levelHead: A 3D Spatial Memory Game Demo video of new conceptual game 'levelHead' by Julian Oliver. This is an actual game-prototype using techniques and tools from a well-known branch of computer vision called Augmented Reality. Using tilt motions, the player moves a character through rooms that appear inside one of several cubes on a table. Each room is logically connected by a series of doors, though some doors lead nowhere (they are traps). The player has 2 minutes to find the exit of each cube, leading the character into the entrance of the next.. Work is also being done to use invisible markers such that the cube itself appears entirely white to the naked eye. Spatial Query Processing Utilizing Voronoi Diagrams Google TechTalks August 10, 2006 Mehdi Sharifzadeh is a PhD student doing research at USC this summer for Google. He will be giving a talk on his research as well as his PhD. ABSTRACT Efficient spatial query processing in spatial databases, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and even on-line map systems requires respecting the geometric characteristics of the space of data (i.e., domain). Extracting the geometry of the data is also the ultimate target in many spatial data mining and knowledge discovery tasks. Geometric concepts such as “closeness†mainly depend on the distance metric defined in the space of data. Many spatial queries are seeking to optimize specific functions in... Oblong Industries g-speak spatial operating system Anyone that's seen Minority Report will no doubt remember the impressive gesture based computer system that Tom used in his unceasing (well until the film ended anyway) hunt for future murders. Oblong Industries has announced a new spatial operating system based on hand gestures that bears a pretty close resemblance to the one used at PreCrime. Hardly surprising since the company comprises members of the science advisors to Spielberg's moody sci-fi. Personally, I'm yet to see the value in these kind of operating systems. In the examples I've seen so far, gesture seems to clumsy an approach. It might look impressive but why would I opt for a gesture based word processor when I can use a keyboard (either button or touch screen) or a pen and paper. OK, typing is a gesture and so is writing ergo, there must be a way to adapt them but where is the improvement? How does this make my job easier? Personally I see touch as a more value-able improvement in computer interface but even then, I don't think you can replace a mouse with a finger. You can guide a mouse with a finger but not replace it. As an editor I need accuracy. I click where I want the cut to go. If I pressed on the screen where it should cut, I do not believe it would be accurate enough unless I was REALLY zoomed in, and then what you gain in touch you loose in simple speed of use. Anyone that's tried to type a message on an iPhone will tell you how wayward it's interpretation of your taps can be. Of course the first example of a system is never the best and before too long there will be better and better versions of the system with more and more practical applications. I can see 3D models being much easier to work with but thats about it. Besides, where's the 'unix system' from Jurassic Park gone? Spatial Metrics Spatial Metrics Tools are the most powerful tools available in the UAF. Spatial Metrics Tools record the footsteps of each agent as they move through the free space recording the agents experience and how the space dictates their quality of service. The Spatial Metrics Tool can be used to create coloured maps of complex spatial data including agent speed, density, delay, and space utilisation each of which can be used to examine causality for collisions and Level of Service for pedestrian movement. Spatial (aka Spacial) Disorientation & JFK JR Part 2 of 2 As far as I know is the first time this has been made readily available to the GP when I posted this on Youtube. ;) First part of the first video is opinion and info debunking myths, the rest is a US military Spatial (aka Spacial) Disorientation training film. It's in depth, so most people with ADD or people that are not hardcore flight buff find boring. ;) Spatial (aka Spacial) Disorientation Documentary & Docudrama with Commentary and Opinion in text. Spatial Orientation ~ Creative Mind Purpose The Universe operates as a self-regenerating fractal consciousness where there is an unending out and an unending in of infinity. As it moves Outward and Inward. It moves in all directions and it is Omni-centric... From one memory to one experience from the past to the present, from the present to the future. There is no sense of anything but a linear stream of time that is continuous and constant. So as time becomes compressed and seems to move faster within these same segments of hours, days, minutes, months, years and eons there is a dis-location of the logical consciousness of the left brained analytical mind that cannot cope with the awareness of this faster movement of the quickening of time and the loss of spatial orientation. premieres com goldring Tags: Time space fractal spirit god christ hours days minutes years mayan astrology stars sun shift 2012 ascension angels joy |

