PT 2: neodymium supermagnets, beads: amoebas Bought online from various suppliers. Small neo supermagnet spheres are COOL, especially if you have over fifty of 'em. See links to suppliers at bottom of http://amasci.com/spheres/ I got these 8mm nickel-plate spheres from Mr. George, $0.35 each, http://supermagnetman.net/ Chrome plate or gold are more expensive than nickel. Buckyball fullerene from neodymium supermagnet spheres MAGNET SALE AT MR. GEORGE! http://www.supermagnetman.net/index.php?cPath=43 He's got 8mm sp1000 spheres for $0.30, sp0701 silver for $0.34 See http://amasci.com/amateur/neospher.html Here's the trick to rapidly assembling a buckyball from sixty supermagnet beads. Note that this isn't a true Buckminster Fullerene, since magnets are dipoles while carbon atoms are quadrupoles. True buckyballs have hexagons and pentagons, while ours has squares and is slightly smaller. The big challenge: start with two pentagons, then assemble two hemispheres. (This is how it happens in nature.) Then knit the two hemispheres seamlessly together, trapping a glass marble or other gigantic ionized metal atom within. It's harder than it looks! Neodymium Magnet Pulse Motor Experiment This is a modification from previous experiments. The rotor is bigger and uses powerful rare earth magnets. I built a special commutator because I wanted to use the previous proven circuits on this model but reed switches can't handle the high current and transistors only work on the negative side of the coil bank where the circuit required the switches on the positive side. So I made an adjustable commutator. One of the circuits did not work with this model so far. In fact, these magnets are so strong, that when supplied with the large current needed to get the rotor up to working speed, I believe I over-saturated the small cores of the coils. Still more test to do on this model. On the first half of this video the motor is running on 24 volts using this circuit, http://www.mintakafulcrum.net/Instructionsmk4.htm which did seem to work to some degree as the motor does appear not to draw extra current under load. I'll do more testing but I need six batteries to do this properly. The second half of the video the motor is running from one battery bank and with no recovery circuits. The draw goes up considerably under load. Tags: Pulse Motor commutator |

#01 - Industrial Strength Neodymium Magnets Arrive. This video shows the strong magnetic field of neodymium magnets still in the shipping box despite shielding in the packaging. The magnets will be used to build a magnetic motor, in hopes, that the foundation of my design will be the answer that has eluded countless people (including my deceased dad) in the pursuit of a working fuel-less magnetic engine. However, I believe that this riddle has long since been solved; rather I feel I may have the best design overall, we will soon see. This first video serves as to mark the beginning of my quest in an open forum. Note! This is not a quest or answer for perpetual energy, rather a possible alternative energy source as magnets and parts wear out. There are a hand full of videos that supposedly show a working magnetic motor, but the video always lacks an explanation of just how and why it works. "WHETHER I SUCCEED OR FAIL" I will post my progress in real time. In the event I'm on the right track, but still fail, someone who might see this log of videos may see a key component that I simply overlooked and pickup the ball and resolve the riddle after all. The foundation for my design is based on a old high school science class experiment with a paper clip, a magnet, a short dowel with a boom at the top, a piece of tin and some sowing thread. I'll post a video of the experiment for those of you who may not remember this experiment or never heard of it. It's this elementary lesson I learned in high school that will be incorporate into my core design. For those of you who mark me as your favorite, I will not let you down and will post updates regularly. All to often you see postings here that look pretty promising only to see the postings fizzle out. However, I will bring my postings to a conclusion rather than leaving everyone hanging. The only way my video posts will suddenly stop is that someone stepped in and stopped me. This is a unique opportunity to see history in the making in real time, providing that I have any remote idea of what I am talking about, let alone know what I'm doing. But don't fret, I have years of making some pretty cool things that not only worked, but I got far more than what I bargained for. Possibly history will repeat itself here once again for me, but than again, maybe not. Like someone once said, "necessity is the mother of all inventions". Eventually one of us (if this is actually possible) is going to unlock the mechanics of a working, fuel-less magnetic engine. The world is quickly approaching critical mass over energy, and if magnetism can actually offer a viable alternative to energy, than we need to resolve the riddle here and now and make the end product obtainable to the everyday common man in the form of home generators, car engines and what have you, rather than the answer being locked up in some filing cabinet to collect dust in the name OPEC or national security; hogwash. Like it or not, high energy costs are the catalyst that drives people, like me, to find alternative answers to our ever growing energy needs. After all, we are the children of tomorrow here today, born years ago. Tags: magnetic motor neodymium magnets fuel less fuelless |

My Neodymium Magnet Powered Catapult http://MagnetNerd.com Opposite poles attract, like poles repel, and if you have really big magnets they repel a lot. I decided to take advantage of this by constructing a Catapult powered by the repelling force of a pair of 2" dia by 1" thick Neodymium Magnets with a pull force of 230 lbs. I built it from red oak with brass hardware near the magnets and steel nuts and bolts at the pivot. The ammunition is beanbags. Tags: neodymium magnets tool catapult launch handle safety oak brass |
