As-Rigid-As-Possible Shape Manipulation Uploaded by http://haha.nu Takeo Igarashi, Tomer Moscovich, John F. Hughes, "As-Rigid-As-Possible Shape Manipulation". http://www-ui.is.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/~takeo/research/rigid/index.html We present an interactive system that lets a user move and deform a two-dimensional shape without manually establishing a skeleton or freeform deformation (FFD) domain beforehand. The shape is represented by a triangle mesh and the user moves several vertices of the mesh as constrained handles. The system then computes the positions of the remaining free vertices by minimizing the distortion of each triangle. While physically based simulation or iterative refinement can also be used for this purpose, they tend to be slow. We present a two-step closed-form algorithm that achieves real-time interaction. The first step finds an appropriate rotation for each triangle and the second step adjusts its scale. The key idea is to use quadratic error metrics so that each minimization problem becomes a system of linear equations. After solving the simultaneous equations at the beginning of interaction, we can quickly find the positions of free vertices during interactive manipulation. Our approach successfully conveys a sense of rigidity of the shape, which is difficult in space-warp approaches. With a multiple-point input device, even beginners can easily move, rotate, and deform shapes at will. Tags: shape manipulation graphic multimedia |

2D rigid body physics engine This is the current state of my third year Computer Science project. It's written in C++ using the Warwick Game Design C++ library [ http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/~nick/wgd-lib/ ] for most of the non-physics stuff. Currently, the bodies don't rotate at all, but everything else is working much better than I expected. Tags: physics |

Rigid Racing 4 track test Not much has changed under the hood since my last video. I decided to add a track though, to better judge and tweak driving characteristics. It's a lot of fun to play now, but only feasible using a force feedback steering wheel (I tried without FF, was hopelessly numb, needs more steering aids for that and keyboard) There are a few aspects of the simulation that I'm still not happy with, and I'll have to try fixing them before cleaning the code up and making a proper gfx engine (the current playstation-esque look is just placeholder) Tags: racing game drifting drive simulation car race programming coding |

Rigid Body Simulation - WWW.OLOSCIENCE.COM [ http://www.oloscience.com ] For analytical convenience, human body segments are considered as rigid bodies. A rigid body is similar to a system of particles in the sense that it is composed of particles. Therefore most of the equations for a system of particles are usable in the dynamics of a rigid body. The main difference is of course that the rigid body is rigid. There is no migration of mass within a rigid body. As a result, the relative positions among the particles composing a rigid body do not change. This will further simplify the equations obtained from a system of particles. The main strategy in analyzing the motion of a rigid body is to split the motion into the linear motion of the CM and the angular motion of the body about its CM. This is because all particles composing the body show the same relative angular motion about the CM. In other words, one can describe the motion of the rigid body as a whole rather than those of the particles individually. The physical characteristics of a rigid body can be described by its inertial properties: mass and moment of inertia. Semi-rigid RC airship A rough (very rough, sorry 'bout that) video of the first flights of my new 5-foot long semi-rigid hybrid RC dirigible. As I was controlling it, somebody else had to use the camera, and I realized too late that it was set to the lower resolution :/ bugger... I hope to get better videos shot and uploaded soon. A word about the aircraft itself: The envelope length is about 5 feet (~1.5m), and the volume is about 6 cu ft (170 liters). The envelope (balloon) is composed of aluminum laminated polyamide film (aka. balloon foil). All the other stuff (RC gear and the like) are attached to a balsa-carbon fiber keel girder, which in turn is tied to the balloon itself. This gives the craft great stability even if the gas filling was incomplete. The power system offers vectorable thrust to aid in take-offs and landings. The airship is completely scratch built. I built the envelope, the keel and the other structural components myself, and number of electronics are also homebuilt. I estimate it took some 500-1000 hours total to build it. hard to say, I started the project two years ago, but built it only now and then... The craft will receive some updates in the following days. I will probably also take some new videos, and a bit better & sharper this time :) Tags: Airship dirigible balloon blimp RC Aviation RC-blimp |
