Tonga bring back the biff! Taken from England Vs Tongas game in the Final of the 2006 Federation Shield Final. There was an earlier fight, but not much could be seen, so here is the 'final' fight in a match that looked more like a bar room brawl than a League game. I must say though, while the display from the Tongans can only be described as disgraceful, i'm more disgusted and upset with how the English boys handled the situation... Was a pathetic reaction to what was happening, and i know the GB team would of dealt with the situation better. Whales - Tonga November 2007 For the first time in thirty years, the Japanese will begin hunting Humpback whales again this month. But it's thousands of miles away in Tonga that the ripple effects of this will be keenly felt. Tonga is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with humpback whales. It's estimated that every whale contributes $1 million to the local economy. But now that Japan has decided to resume hunting, locals are worried 'their whales' will be the ones killed. "We do not want the Japanese to come and take our whales". But there are other threats to the whale swimming industry. Some doctors want to resume the killing of humpbacks for local consumption as an alternative to fatty, imported food. Subduction at Tonga This is a 3D visualization of the Tonga subduction zone in the South Pacific. The subducting oceanic crust is blue and earthquakes are colored cubes. The red pyramid marks the epicenter of a magnitude 8.0 earthquake that happened on May 3 2006. The Tonga subduction zone is the most seismically active region on Earth. The structure of the subsurface was created by analyzing the sounds that earthquakes make, this is the science of seismic tomography. The same principal is used in ultrasound imaging, just that the wavelength of the sound waves is much longer in earthquakes 5 to 15 Hz compared with 200,000 Hz in ultrasound imaging. The 3D visualization was created by the SIO Visualization Center at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Swimming With Humpback Whales - Vava'u Tonga Our first swim with mother and calf humpback whales off Vava'u Tonga 11 October 2007. We were horrified to hear that the Japanese were going to resume the hunt for the magnificent humpback this season but we've learned, as of 23 Dec 2007, that due to international pressure they won't be hunting humpbacks this year. Minke whales and the endangered fin whales are still on the "menu" though. With a bit of luck the Japanese may be pressured into the complete cessation of whaling soon. Tonga beats the Wallabies 1973 An unknown Tongan Rugby Union Team toured Australia in 1973 to play two tests with the Wallabies of Australia. The first test, Tonga lost but it was a close score. The second test in Ballymore stadium in Brisbane Queensland proved otherwise. Tonga won the match 16-11 and it went down as one of Australia's worse loss in Rugby history to a small minnow nation like Tonga.
