奈良県 - Me in Nara Prefecture feeding the hungry deers. Me and my Japanese friend visited Nara prefecture to see Tōdai-ji "Eastern Great Temple". A truly awesome and memorable day. These apparently starving deers were all so anxious to wrap their lips round those delicious deer-biscuits. One even followed me up to some step where it attempted to even climb those precariously looking stone steps. Observe... I was trying to give that poor little deer some grub.

Heraklion Prefecture - Crete - Greece Heraklion (Greek Ηράκλειο), also Heraklio is a prefecture of Greece, one of the four prefectures of Crete. The capital is the city of Heraklion. Heraklion is the capital of Heraklion Prefecture. It has an international airport named after the writer Nikos Kazantzakis. The ruins of Knossos, which were excavated and restored by Arthur Evans, are nearby. The palace of Knossos, in Minoan times was the biggest centre of population on Crete. So it is very likely that there was a port here as long ago as 2000 BC. Tags: Heraklion Heraklio Iraklio Crete Greece Kazantzakis El Greco Knossos Phaistos Kasteli Matala Chersonisos Minoan |

Japan - Countryside - Koka-shi, Shiga Prefecture - Minakuchi Uma voltinha pelas ruas perdidas de Koka, Minakuchi. Muitas construcoes seculares, preservadas. Koka City is located in the southern part of Shiga Prefecture, bordering Kyoto and Mie Prefectures. We are famous for our ninja history, fine quality ceramics and historic Tokaido Road. Koka is different from many popular destinations in Japan in that you can make a visit here without having to face the crowds of people or "touristy" atmosphere that you will find in many other destinations. We take pride in the fact that we have preserved our history and culture without over-development. Visiting Koka is a refreshing experience that will allow you to see Japan as it was meant to be seen. We are distant enough from the hustle and bustle to enjoy a unique serenity, however we are close enough to several major hubs to be easily accessible. The JR train line services several stations in Koka to link us to the rest of the country. Being only a short train ride from Kyoto, Koka makes an ideal day trip. We are located approximately 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) east of Kyoto City. Osaka and Nagoya are also within 100 kilometers (about 62 miles). The southeastern section of Koka is encompased by the Suzuka Mountain Range, with many peaks reaching over 1000 meters, (3280 feet). Much of the rest of the city is low and flat, with forests, greenery and rivers. Having an area of 482 square kilometers (186 square miles), Koka City encompasses roughly 12% of the area of Shiga Prefecture. Koka City is a merger of five districts that were once independent towns: Shigaraki, Minakuchi, Konan, Koga and Tsuchiyama. All of these districts share a rich history steeped in tradition. Since ancient times the region (historically known as Koga) has been famous for its distinctive pottery and delicious teas. In the 15th century Koga became famous for being home to one of Japan's two largest Ninja clans. Furthermore, Tokaido Road, the historical travel rout between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto, runs right through the heart of modern day Koka City. Koka City experiences four distinct seasons, with warm summers, cool winters and a mild spring and autumn. Average annual rainfall is about 1,550mm (61 inches) and snowfall is usually quite low, with an average year seeing less than 20cm (8 inches). As of December 31, 2006 Koka City has a population of 95,772 people with 31,284 households. Outubro, 2005 Driving down Mt. Tsubakuro. A very cold day! Red Leaves, Autumn Colors, Wonderful place to go and enjoy the Nature! Shinkyō (神橋). This much-photographed red bridge separates the shrines from the town of Nikko. In feudal times, only the shogun was permitted to cross the bridge, and even today it's barred from pedestrian traffic — although there's a 4-lane highway rumbling right past. After scaffolding in 2004, the bridge can now be admired in full again. Shinkyo -the sacred bridge- Vermilion lacquered sacred bridge; the beautiful Shinkyo is worth enough to decorate the entrance of sanctuary Nikko. The Shinkyo is also called Yamasugeno-jabashi, which means snake bridge of sedge. This bridge belongs to Futarasan Shrine and is designated as an important cultural property. In addition, Shinkyo was registered as the World Heritage in December 1999. Shinkyo is 28 meters long, 7.4 meters wide, and located 10.6 meters above the river. Ten main pillars are built on the rail, and top of each pillar is decorated. Opposite side of the bridge girder is black lacquered, while whole other parts are vermilion lacquered. Establishment of Shinkyo is full of mystery, but is respected as a sacred bridge. Shinkyo was rebuilt in 1636 and became today's appearance. After that, Shinkyo had been opened to only Generals and messengers from the imperial court. Instead, temporary bridge was opened to ordinary people. Shinkyo opened its door to the general public in 1973 for the purpose of preparing upcoming event. The event was held in 1982 for the celebration of the1200th anniversary that Mt. Nantai was enshrined in 782. Shinkyo has had a big reforming period since 1997. Shinkyo is the oldest bridge in Japan in terms of drawbridge style built over the gorge. Also, Shinkyo is known as one of the finest three bridges (Kintaikyo Bridge in Yamaguchi prefecture, Saruhashi Bridge in Yamanashi pref.) in Japan. JERO Performs at Uchinada Beach (Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan) Enka star Jero performing at the Uchinada Peaceful World Kite Festival on May 4th, 2008. Includes interview by reporter from Ishikawa Television. (I would translate the interview, but there's so much surrounding noise that I can't hear what they're saying.) Cameras were not allowed at this event, so I had to do my best to conceal mine while still getting a decent video. Sorry for the lack of quality, I tried my best. Also, the camera picked up the surrounding people's voices, which were annoyingly loud. Tags: Jero enka japan |

