Danse du meunier [The Miller's Dance] (Manuel de Falla) This is a song by Manuel de Falla (1876-1946) called Danse du meunier, or The Miller's Dance. It is a "farruca" (Spanish flamenco dance) taken from "El sombrero de tres picos" (1919). This is a neo-classic/neo-romantic/impressionistic piece. Tempo marking: Moderato assai (half note = 60) Feel free to comment and criticize! ^^ Please watch some of my other videos too! ^^ Tags: Neo-classic Neo-romantic Impressionist Miller Dance Meunier Danse Manuel de Falla Farruca Spanish Flamenco Piano Piece |

Top 15 Horror Film Themes #3 Film: Jaws Music: Main title Year: 1975 Composer: John Williams When rising director, Stephen Spielberg, needed somebody to compose the score for his first feature film, Sugarland Express, he promptly approached John Williams with the prospect. Williams, himself, was an up-and-coming film composer who was slowly making a name for himself in a variety of films and television shows in the late 50s and 60s. Later he caught the attention of Spielberg and the both of them struck up a business relationship that would result in the collaboration on countless films together. About a year later Spielberg enlisted his service again for his next movie, Jaws, and history was made. William's work on "Jaws" resulted in a two-tone motif that would become one of the most recognizable film themes in the world, and get fans everywhere chanting "da, da, da, da, da, da, da.." His momentous contribution earned him an Academy award later that year. John Williams' work has often been described as "neo-romantic", and indeed it clearly shows in his compositions for Jaws. The theme begins rising in its familiar and forboding theme, slowly building up suspense, and then explodes into an orchestral movement that leaves the viewer wondering if they're watching a horror/suspense film, or an ocean adventure story. GIORGIO @ THE VIENNA STATE OPERA 2008 The Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), located in Vienna, Austria, is one of the most important opera companies in Europe and throughout the world. Until 1920 it was named the Vienna Court Opera (k.k. Hofoper). The original Opernhaus, a neo-romantic building severely criticised when it was built, was inaugurated on May 25, 1869 with Mozart's Don Giovanni. During World War II, the stage was destroyed by Allied bombs and the building gutted by fire on March 12, 1945. The foyer, with frescoes by Moritz von Schwind, the main stairways, the vestibule and the tea room were spared. Almost the entire décor and props for more than 120 operas with around 150,000 costumes were destroyed. The State Opera was temporarily housed at the Theater an der Wien and at the Volksoper. The rebuilt theatre, the Staatsoper, seating more than 2,200, reopened on November 5, 1955 with Beethoven's Fidelio with Karl Böhm conducting. For many decades, the opera house has been the venue of the Vienna Opera Ball. Tags: Wiener Staatsoper VIENNA STATE OPERA AUSTRIA GIORGIO TRAVEL TOURISM VOYAGE VIENNE |

