Drops - a piano fantasy / Sergi Casanelles Premiered bt María Lorenzo, piano in Agbar Museum (Cornellà - Barcelona). composer: Sergi Casanelles http://www.sergicasanelles.com It was premiered in a piano recital from the cicle "Gotes de música" (Drops of music) produced by ConjuntXXI! (http://www.conjuntxxi.com) for the Agbar Museum. Comments from the edition [you can check it at my editors web site http://www.brotonsmercadal.com ] : This piece was composed for the cycle "drops of water" that took place in the Agbar Museum of Water in the spring of 2008. It was a cycle of 3 concerts with pieces in different formats inspired by the theme of water, a subject that has been of interest to many composers from different perspectives. This piece begins evoking light, fine droplets of water that comprise the first element of this fantasy. Later on, different themes appear that combine with the initial element throughout this piece which is never static and always conveys a sense of fluidity. Postlude in Chopin's "Fantasy" in f minor / Sergi Casanelles Premiered by Pau Baiges, piano in Barcelona's Auditori. composer: Sergi Casanelles http://www.sergicasanelles.com Comments from the edition [if you are interested in the score, please visit my editor's webpage at http://www.brotonsmercadal.com ] : Despite the fact that it is a piece that stands alone, it was written to be played after Chopin's Fantasy in F minor and is constructed as a free composition from disfigured sonorous remembrances of that piece. These recollections evolve and are combined towards other differentiated elements of Chopin's piece. A calm and thought provoking beginning is transformed into a very expressive and nostalgic melody which at the same time develops towards more intense and vibrant moments. 3 sketches in Scherzo's form - Sergi Casanelles Composed and performed by Sergi Casanelles http://www.sergicasanelles.com Dedicated to Leonid Sintsev, was premiered on his 60th birthday celebration concert in St Petersburg This work has 3 short movements: I - Solemnly II - Restlessly III - As a rhapsody Comments of the edition [you can check it at my editors web site http://www.brotonsmercadal.com ] : While I was preparing the present edition of this piece, Leonid Sintsev, the pianist and professor to whom this piece is dedicated, died suddenly at the age of 63. He was my piano professor, but above all, a mentor and a personal friend. Between St. Petersburg, his city, and Catalonia, Leonid developed an intense pedagogic and musical activity. He brought to Barcelona a different way of understanding how to study the piano and music in general. Through him, many of his students had the opportunity to spend time in Saint Petersburg and to impregnate themselves with the intense musical life of the city. This piece was conceived in the summer of 2004 from one of these proposals, in this case, to celebrate his 60th anniversary. It was premiered in the Glazunov Hall of the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory in the concert to commemorate this event on November 12th, 2004. These lines are written to render a small homage to the person who has been a leading figure in piano pedagogy in recent years in our country, but above all, to a person for whom I had a great appreciation. The composition is constructed from three brief pieces with titles which seek to illustrate a character: "Solemnly", "Restlessly", "As a rhapsody". My starting point was Chopin and his Scherzos, where I have always found a combination of these three sensations: first, the solemn and slower elements, usually with chords of many notes, second, very restless and uneasy fragments, and finally elements that, with Chopin, always transport us to certain popular motifs. The idea was, then, to separate these characteristics into different pieces which, combined, would become the "Scherzo" from which they came. In a way, considering the character of the music more than in the music itself, this is a deconstruction which makes a reconstruction a-posteriori possible.
