Shorty Mooring: "To Give as Jesus Would" Carlton Wayne Mooring, Sr., known to his fans as "Shorty," is a prolific songwriter in Goldsboro, NC, who reckons he has composed hundreds of songs (given away quite a few but kept most close to the vest). Born in 1967 and raised by Maryann and Billy Wayne Mooring in Greene County, NC, Shorty is a mercurial, brilliant artist capable of the widest range of expression, informed by a parade of life experiences that would tax most men to the point of exhaustion if not despair. Yet he keeps dreaming and he keeps producing, mostly in what he calls a bluegrass, rockabilly, back-porch pickin' style. This song, though, is different and something quite special. Shorty takes justifiable pride in his creations, and he is peculiar about being recorded. It took me weeks to persuade him to sit for this take. At length, he decided this was a song to be shared in the spirit in which it was written. "To Give as Jesus Would" came to Shorty at a moment of great suffering, when he saw that all around him needed the ancient lesson it teaches. Here is Shorty at his most profoundly inspired, and I will always be grateful to him for allowing us this glimpse of his mastery and soul. --- To Give as Jesus Would by Shorty Mooring If I could catch each tear that's fell since the day my Saviour died, The fires in hell could not prevail in the power in God's rollin' tide.