F-15 Eagle Spatial (Spacial) Disorientation: World Record G The next short clip shows the cockpit/HUD view From an F-15 that the pilot became spatially disoriented. If I remember correctly it was broad daylight in clear visibility, a mitigating factor is the color of the sky and seas that day were very similar. The fact the F-15 held together and was able to land safely is a testament of its durability. I can't remember exactly but it sustained like 15-20 Gs for about 2-3 seconds. For a fraction of a second it pulled something like 30-40 Gs. It held together but the wing skin had crinkled (technical term j/k) because the airframe was bent so badly. Unfortunately I have no external views. It pulled so many Gs that the tape pulled off the recorder head and lost sync for a bit, so the tape misses the highest G. I think this might be the worlds record for the most Gs a manned airplane has pulled and landed safely. As far as I know it was the most Gs a piloted aircraft ever pulled and was able to return safely (though the plane was badly damaged). Famous Quote "Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous, but to an even greater than the sea; it is terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity, or neglect" You here of Murphy's Law? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stapp By riding the decelerator sled himself, Dr. John Paul Stapp demonstrated that a human can withstand at least 45 G's in the forward position, with adequate harness http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/S/Stapp.html http://www.afa.org/magazine/valor/0583valor.asp http://www.af.mil/history/person.asp?dec=&pid=123006472 46G "Sonic Wind" sled ride http://www.ejectionsite.com/stapp.htm Skydivers have survived after falling without a parachute or a failed parachute (streamer). How the Body Works : The Colorful Right Hemisphere How the Body Works The Colorful Right Hemisphere Visio-spatial skills and musical talent are the two outstanding nonverbal abilities regulated and controlled by the right hemisphere. This illustration shows the elements of right hemisphere abilities blended together to produce a colorful visual representation of its features. The right hemisphere also conceives the world in different dimensions when compared to its left hemisphere partner. The right brain interprets the world in total rather than in the logical stages characteristic of the left hemisphere, which is primarily concerned with verbal skills. PlayReal: Spatial Augmented Reality Games This student project investigates the potential of projector-camera systems as components for future game consoles. The geometry and radiometry of the real environment is automatically scanned, scene elements are identified, clustered and integrated into the game logic. Virtual game figures can then be projected stereoscopically into the real environment to enable an exciting augmented reality game experience. Artefacts that are due to modulation of projected light on the real environment's surfaces are compensated in real-time to achieve a certain level of consistency. Virtual objects can interact with real objects and vice versa. When colliding with virtual objects, for instance, real objects appear to shake through a special stereoscopic effect. A pan-tilt projector-camera unit will allow using large parts of an entire room as playground for spatial augmented reality games. Spatial Sounds STRP Festival 06: Spatial Sounds (100dB at 100km/h) is an interactive audio installation by Marnix de Nijs and Edwin van der Heide. In this engine-powered installation, a speaker is mounted onto a rotating arm that is several meters long. Like a watchdog, the machine scans the surrounding space for visitors. Closer investigation would be tempting fate, with the rotating arm swinging so powerfully round. You hear the impressive sound of the mighty motor revving up, turning faster and faster. You can feel the displacement of air as the speaker whizzes past you, and you had better step back, out of reach. The machine slows down and, when the shock wears off, you start exploring the space, with your movements manipulating the sound it produces. Just don't get too close! Spatial Sounds (100dB at 100km/h) builds up a physically tangible relationship with the visitor, since it is the game of attracting and repelling between machine and visitor that determines its sound and movement. artists websites: http://www.evdh.net/spatial_sounds/index.html http://www.marnixdenijs.nl/spatial.htm Tags: spatialsounds strp eindhoven marnix de nijs marnixdenijs edwin van der heide edwinvanderheide speaker experimental |
