Vdekja e dhunshme e tre fëmijëve shqiptarë në veri Mitrovicë 20 veta perjetuan vdekje te dhunshme, me qindra te tjere u plagosen ose lenduan 17 marsi është më shumë se datë e pazakontë. 17 marsi është emërtim për ngjarje tragjike por edhe për fenomen politik. Ngjarje tragjike, sepse si rezultat i zhvillimeve të vetëm dy ditëve, 20 veta përjetuan vdekje të dhunshme, me qindra të tjerë u plagosën ose lënduan, disa mijëra njerëz u detyruan t'i braktisin shtëpitë e veta dhe shumë shtëpi banimi e objekte fetare u dogjën ose dëmtuan. Fenomen politik, sepse përmendja e këtyre humbjeve dhe dëmeve, u etablua me renditje të kundërt: së pari ato materiale e pastaj njerëzore. Dhe, mbase edhe fenomen postmodern, sepse të gjitha këto iu nënshtruan tezës për rrënimin e imazhit të Kosovës. Këtu edhe qëndron shpjegimi pse askush në Kosovë nuk e di se kush është Alimuhamet Murseli, djaloshi 17 vjeçar të cilin me 17 mars 2004, në qytetin e Ferizajit e shtypi tanksi i KFOR-it grek. 17 marsi kurrsesi nuk e solli Kosovën në krizë. Me 17 mars 2004 shpërtheu kriza. U zbulua brutalisht Kosova, para vetes dhe para botës. Të gjitha proceset për disa vite me rradhë ishin negative. Kjo reflektohej në standardin e jetesës së njerëzve që pandërprerë degradohej. Paqja në Kosovë, gjatë pesë viteve të fundit, në rradhë të parë, mbahej duke iu falenderuar premtimeve të politikanëve dhe shpresave të banorëve. Të dyja këto ishin tepër larg realitetit dhe arsyes. Shpresat, që më parë mund të quhen iluzione, ushqeheshin edhe nga tri zëvendësime psikologjike themelore të cilat ngërtheheshin në retorikën e diskursit politik dhe në investimin e deritashëm të UNMIK-ut: 1)Zëvendësimi i të ardhmes së afërt e të paqartë me atë të largët e të sigurtë: "mos mendoni për pavarësinë dhe vitin 2004, 2005, por mendoni për Bashkimin Evropian dhe vitin 2015, 2020."; 2)Zëvendësimi i mungesës absolute të suksesit drejt së ardhmes me përparimin nga e kaluara, duke e përkujtuar atë me ngulm, gjë që madje ka edhe një nënton kërcënues; dhe 3)Zëvendësimi i institucioneve dhe pushtetit real vendor me ato që vetëm quhen të tilla dhe të cilat ekzistencën e tyre ua detyrojnë kryesisht mediave. Ato ekzistojnë për të mos qenë, andaj edhe vetëdijësimi në Kosovë s'është tjetër veçse humbje e iluzioneve. Ngjarjet tragjike të 17 dhe 18 marsit 2004 ishin shansë për UNMIK-un dhe tërë strukturën ndërkombëtare në Kosovë për ta rimenduar veten. Assesi nuk ngjau kjo. Menjëherë theksohej nevoja për kthim në normalitet, për rivendosje të paqes. Thuajse Kosova lulëzonte para 17 marsit. Nevojitet pambarim shumë naivitet për ta quajtur Kosovën e para marsit të vitit 2004 një vend normal. Ky shpërthim natyrisht se nuk është i ndashëm nga davaritja e iluzioneve që bëhej e vazhdon të bëhet për çdo ditë në Kosovë përmes pasojave të egra të cilat shembin standardin edhe ashtu të mjerueshëm të jetesës së njerëzve. Dhe në vend se të brengoseshin për standardin e njerëzve atyre u vihen standarde (para statusit) nga pushteti! UNMIK-u sërish impononte standarde dhe s'çante kokën për standardin e jetesës së banorëve të Kosovës. Në të vërtetë, askush s'kishte më shumë nevojë për standarde sesa vetë ai. 17 marsi shumë shpejt nuk mbeti vetëm e kaluar, vetëm e shkuar por u bë edhe e ardhshme kërcënuese. Për dy arsye, Serbia sigurisht se është e interesuar që të destabilizohet Kosova: e para, që të ngjajë konflikti që ia krijon hapsirën për ndarjen e Kosovës; e dyta, që të mundet të thotë se Kosova s'e qeveris dot veten dhe s'ka kapacitet për të qenë shtet. Mirëpo, dëmi i madh që është bërë është nxitja se çdo protestë duhet të zgjojë te banorët e Kosovës imazhet e shkatërrimeve gjatë 17 e 18 marsit 2004. Kjo është e gabueshme dhe e padrejtë. Shkatërrimet e panevojshme i shkaktoi pikërisht durimi i gjatë, pritja e gjatë, heshtja e gjatë. Problemet grumbulloheshin dhe rriteshin. Mbytja e tre fëmijëve në lum në fshatin Çabër ishte veçse edhe një pikë më shumë në kupën e mbushur përplot, padyshim posaçërisht e ndjeshme dhe e rëndë për nga natyra. Protestuesit më 17 dhe 18 mars 2004 nuk kishin kërkesa. Ata nuk kërkuan që statusi i Kosovës të zgjidhej. Pse menjëherë më pas, flitej aq shumë nga qarqe të ndryshme ndërkombëtare për status final? Shumë thjesht, ishte ajo që populli e quan miza nën kapuç. Ndaj Kosovës po bëhej padrejtësi e madhe. Ajo kishte ndërruar formë dhe ishte bërë pengesë për gjithçka; e linte Kosovën pa subjektivitet, e linte peng gjersa ajo po fundosej. Monopoli i pushtetit, s'prodhon paqe, stabilitet e siguri. Dhe, fundja, siguri të çkafit?! Të mjerimit?! Që situata në Kosovë të qetësohet dhe shtensionohet, janë të nevojshme kurse e premisa të reja për Kosovën që nënkuptojnë multietnicitetin përmes deenklavizimit dhe të drejtave elementare njerëzore si koncept bazë, dhe sistem politik dhe institucional tjetër, i cili është në përputhje me vullnetin e qytetarëve. Kushtet që e kanë sjellur 17 marsin ekzistojnë edhe më tutje.
