civil war as Hindu Tamils and Buddhist Senhalese clash once more. This report was filmed inside Tamil held territory and across the front line on the very day the war restarted. We travel from Anaranapuram to the town of Vavuniya, and across the front lines to the rebel held, Jaffna, where ordinary Tamils face a daily struggle. Tamil radio blares out news of the war on the streets of Jaffna. A 70 year old man flees his home, loading all his possessions onto a truck. Heavily laden civilians walk across a lagoon at night. It's watched by snipers, but is the only route open between north and south. At the Tamil headquarters women fighter 'Tigresses' train for war. "We will lay down our lives for Tamil Eelam," says one. Their willingness for martyrdom has earned the Tamil Tigers a fearsome reputation. A Tamil leader explains that inhuman treatment of Tamils caused the renewed fighting. We interview the father of one of the suicide Tamil 'Tigresses' whose attack on two Sri Lankan navy ships sparked off the fighting. She was just 22 but her tearful father speaks proudly of her sacrifice. The Tamils are determined to exert their rights and are well prepared to use force. Questions raised by the birth of a new state towards demand for self-determination by similarly affected Tamils in Sri Lanka, may explain Sri Lanka's discomfiture towards Kosovo's independence, more than the outwardly expressed "concern" for the threat to international peace and security, political observers in Colombo said. "We note that the declaration of independence was made without the consent of the majority of the people of Serbia. The Unilateral Declaration of Independence by Kosovo could set an unmanageable precedent in the conduct of international relations, the established global order of sovereign States and could thus pose a grave threat to international peace and security," Sri Lanka's statement said according to media reports from Colombo. China, Russia and India are expected to oppose the Kosovo's independence. Land-locked Kosovo, with a geographic area of 4200 sq.mile and population of 2m, will be the sixth state carved from the former Serbian-dominated Yugoslav federation since 1991, after Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Montenegro, and is expected to be accepted as the 193rd state in the world's comity of nations. Tacit acceptance of the viability of Kosovo with a smaller geographic area than Sri Lanka's NorthEast (7500 sq.miles), and smaller population than Tamils in Sri Lanka (4m), by approving members of the international community debunks the argument against the viability of Tamileelam, political observers in Colombo noted. In contrast to Kosovo, Tamils demand for self-determination initiated by an alliance of Tamil political parties in Vaddukoaddai resolution in 1976, preceded the armed struggle by Liberation Tigers, and therefore, provides additional weight to Tamil demand. Dispute on the legality of Kosovo's independence is likely to continue between US, EU and the opposers led by Russia and Serbia. Many Western governments argue that because 1244 does refer to general principles that G8 foreign ministers had agreed in advance of the resolution, these should be used as the basis for the acceptance of independence now. These principles include the deployment in Kosovo of "international civil and security presences" and "facilitating a political process designed to determine Kosovo's future status," according to analysis by BBC. The counter-argument by Serbia and Russia will be that Serbia, the sovereign state, has not agreed to independence for Kosovo, that there is no Security Council resolution authorising the detachment of Kosovo from Serbia and that therefore its independence is illegal. Sri Lanka's foreign ministry added its voice to the dissenters saying: "This action by Kosovo is a violation of the Charter of the United Nations, which enshrines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of member states," AFP said. Sri Lanka's stand, however, ignores Article 1(1) of UN's International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which asserts: "All peoples have the right of self-determination. By virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development." Sri lanka Consul General Bandula Jayasekera debate with CTC Posted by: United Sri Lankans of Canada -Interview on Omni news with Sri Lankan Consul General to Toronto, Bandula Jayasekera and David Poopalapillai of Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC). The interview discusses the network put in place by Liberation Tamil Tigers of Eeelam Terrorists to harass and collect money from innocent Sri Lankan Tamils living in Toronto etc. Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and other sources have alleged that Canadian Tamil Congress is the number one front line organization and the face of LTTE in Toronto as of now. This is due to the ban imposed by the government of Canada in 2006 causing pro LTTE organizations to go underground. After the crack down on World Tamil Movement and other LTTE institutions in April of 2008 by Canadian Authorities, RCMP has clearly indicated that organizations such as Canadian Tamil Congress have a credibility issue on their hands and some serious explaining to do. Although David Poopalapillai tries to manipulate the idea of representing the Tamil Diaspora with bogus human rights allegations he is only standing up for the interests of LTTE, as it's clear that he too may be in the payroll of LTTE terrorists. On the night of the interview a ltte suicide bomb blast similar to uncountable attacks in the past ripped through the heart of Colombo killing many innocent civilians and injuring a large number of civilians but not a word of condolence from David and his congress, who claims to be the champion of human rights. Many Sri Lankan Tamils have defied and spoke out against harassment and threats carried out by LTTE in Toronto. There are many filed cases of moderate Tamils being harassed and threatened for standing up for what they believe in. Due to such acts there is a large growing sentiment of dissent by Tamil Diaspora against LTTE agents and operations in Toronto. The main reason is also due to LTTE killings of moderate Tamils, politicians, innocent civilians, child recruitment and suicide bombings carried out in Sri Lanka and organized crime carried out against the Tamil diaspora overseas. The interview ended with Consul Jayasekera questioning the head of Canadian Tamil Congress, "David, how much money have you collected for the LTTE so far?".