Lake Chuzenji is located in the Nikko National Park, which sits on the prefectures of Tochigi, Gunma and Fukushima. The area is particularily scenic and popular during the koyo (autumn leaves) season. The lake is 161m deep and was created by an erruption of Mount Nantai (2482m), a sacred volcano which god is enshrined in Futarasan-jinja (see below). The Chuzenji Onsen is one of the most popular hotspring resorts with Tokyo residents, aside from Hakone and the Izu Peninsula. You can walk around the lake, take boat tours or hike from the Ryuzu Falls at the north-western end of the lake to Yumoto Onsen (about 3 hours). Watch out for the monkeys as they love to snatch anything they can from unwary tourists, like handbags, cameras or wallets. They can also be aggressive, so keep your distance and do not try to feed them or attract their attention. Komaki Castle - Japan, Aichi Prefecture Eu, Teruo, Cida, Sandra, Elaine e Sueli no Castelo de Komaki. Komaki-jo has a very interesting location. In the middle of a huge plain with no relief whatsoever is a large hill called Mt. Komaki. Komaki-jo sits atop this mountain with an incredible view of the whole area. It's the ideal location for a castle. Unfortunately, the top of the mountain/hill is fairly small and most of it is wooded so it's almost impossible to get a picture better than this from the ground. The whole mountain is designated as a National Historic Site. History Komaki-jo followed Nagoya-jo (*) and Kiyosu-jo becoming Oda Nobunaga's third castle. After Nobunaga secured Mikawa province (eastern Aichi prefecture) by an alliance with Tokugawa Ieyasu, he set his sights on invading the Mino province (Gifu prefecture). To that end he built Komaki-jo in 1563. It is said that when Nobunaga decided to build Komaki-jo he sensed that his vassals would object to moving so far from their present home of Kiyosu-jo. So that his people couldn't object, he first suggested that they build a castle on top of Ninomiya mountain in Inuyama. Ninomiya mountain is very steep and it would be a difficult place to build a castle. As soon as they objected the Ninomiya plan Nobunaga suggested Mt. Komaki instead. Having just turned down their lord's first plan, they couldn't object to his second idea too so they moved to Komaki without complaint. Nobunaga stayed in Komaki-jo until he defeated Saito Tatsuoki in 1567 and conquered Mino privince. Nobunaga then moved into Gifu-jo. A vista eh divina. Ao longe, as cachoeiras... a cidade, o lago. Altura aproximada: 2500 m acima do nivel do mar. The Akechidaira Ropeway started its operation in 1933, and ended in 1943. However, business started again in 1950. It takes 3 minutes from Akechidaira plateau to observatory. Also, it goes up to an altitude of 1473 meters. There will be the path, which extends to the Lake Chuzenji after you passed the observatory. It takes you an hour and half to arrive the Lake Chuzenji. You will find a red tower after 20 minutes walk, and there will be a good view around there. In addition, that area is the best place to see pink azalea.
