Breastfeeding Toddlers Babies breastfeed, and if they are very lucky, in the West, they are allowed to follow their biological norm and breastfeed into toddlerhood. There is no 'natural' time to fully wean an infant, and thus refuse it your breast. All infants give up breastfeeding themselves, when they have finished with it, and move on. This usually occurs sometime between their 3rd and 4th birthday, but many leave the breast earlier, some leave the breast later. http://www.kathydettwyler.org/detwean.html Culture, and how we live our lives, usually interferes with the infant's decision, and imposes a 'set' time on the activity. This can be from as early as 6 weeks! Jesus, as part of his own culture, was probably breastfeeding until he was 3 years old, and then there would have been a weaning party, for everyone in the community to celebrate his growing into another phase of his life. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/2/t026400.asp 3 years is a common 'set time' for many cultures, as it appears to give the child as much support and comfort and brain building milk as it needs, and then returns the mother to fertility for another child once those needs have been met. The Koran asks that every mother allow their baby to breastfeed for at least 2 years. The West (where sexual ownership of the female's body has deemed that breasts are first and foremost sexual, as opposed to how you feed babies) is the most severe in repressing breastfeeding toddlers. Such is the confusion and anxiety about breasts, there are ingrained attitudes that even newborn babies breastfeeding is actually an imposition on the sexual nature of the breast! Some areas of countries such as the USA, demands that male babies are weaned from the breast faster than female ones, as the sexual nature of the breast somehow threatens the father, the mother, and the baby. This flies in the face of all the scientific, and social, research into the issue. Time and again, the benefits of normal term nursing - allowing the baby to continue to breastfeed as it chooses to - are shown in study after study. With a safe and secure, comforting and loving physical environment from which to view the painful and confusing world that is toddlerhood, the toddler still having access to the breast is more secure, more resilient, more confident and more independent than those forcibly weaned before their time. And still benefittng greatly from the unique nutrition that builds their brains and bones and blood perfectly. http://www.kellymom.com/bf/bfextended/index.html Mothers benefit too, with protection from breast cancer etc, lost to the mother who has weaned, increasing her risk of such illness. Oxytocin from the breastfeeding biology, floods both mother and child with contentment, and helps both overcome the stresses of toddlerhood. Therefore, the children least likely to benefit from the astounding brain building abilities of human milk, and the ones most in need of developing emotional resilience, are the 'most privileged' on the face of the planet. The cultures with so much, often give their infants too little. The joy you can see on this 2 year old's face, says it all, really. Her world is overflowing with the milk of human kindness. http://www.wiessinger.baka.com/bfing/older/mouths.html The World Health Organisation recommends that all babies are allowed to receive only breastmilk for the first six months of their lives, and then to be allowed to breastfeed for a minimum of two years. Thereafter, breastfeeding should continue for as long as mother and child mutually desire. http://www.who.int/child-adolescent-health/NUTRITION/global_strategy.htm The contradictions and confusions in the West are so extreme, that a mother allowing her toddler to breastfeed, can be viewed as abnormal, when she lives in a culture that uses images of breasts, to sell cars. Go figure. http://one-of-those-women.blogspot.com/2008/01/normal-nursing-donovandettwyler-article.html Few mothers start their journey with their breastfeeding babies, with the intent to keep going past 2 years of age. Most fall into just putting off the decision on giving up on something so worthwhile, and so important to their child. Pressure from others can be unbearable and some mothers wean to stop the criticism... http://www.kellymom.com/bf/criticism.html http://touchinglynaive.wordpress.com/2007/11/14/extended-breastfeeding/ ... but mostly, the attitude normal term nursing mothers take is.. if it ain't broke, it don't need fixed. http://www.babble.com/content/articles/columns/extremeparenting/001/ You can post photos of your own breastfeeding toddler, at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21420487704 and there is a wonderful compilation video of breastfeeding children on: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=942FRjAJhxU Tags: breastfeeding positions latch toddler breastfeed |

Three Little Lovely Toddlers (The Sims 2) One Day, three little toddlers lives with their parents and played happily. At the living room, Frances plays with the xylophone. As their parents watches television, toddlers crawl about, then Frances plays with a bear and Nala plays with the xylophone. That night, babies are in their cribs in the nursery, sucking hands and twiddling legs. The Next day, Nikky steals the bottole from Frances. Frances throws a tantrum. Later, the babies play. Nala plays with the xylophone while Frances plays with the blocks. Nikky plays with a bear. Then Mummy feeds Frances. She fed her then she lifts Frances out of the feeding chair. Nala drinks a bottle which is not very fresh and she vomited. Then their parents put babies to bed. That night, there is no one to look after, so babies soiled their diapers, and Frances & Nala can't get out of cribs and cried. Nikky throw tantrum in the bathroom. Then the Social Worker came and take them away and then taken into care. (This video originally uploaded on August 17, 2007) Tags: TheSims2 VeronavilleFilms Sims2toddler |