Filip Naudts -Erfenis van het moederlandschap- "The making of..." Dedicated to Filip Naudts' introspective pictorial series 'Erfenis van het moederlandschap': By means of neo-romantic images Filip Naudts tries to painfully remind himself and society of the way the landscape, our natural environment, is being divided, more and more harshly, at the dawn of the third millennium, and the way it gets crammed with buildings as a result of our unstoppable thirst for prosperity. However, as a photographer, Filip Naudts never offers an emotionless view of reality stripped naked. While photographing, his view becomes introspective; it makes him think about the things he cherishes in his own inner world. Therefore he "constructs" unreal genre pictures in timeless landscapes, in which women free themselves from every form of being defined, no matter how famous they may be in real life today. Aesthetically, he chose to adhere to rural pictural art, a style of which for instance Gertrude Käsebier (1854-1934) is representative. Her work "The Heritage of Motherhood", dating from approximately 1905, functions as his main starting point. His being inspired by this image probably results from his looking "backwards" and the fact that he likes to loose himself but all too much in the past, endless and unknown. His job in the Antwerp Museum of Photography very likely has something to do with that too. MINA "Il cielo in una stanza" LIVE 1968 Best Song Ever in my opinion, written by Gino Paoli and a young Mogol and first smash hit for Mina in 1960. L'ouverture and the break with "il crescendo" of violins are still today extraordinaries! Here from TV show "Senza Rete": LIVE in Naples, Auditorium RAI, 18 Luglio 1968. NOTE: #1 in Top Ten from Oct 1960 to Jan 1961. Mina recorded it in english (The world we love in, then sung by Connie Francis), in spanish (El cielo en casa), in german (Wenn Du an Wunder glaubst), in french. Gino Paoli also recorded 4 different arrangements, in 1977 Franco Simone made a neo-romantic cover and finally Giorgia in 1999 with a "soul" version... but nobody can match Mina's interpretation! Masters of Photography - Josef Sudek Photography © The Estate of Josef Sudek http://www.josefsudek.net/ Some Sudek's portraits © by Charles Sawyer http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/%7Esawyer/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josef_Sudek Josef Sudek (March 17, 1896, Kolín, Bohemia - September 15, 1976) was a Czech photographer, best known for his haunting night-scapes of Prague. Originally a bookbinder, During The First World War He was drafted into Austro-Hungarian Army. In 1915 and served on the Italian Front until he was wounded in the right arm in 1916. Although he had no experience with photography and was one-handed due to his amputation, he was given a camera. After the war he studied photography for two years in Prague under Jaromir Funke. His Army disability pension gave him leeway to make art, and he worked during the 1920s in the romantic Pictorialist style. Always pushing at the boundaries, a local camera club expelled him for arguing about the need to move forwards from 'painterly' photography. Sudek then founded the progressive Czech Photographic Society in 1924. Despite only having one arm, he used large, bulky cameras with the aid of assistants. Sudek's photography is sometimes said to be modernist. But this is only true of a couple of years in the 1930s, during which he undertook commercial photography and thus worked "in the style of the times". Primarily, his personal photography is neo-romantic. His early work included many series of light falling in the interior of St. Vitus cathederal. During and after World War II Sudek created haunting night-scapes and panoramas of Prague, photographed the wooded landscape of Bohemia, and the window-glass that led to his garden (the famous The Window of My Atelier series). He went on to photograph the crowded interior of his studio (the Labyrinths series). His first Western show was at George Eastman House in 1974 and he published 16 books during his life. Known as the "Poet of Prague", Sudek never married, and was a shy, retiring person. He never appeared at his exhibit openings and few people appear in his photographs (in 1976, "for the Roudnice opening he made an excepcion", read about this in the biography by Charles Sawyer). Despite the privations of the war and Communism, he kept a renowned record collection of classical music. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's a wonderful biography by Charles Sawyer (the link below) where you can see Sudek's portraits taken by him, and many other information. From there, i took the following paragraph about the music Mr. Sudek's loved: "Music was a passionate concern of Sudek throughout life and among the composers he admired was the Czech composer Leos Janacek (1854-1928). For years Sudek made a habit of summertime journeys to Janacek's native Hukvaldy in Moravia where he tried to capture both the special beauty of the area and the character of the composer through photographs of the countryside, the town and the composer's home." http://www.photoquotes.com/ShowQuotes.aspx?id=439&name=Sudek ** I believe that photography loves banal objects, and I love the life of objects ** ..everything around us, dead or alive, in the eyes of a crazy photographer mysteriously takes on many variations, so that a seemingly dead object comes to life through light or by its surroundings.... To capture some of this - I suppose that's lyricism. - ------------------------- http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/%7Esawyer/Sudek.htm http://www.pbase.com/omoses/josef_sudek http://www.sudek-atelier.cz/new_web/sudek_foto.html http://www.stephencohengallery.com/artists/vintage/sudek.html http://www.andrewsmithgallery.com/exhibitions/josefsudek/ http://www.luminous-lint.com/app/photographer/Josef__Sudek/C/ http://www.artnet.com/artist/24421/josef-sudek.html http://www.masters-of-fine-art-photography.com/02/artphotogallery/photographers/josef_sudek_05.html http://www.iphotocentral.com/showcase/showcase_view.php/101/1/1 ---------------- There are some videos brought to you by Edwaldd, where you can see the Master using his camera with one arm... priceless part1 http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=Nx86tXQWzJ4 Part2 http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=k0s-GFWfzM0 -------------- Music - String Quartet No. 1 Inspired by Tolstoy's"The Kreutzer Sonata" (1923) by Leoš Janáček http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leos_Janacek Tags: Josef Sudek example of superation still life Leoš Janáček Czech Republic |

organ toccata 2 my second organ toccata. sheet music at http://www.4shared.com/file/58433313/66258bfc/Milnetoccata2.html If you play it especially in concert, i'd be honoured if you record it and put it up on youtube. better recording at http://www.soundclick.com/mattmilne The inspiration for this piece was Cochereau's beautiful performance of gigout's b minor toccata. I wrote this piece specifically to be performed on the notre dame organ, but ofcourse any large organ and good organist could play it easily and is very welcome to do so.
