Juggling hardcore, epic rock, grunge and country punk, Black Ocean are kinda like Nirvana meets The Lemonheads meets The Meat Puppets meets Fugazi. 'The Zen Of Rock And Roll' is the debut album, recorded and mixed by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Stooges) and chock full of genuine promise. Echoing the likes of Nirvana's debut record or the early Soundgarden, Tad and Mudhoney material - these are dynamic pop songs with a hardcore edge, replacing slickness for a gritty live feel and rock attitude. Black Ocean have delivered a record that shifts from grimy hardcore menace to a country punk groove with the odd epic rock moment thrown in for good measure, and as such deserves to be heard and loved by as many people as humanly possible." -- Mike Bond Tas is a Pro teamrider for Billabong (through Frozen Wave Heraklion),Shop and Shops, and The Ikarus, and has been called in Greece "The Godfather of Surf and Skate" in the media, having started surfing and skating in Greece during the early 70's and never quitting. The full length music/surf/skate documentary film "Thoughtless Rebellion" starring Tas will be released in 2009. Tas is also featured in two more films, "Pure Source Primal Force" and "Transcending ART". Tas, who is married to Barb Wire Dolls' singer Queen Isis, lives both in Dogtown and at The Ikarus Artist Commune and fronts the band Black Ocean. Tas's roots go way back to the day with skating, surfing, and/or working professionally with Tony Alva, Peggy Oki, Allen Sarlo, Jay Adams, and other Z Boys and he was the Intl Longboard Skateboard Association President at one point. Tas has played support dates with over fifty national acts including Iggy Pop, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Meat Puppets, Social Distortion, Jimmy Cliff, Screaming Trees, Scream, Melvins, Jesus Lizard, JFA, TSOL, Goo Goo Dolls, and Royal Trux, and has performed on-stage with members of Black Flag, Bad Religion, REM, Nine Inch Nails, Flogging Molly, The Replacements, NOFX, Social Distortion, My Morning Jacket, Goo Goo Dolls, Danzig, and Agent Orange, from hardcore shows at New York City's now closed legendary CBGB's (over 50 shows at CBGB's) to punk shows at Las Vegas' House Of Blues, to metal shows at Hollywood's Sunset Strip icon Whisky A Go-Go. Tas started playing punk rock and started surfing and skating at the original onset of the iconoclastic scene in the late '70s, and he was later the first Greek musician to record with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Stooges) back in 1994 with George Schwindt (drums, now playing in Flogging Molly) and Phil White (bass) for the album "Problem of the Poet". Nathan December later joined on bass before joining REM for two albums and tours (Monster & Up) and then later joined Goo Goo Dolls. Tas released albums on EMI, Hitch-Hyke, Bravo, and Street Records and Rick Rubin's label American Recordings offered Tas a record deal for an Albini album recorded in 1997 but the deal never went through. Negotiations are in the process now for release of Black Ocean's debut album. Black Ocean headlined The Ikarus Rock Festival in 2008. "Mid Life Crisis" is from the forthcoming debut album "Nevermind The Sex, Drugs, & Rock n' Roll, Here's Your Revolver!" recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in Chicago. The album was recorded all live in one take (one day) and mixed in two days.