Toddlers who dislike spicy food 'racist' http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/education/2261307/Toddlers-who-dislike-spicy-food-racist,-say-report.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/education/2261307/Toddlers-who-dislike-spicy-food-racist,-say-report.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/education/2261307/Toddlers-who-dislike-spicy-food-racist,-say-report.html Toddlers who turn their noses up at spicy food from overseas could be branded racists by a Government-sponsored agency. The National Children's Bureau, which receives £12 million a year, mainly from Government funded organisations, has issued guidance to play leaders and nursery teachers advising them to be alert for racist incidents among youngsters in their care. This could include a child of as young as three who says "yuk" in response to being served unfamiliar foreign food. The guidance by the NCB is designed to draw attention to potentially-racist attitudes in youngsters from a young age. It alerts playgroup leaders that even babies can not be ignored in the drive to root out prejudice as they can "recognise different people in their lives". The 366-page guide for staff in charge of pre-school children, called Young Children and Racial Justice, warns: "Racist incidents among children in early years settings tend to be around name-calling, casual thoughtless comments and peer group relationships." It advises nursery teachers to be on the alert for childish abuse such as: "blackie", "Pakis", "those people" or "they smell". The guide goes on to warn that children might also "react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk'". Staff are told: "No racist incident should be ignored. When there is a clear racist incident, it is necessary to be specific in condemning the action." Warning that failing to pick children up on their racist attitudes could instil prejudice, the NCB adds that if children "reveal negative attitudes, the lack of censure may indicate to the child that there is nothing unacceptable about such attitudes". Nurseries are encouraged to report as many incidents as possible to their local council. The guide added: "Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case." Lucky Ladybug by Billy And Lillie - toddlers at library 2006 This video was taken December 12, 2006 during Storytime on Tuesday night at the Milpitas, California library. All the children were working on singing this song for a couple of months, and we sang this song all the time between stories during Storytime. The children in this video are all between 2 and 8 years old. This song is complete with handclapping (which the kids are really taken with). Lucky Ladybug was a song sang by the duo Billy and Lillie in fall 1958. Billy and Lillie also had another song called "La Dee Dah" in 1958 that reached # 9. When it (La Dee Dah) became a big hit, DJ Dick Clark (of American Bandstand fame) told the writers to think up something similar. So they came up with Lucky Ladybug, which is sort of a calypso song. Lucky Ladybug reached # 14 on Billboard top 100 in January 1959. Billy Ford (the male part of the duo) died in 1984 at age 59. Lillie Bryant Howard (the female vocalist in the duo) is still alive and well, and is currently 67 years old and lives in the lower Hudson Valley in New York and still sings. Lucky Ladybug was released on Swan Records # 4020 in 1959. It happened that Bernie Lowe and also Kal Mann who wrote "Butterfly" which was sung by Charlie Gracie and also Andy Williams as well as "Wild One" sung by Bobby Rydell, owned Swan Records. Swan records had among other artists, Mr. Freddy "Boom Boom" Cannon (who sang "Tallahassee Lassie" as well as "Palisades Park"), and also the Beatles (the record label released the first Beatles song in America), "She Loves You" in 1963. Yeah, yeah, and yeah!! Both La Dee Dah and Lucky Ladybug were written by Bob Crewe and Frank C. Slay. Bob Crewe would later produce the Four Seasons, many of their songs in fact, including "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Sherry", and "Rag Doll". Frank C. Slay would later produce, among other things, the song "Incense and Peppermints" by the Strawberry Alarm Clock which was a BIG hit in 1967, with the hippies and flower power generation. Since no one has posted anything regarding Billy and Lillie except for one cassette recording of "La Dee Dah", I felt that this would be a great post. Thanks and enjoy the song!! ---- NOTE: in the video, me and my friend Lauren (who is a children's librarian) are in front. Sims 2 - Twin Toddlers Dance to Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy PLEASE READ THE NOTE AT THE BOTTOM FOR ALL THOSE WHO ASKED WHY THESE TWINS DIED The title says it all, these cute little identical twin toddler girls dance to Dance Dance by Fall Out Boy It took me like three tries to get it right because their big sister kept gettin in the way, and I am sure you can hear her in the backround towards the begining complaining about being tired or somthin.. Note: Ok I have been asked this TOO many times, the reason the twins died was because the family was too big and when I played that family the game ran really really slow, so I had to get rid of some of the people in the family, and unfortunatly as sad as it made me, the twins were the ones who had to go. Edit: Ok rant time. Somone commented on this video calling me a murderer. Just because I killed these two (For a good reason at that) doesn't make me a murderer..it's just a fucking game..get over it! Edit: Wow so many views!! @_@ Thanks so much! *hugs the viewers* Tags: Fall Out Boy Dance Sims (2) |
