Twickenham to Teddington by trolleybus Twickenham to Teddington by trolleybus on the first day of operation May 16th 1931. --------------------------------------- There are chunks of the journey missing but I have put what film clips there are into the right order. Note the trams still in service. The driver had to drive these trams from a position completely open to the elements. Along with the trolleybus a new tram was also entering service with a completely enclosed cab..This was the "Feltham" type tram. The half cab trolleybus design, seen in the video, was soon to be superseded by the well known flat fronted design. The half cab trolleybuses known as "Diddlers" were retired in 1948. The last London trolleybus ran in May 1962 along the route shown in the video. Today the London bus route 281 follows the same route. Check out these links... Trolleybus burnout A trolleybus having troubles and slipping due to wet snow mud on a light grade. But this is quite unexpected behavior for usual trolleybus because there are many buses with automatic transmission, as well as ones with manual gearbox, including articulated with mid or tail driving axle, all of them climbing the same grade without such hard wheelslip. Hence, the road surface isn't really so slippery to completely prevent climbing. ER100 trolleybus & PR100 motorbus running at Sandtoft Marseille Renault trolleybus no. 202 operating at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft, UK. This trolleybus was the first ER100 built by Renault after taking over the design from Berliet. The trolleybus was donated in 2006 after being withdrawn in 2004 when the Marseille system closed. She is operational, and was generally restored in 2006/7. Spare parts from St.Etienne's scrapped ER100's were used in 2007 to achieve full operation, and 202 was launched back into service at Sandtoft at the St.Leger Rally on October 14th, although this video was shot before the work was completed. The PR100 motorbus is one of only five built RHD for the UK in 1988. All others have been scrapped, so this is the last one of its kind on this continent. Trolleybus in Riga Latvia Riga, the capital of Latvia, owns an extensive trolleybus network. Togerther with city's trams, trolleybuses play a very important role in city residents' everyday commute. This video was made with particular interest in the mutiple-unit trolleybus that is made up of two rigid trolleybuses coupled together, similar to to a road vehicle pulling a trailer - except that here both vehicles were powered. The coupling between them worked by means of a drawbar which was connected to the steering arm of the rear bus - so that it just followed the driving one. Derby Trolley Bus footage from the late 1960s I have been given a rare film that shows the last of the Trolley buses around the city of Derby, Derbyshire. I would like to hear from people if they have seen this footage before as it looks like there should be more footage than this. Even though the film is about the Trolley buses I I am more interested in the background, trying to work out the locations. I have watched it several times now and find it facinating. The Last Day of Shanghai Trolleybus R21 January 28, 2005 is a cold and sadly day. On that day forward, Shanghai lost her traditional trolley bus Route 21. This trolley bus line was then updated into an ordinary omnibus line just because there will be no trolley wire at all on the refaced Sichuan Road in Hongkou Area, while the whole trolley bus line has more than 11KM long through other areas in Shanghai.
