To use this tool, Right-click on the object then select Edit. Next choose Mapping -- Planar. Planar switches to texture coordinates which prevent distortion on flat surfaces. Planar (which means flat) mapping doesn't depend on the size of the face; it's like a projector making the screen bigger without changing the projection size. Planar texture mapping works well with flat surfaces. You may need to adjust the other options until you get what you want, most textures need to have numbers fine-tuned, in the Texture menu, for best results. ~*~tutorial~*~IMVU hair texture with GIMP :) http://avatars.imvu.com/quixotickane ~*~tutorial~*~ IMVU hair texture with GIMP this video begins with the product page of the hairstyle i was derving from: (J)DOLLY BROWN By jamie625 this hairstyle has 3 materials, i used the same texture for all 3. this is the video version of my 1st tutorial, we will see how it goes. i couldn't find a tutorial on how to do this that worked for me, so i just experimented and tried to follow what i was seeing done in photoshop. it works better in some meshes than others. let's do this.... 1. make a new image 2. fill with dark color *i used a light blue in the video 3. take a soft brush and make a line or lines across in a lighter color *in the video, i used royal blue vertical lines to make it look like streaks 4. repeat step 3 with a smaller brush using a lighter color 5. filters~ noise~scatter RGB. uncheck correlated noise and independent RGB. the slide bar should be 0.50ish. 6. filters~noise~ spread. put at max for your image size 7. filters ~blur~motion blur. angle @ 90, length @ 20 8. filters ~blur~ gaussian blur @ 1 9. sharpen to your liking ~now to add some shine~ 9. make a new layer 10. take a soft brush and use white to brush a line or lines across 11. filters~ blur~gaussian blur @ 20ish 12. set this layer to overlay. you can play with the opacity to control the sheen look if you want even more shine... 13. new layer 14. take the airbrush tool with a soft brush using white and make some lines across 15. run scatter RGB with the same settings used earlier 16. run spread with the previous settings 17. run motion blur, use the same settings as before 18. set this layer to overlay woot yer done! taa daa! remember that things look duller in the previewer, you might not see a shine until you use the hair in a chat window. and as i said earlier, this works good great with some, but not all hairstyles. here's my catalog link: http://www.imvu.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=5472863 i did all my sunny bronze hairs using this technique, with little variations here and there play around with the settings for different results. well that's it. i hope this tutorial has been helpful Smile i have this on my deviantart account as a .jpg in case any cares to download it. here's my link: http://omgitzkane.deviantart.com/ ~*~tutorial by kane~*~ http://360.yahoo.com/ckane360 * beyonce - flaws and all earn IMVU credits at metaRL.com, click the link: http://www.metarl.com/register.php?referral=quixotickane Tags: IMVU hair textures GIMP flaws and all |

Second Life Hair Texture Tutorial PLEASE WATCH MY NEWEST VIDEO. IT'S BETTER. THANKS. Here I teach Second Life users how to so the basics of hair textures. Sorry for the funny end bit of the microphone. I'll talk you through here. Once you've changed the hue/saturation you need to duplicate the layer by right clicking duplicate. Turn the bottom duplicated layer off by clicking the eye. Then using the rectangular marquee tool cut off a bottom chunk of the hair. Then using the smudge tool at a 59 splatter brush and at 80% hold shift and dragg upwards from the bottom of the hair texture and do this all the way along. NOW HOW TO DO THE ALPHA FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTRESTED.... So you need to selet the hair texture, do this by going to the menu at the top and selecting the select drop down menu, then load selection from the select menu, and make sure it says Layer 1 transparency in the box and make sure invert is UNTICKED! press okay. then hit the channels tab. make a new alpha by clicking the little button that looks like a page curling. you should have a new alpha layer called alpha 1. select alpha 1 and you should see the dotted lines from the previous selecting the hair, fill those little dotting lines with white. then go upto the RGB alpha layer tab and selet it where the eyebal goes, then click the eyeball on the alpha 1 layer so it deselects it. and lastly go back to the layers tab reate a new layer clicking the page curling button and fill it black. then drag this black layer underneath your hair layer. I suggest saving this file as a .tga (targa) or if you plan to edit this file later on save it as the default file save.. a photoshop PSD file, then you can open it later on and edit it for more colors ! Texture Design Using Morphable Textures We present a system for designing novel textures in the space of textures induced by an input database. We capture the structure of the induced space by a simplicial complex where vertices of the simplices represent input textures. A user can generate new textures by interpolating within individual simplices. We propose a morphable interpolation for textures, which also defines a metric used to build the simplicial complex. To guarantee sharpness in interpolated textures, we enforce histograms of high-frequency content using a novel method for histogram interpolation. We allow users to continuously navigate in the simplicial complex and design new textures using a simple and efficient user interface.
